Martin Scorsese Wins Top DGA Honor

Things are looking pretty good for Martin Scorsese at the Academy Awards this year. Despite directing classics like Taxi Driver and Goodfellas, Martin has yet to win an Oscar. Over the weekend, however, Martin was chosen as filmmaker of the year at the Directors Guild Awards for The Departed. The DGA's are a very good indicator of who will win the Oscar for best director and many believe that Scorsese is long overdue for his win. Martin was very modest during his acceptance speech, saying that he didn't even know the film was doing well until the studio called with the box office numbers. Its turned out to be his best commercial hit to date.

Other winners were Richard Shepard for the pilot of Ugly Betty and John Cassar for 24. Many celebs like Jennifer and America came out to support the men and women who make it all happen. Heather Mills McCartney's divorce is turning bad quickly. On Monday police were called to Paul's London home where Heather's security guard was trying to break in. The locks on the home had been changed, but Heather just laughed off the incident - Reuters
Hugh Hefner is denying reports that he had a mini-stroke. This rumor came out after he left his lingerie party early on Saturday night, but Hugh says this was simply because his number one girlfriend was sick with a cold. Hefs still got it going on - AP

ABC's new fall schedule

Looks like the Bachelor is back for another season - I wonder who the big star will be this time? Hopefully they won't have a three-hour finale - I am so over that.

Overall, there are 5 new comedies, 6 new dramas and one "alternative" what ever that is. Bad call to ABC for moving Alias to Thursday at 8. It finally does well this year and now they move it - bad move ABC. As reported Geena Davis will be the President, Freddie Prize Jr is looking for love, and Heather Graham stars in Emily's Reasons Why Not, about a young hot single author. We can expect this to be another sex in the city knockoff that is on before Jake in Progress - sounds like a perfect match. ABC also has a midseason replacement called Crumbs starring Fred Savage.

ABC wants some laughs

Now that Lost, Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy have saved the network, ABC is working on getting some laughs. The good news is Jake in Progress has been renewed. Also expected to be announced is the Geena Davis pilot called Commander-in-Chief, where she will play the President. Reuters also announced that comedies most likely to be picked up for the fall are, The Freddie Prinze Jr pilot, a Fred Savage show and a Heather Graham comedy. More to come from ABC tomorrow when they announce their line-up.

This year the TV world is recreating the TV star. Instead of trying to take movie stars and put them on the small screen, the networks have decide to take the talented TV stars of years past and give them a second (or third) chance. Look out for Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Fred Savage, Jane Curtain and even Don Johnson to possibly return this fall. Note: Don is working with the Jerry Bruckheimer whose past TV success stories include Amazing Race and the CSI series.
