Beyonce Talks About Her Marriage to Jay-Z

Beyonce Knowles put out two singles yesterday gearing up for her Nov. 18 album release - but even more exciting is that she's finally talking about her not-so-secret wedding to Jay-Z. The couple has always kept extremely private, but in the November issue of Essence, Beyonce opens up just a little. Here are highlights:

On getting married: "We've been together a long time. We always knew it would happen. What Jay and I have is real. It's not about interviews or getting the right photo op. It's real."
On not wanting an engagement ring: "People put too much emphasis on that. It's just material, and it's just silly to me."
On the small ceremony: "[I'm not a] traditional woman. It's been my day so many days already."
On her legacy: "I want to be acknowledged as a woman in a very talented group with great harmonies and great songs that made history and changed the culture of women, not only in America but all over the world. [A woman] who could sing a cappella and write her own songs and produce her own songs."

While an engagement diamond might have been unnecessary, have you seen the wedding ring she's wearing these days? Underneath that, however, is the meaningful matching IV tattoos, which represent their birthdays and wedding day. While Jay-Z hinted at starting a family, sounds like her new album is the focus for now.

Halle and Taraji Are Ladies Who Lunch

Halle Berry met up with Academy Award nominee Taraji P. Henson yesterday afternoon for ESSENCE magazine's Black Women in Hollywood luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel. There's extra cause for celebration this year, as it's only the second time in Oscars history that two black women, Taraji and Viola Davis, are nominated in the category of Best Supporting Actress. As someone with her own statue at home, Halle probably has a great deal of guidance to offer first-timer Taraji - starting with how to pick a memorable gown.

Halle and Gabriel Are More Married Than Paper

Halle Berry looked radiant on her way out of Mr. Chow with Gabriel Aubry last night. Halle recently talked to Essence magazine about how great things are these days and her love for her daughter, saying, "I thought I knew love before, but I've never felt anything like this." And about Aubrey, "I feel more married now than I did in any of my actual marriages. We live the truth of that and that's more important than a piece of paper." It's the first Valentine's Day as a family of three with Nahla for Halle and Gabriel who seem as in love as any newlyweds around.

Janet's Met Her Match

Janet talks to Essence about her wonderful man Jermaine Dupri. The two seem to be very in love. She can't seem to stop talking about her lover however, hearing about their sex life was a little too much for me to hear. Here's more:

JANET Jackson confesses she enjoyed sex more than her lovers did - until she met Jermaine Dupri. "I feel like I finally met my match," she tells Essence magazine. "In relationships it was always the guy telling me, 'OK, hold on, wait a minute.' I'd ask my girlfriends, 'Aren't we supposed to be the ones who say, 'Wait, not tonight, I have a headache'? This happened through two [marriages] for me. I thought something's not right here. But with Jermaine I don't have to say anything; he knows I'm ready. Any time, any place."

Angie and Mariane Open Up Their Mighty Hearts

As one of Hollywood's most sought-after actresses, Angelina definitely has the power to pick and choose the projects she feels most strongly about. Angie chose A Mighty Heart years after meeting and befriending Mariane Pearl, the movie's protagonist. In this month's issue of Glamour, Angie and Mariane talk about the movie, their friendship, and their deep admiration for each other. Here are highlights:

On how they met:
MARIANE PEARL: One day a few years ago, I was alone in New York with Adam, still having a rough time [after Danny’s death]. I read an interview with Angie in a magazine, about her and Maddox and her life as a single mom. And I thought, this woman could be my friend…. I’d never experienced anything like that before in my life. It was something in her tone, in the answers that she gave. I felt also that Maddox and Adam [then both about three] could be good friends. So I sent her a note saying, do you want to have a playdate? We cooked pasta; it was actually good. And then we started talking about changing the world…

Angelina Jolie: …and about all the things we were passionate about. Her instincts were right-we did have so much in common. And all the kids are great friends now. Zahara is madly in love with Adam.

On playing Mariane in A Mighty Heart:
AJ: I was so nervous! I mean, it’s like you’re in a roomful of your closest friends and somebody says, “Why don’t you get up and imitate the friend to your left?” Nobody would want to do that, ever!…. Much more than how Mariane looks or acts, I wanted to express her essence. I’ve come to respect her so much as a hard-working person, a serious journalist, a great mom and an emotional, real woman, and I want the audience to connect with her the way I feel she deserves to be connected with. And that was hard, because I had to express the worst time in her life and [in the scene where Mariane is told of Danny’s death] the moment when she received the worst information of her life. It became the worst acting day of my life-and really, the hardest thing I’ve ever done.
