Jessica Is Still Trying to Prove She's More Than a Pretty Face

Jessica Biel got sexy loosening up her buttons for the June/July issue of Gotham magazine. Most of you are tired of hearing her talk about how hard it is to be beautiful, but it looks like working it for the cameras came easily to her for the photo shoot. In the article she has more to say about being a sex symbol, living in NYC, and her latest movie role. Here are highlights:

On NYC: "I really like just wandering around, finding a shop, sitting down, having a coffee, reading something, getting lost, grabbing a cab. That’s so fun."
On her sex symbol status: "I don’t really think about those things and think, Oooh, yay-I’ve made a mark, all right. But balancing the idea of being very sexy and then also being really attainable, kind of like a girl-next-door quality, is I think really important. To be able to bounce back and forth. [Because sometimes] the interesting characters are dark, conflicted…tortured souls; those are the characters I’m most interested in playing."
On her role in Easy Virtue: "I thought she was pretty amazing. She’s so effortlessly witty and sarcastic and fantastic and glamorous and tough-all the characteristics that I want to be as an actual woman. And she’s cool as a cucumber…but at the same time extremely vulnerable, and a real person who is hurt by these experiences. She’s not just a stone."

Gwyneth Paltrow Shares Her Shaping Up Secrets

Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna have long been fans of their beloved personal trainer, Tracy Anderson, and in this month's Gotham Magazine Gwyneth sat down to chat all about her two-hour-a-day fitness regime. She also opened up about a few more personal things, like her family, hair, and childhood. Here's more:

On sharing Tracy with Madonna: "The first time I did her workout, I knew Madonna would flip for it because it’s so hard and so effective. Right now, if Madonna or I have a project and we’re not in the same city, she’ll work with the one who’s traveling. When I did Iron Man she was with me in California. Now she’s on tour with Madonna, so I have another trainer from her studio here with me."
On working less now that she has kids: "I haven’t starred in a film since my kids were born, and I don’t think I will. I’ll never get these days back-they’re so delicious, and precious, and hilarious, I don’t want to miss them."
On chopping off her hair: "I’d had it long for so long, I think I’d made it like a talisman. I kept thinking about all the life I’d experienced while the hair was growing-I’d look at the ends and think, I had this hair when my dad was alive, and when I was pregnant with my daughter…. Then one day I was doing a Vogue shoot with Orlando Pita and I said, 'That’s it, I can’t take it anymore.' I wanted a fresh start, so he just chopped it off. And now I love it."

On summering at her house in the Hamptons: "I work really hard there-it’s like running an inn, in a way. We have a lot of guests, which is fantastic, but sometimes I feel so tired. At the end of the summer I got pneumonia. I think I just overextended myself."
On what she loved about growing up in NYC: "Underage smoking on stoops of brownstones, going to museums, the seasons, and how great a school Spence was - how well they prepared me for life."
On having another baby: "In theory, I’d love to. But it’s really hard for me when I’m pregnant - I’m sick as a dog for months. Sometimes I think, 'Oh my God, I want another one right now, I’ll sustain any amount of vomiting or whatever.' And then sometimes I think, Gosh, everyone’s sleeping through the night now. If it’s meant to happen, it’ll happen."

Gwyneth also said she's not doing any duets with her famous musical husband or BFF anytime soon. It's pretty obvious that Gwyneth has serious dedication to her workouts, but it seems like her family trumps all when it comes to her priorities.

Amanda Peet's Got Gotham Covered

Amanda Peet celebrated her new Gotham Magazine cover last night at the Plaza Hotel in NYC, and we were lucky enough to attend the event! The actress walked in holding hands with her longtime BFF Sarah Paulson - they go all the way back to their Jack & Jill days - looking cute and animated. Check out how to get Amanda's look here. We got a chance to chat with both of the sweet and down-to-earth women, who drank lime margaritas and mingled with the crowd during the cocktail hour. Even though Sarah commented about how sad she is that her last show with Amanda, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, was canceled, the ladies are clearly having fun as friends until they get to be costars again.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Gets Gotham

Sarah Michelle Gellar posed pretty for her black and white spread in Gotham magazine. SMG looks flawless even if the photos aren't her most exciting shoot but at least she has plenty to say. In the article, she dishes about her shoe obsession, kids, and being married to Freddie. Here are highlights:

On her many pairs of shoes: "Oh, God. Let's just say that when people look at my closet, I get the nod of shame. I love shoes. And I'm slightly vertically challenged. I need the height."
On whether or not she wants kids: "I can't help it-every day people ask me that question. I sometimes feel like I'm doing something wrong. But when the time is right, we will. I just turned 30. There's traveling I want to do. There's charity work I want to do. I'm learning to believe in myself more, and I'm realizing things that I'm capable of accomplishing. And when we do have children, my husband and I will have such a strong foundation because we've given our relationship time to grow.

Eva Owns the Night All by Herself

Eva Mendes partied it up in NYC last night to celebrate being the cover girl of Gotham Magazine's October issue. She didn't have any hot co-stars to join her this time around, but luckily Eva and her intense dress (check out those neck straps) know how to shine brightly all on their own. As it turns out, Eva told the magazine that she even had to help convince Mark Wahlberg to join the cast of We Own The Night. She said,

James [Gray] really wanted him, but Mark had a lot going on and had just had a baby and didn’t want to do it. So James and I came up with Operation Seduce Wahlberg, or ‘OSW.’ James, Joaquin, and I went after Wahlberg hard, and it worked!

We bet it wasn't too hard for Eva to charm Mark into joining the cast. As for her new film, We Own The Night wasn't Buzz's favorite, but between Eva, Joaquin and Mark, there's a little bit of eye candy for everyone.

Ashton and Demi Get Beautiful in Gotham

Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore were in NYC yesterday paying a visit to the set of The Beautiful Life. As one of the show's producers, Ashton has been busy over the last few weeks chatting about its progress at the TCAs and throwing his support behind the star, Mischa Barton. He switched into leading man mode later in the day to celebrate his cover of Gotham magazine with a few friends. This trip to the East Coast is just the latest on Ashton's packed itinerary as he multitasks and promotes Spread, which hits theaters this Friday.

Beyonce Smiles and Talks JT While Sasha Fierce Hits Stores

The only brightness in Beyonce's ensemble was her smile at last night's Gotham Magazine gala in NYC. Otherwise she kept entirely covered in a slick black dress for the evening. It's only right that she hit the town to celebrate as her new album I am . . . Sasha Fierce hit stores yesterday. At the party she revealed that she would love to perform at Barack Obama's inauguration, but earlier in the day, B did a radio interview where she talked about her hilarious appearance dancing alongside a pantless Justin Timberlake on SNL. She said, "I still can't believe he did that! He was incredible. We rehearsed it two times. He has this photographic memory. He could probably kill it if he wanted to. Not the feminine stuff, but... he's so talented and so naturally funny." Beyonce seems to have a great sense of humor and we'll have to see how she - and her famous alter ego Sasha - do with record sales on opening week.

Alec and Tina Go Gotham

Tina Fey really went all out with the sexy, while Alec Baldwin kept it a little more casual at last night's Gotham Magazine Gala in NYC. The dynamic duo share the cover of the glossy this month, and inside the pages Tina Fey talks about not being all hot. Think again, Vixen. Anyway, now that the writers' strike is officially over, I for one can't wait to come running back to TV for new episodes of 30 Rock. Seriously, if you're not watching this show you definitely should. Maybe reading some of their funny interview will help convince you. Here are highlights:

Tina on the future of 30 Rock: I think Alec being on the show bought us a lot of time. He’s such a brilliant actor and he’s not someone you get to see for free on TV. I think he absolutely bought us the whole first year. But I think that people who see the show really do like it; it’s just a question of getting people to try it out. We have the label of a “low-rated” or “poorly rated” show, but we’re doing better this year. And it’s weird, because on the same day I’ll see us referred to as “the low-rated 30 Rock” in the paper, and then I’ll read “the hit show Gossip Girl.” We rate higher than Gossip Girl, but there’s a different expectation [when a show is] on NBC as opposed to the CW.
Gotham: Have you seen Gossip Girl?
TF: No, but the children on it are very beautiful.
Tina's resolutions for 2008: Maybe an attempt at a less vulgar life. Less cursing, less bile. I sort of got into trouble last year - I went on Howard Stern and ran my mouth a little bit about Paris Hilton. [Fey called Hilton a “piece of s--” and said she “looks like a tranny,” among other things.] Not only was that not the right way for a 37-year-old woman to behave, but I went to my gynecologist for my yearly checkup shortly thereafter and she was like, “I read that thing [you said about Paris Hilton] in the paper. That was very hostile. Are you all right?” And I was like, You know what? You’re right. That was very hostile. What business is it of mine? So, starting there: being less vulgar and more . . . kind isn’t the right word for it. Perhaps more “Christian” in my dealings with people. Yeah, less vulgar. More Christian.

Alec on being the reason 30 Rock wasn't cancelled: I think it’s nice when people say that. I’ve heard people say, “Oh, the show wouldn’t be the same if you left,” because I was thinking of leaving earlier on. And that’s flattering on the one hand, but I don’t think it’s really honest - which is to say, you can’t be funny unless you have good writing. The two go hand in hand. It’s like someone writes good songs and somebody sings them well - but which is more important? I think they’re equally important. The show needed someone, oddly enough, who had this excess of authority and confidence, because everyone else is a geek or a nerd. Our counterweight to the geekiness and the nerdiness is [my character], an overbearing corporate executive.
Alec on resolutions for 2008: My resolution is to rest. I’m going to walk through the park, go to the movies, and rest. It’s been a tough year. With the strike and all the crap with my daughter, it’s taken a lot out of me. [Now it’s] time to do things that make me feel good. I want to have a pleasant, simple, easy, and enjoyable year.

Ah, "crap with my daughter." He will totally never learn to keep his mouth shut . . . I can't help it I still love him. As for Tina being nicer to Paris Hilton? I see what she means, but that was still totally hilarious.

Condensed Sugar: One More Time, It's All About Britney

Britney succeeded yet again in making more headlines than any other star with her ongoing custody battle and upcoming album. We found out that Blackout is being released earlier than planned, and we got a sneak peek at the new (official) cover. After arriving late to court on Thursday, she was awarded one supervised overnight visit a week, and to celebrate she took herself shopping. Here's what else went down:

Lindsay is still in Utah but she's got her new boyfriend Riley to keep her company in between visits from her Dad and prepping for her next role.
Pictures surfaced of Penelope Cruz and new boyfriend Javier Bardem on a hot and steamy vacation and the new couple took their love public in L.A.
Orlando Bloom was in a late night car crash, raising the question: Why don't celebrities just hire drivers?
Reese's divorce from Ryan was finalized this week, but that didn't slow Reese down. The strong Southern girl looked gorgeous at the premiere of Rendition with Jake and Meryl and went for a run.
Eva Mendes was everywhere this week, from TRL, Letterman and the cover of Gotham Magazine, to the premiere of We Own the Night with her hot co-stars Mark and Joaquin.
The Affleck brothers had a long week of promoting Gone, Baby Gone with magazine interviews and screenings, but Ben ended up back with his girls Violet and Jennifer on Thursday.

Orlando Probably Doesn't Know Who We Are

....[Drool.] Sorry, sorry. Ummm. This is awkward because I mostly just can't stop staring at Orlando. There shouldn't be much to say about Orlando Bloom in the May issue of Gotham Magazine other than yowza. There is more, however, because not only is he super cute but he gives the mag a really adorable interview. The whole thing is quite endearing, but here's my favorite part:

G: But the British paparazzi are legendary. Do you get harassed?
OB: What are you going to do? It’s part of the job.

G: Which are worse, tabloids or bloggers?
OB: What’s a blogger?

I. Am. Crushed. To be fair, he does admit that he knows of said blog websites. Soo...there's hope? Ha.
