Product Review: Spray de Mode

Truth be told, I haven't been into hairspray since the days when Firehouse and other lousy rock bands promoted the big-hair look. Truthfully, I wasn't into the music, but I wanted to fit in with the popular girls. So every morning, I'd break out Mom's curling iron, twist my bangs into a crisp claw of curls, and look like a fool despite my best efforts.

I've been scared of hair spray ever since. Recently, though, I tried Bumble and bumble's new Spray de Mode ($15–$25). The hairspray was developed over the course of multiple Fashion Weeks, with stylists offering feedback and B&b tweaking the formula. Spray de Mode promises to offer excellent hold without feeling stiff or tacky, and it does just that. What's notable is that it allows you to rework your hair multiple times, but it still holds the shape of the hair. I've been able to brush it, blow-dry it, curl it, scrunch it - you name it - and each time, it retains its shape without feeling stiff or heavy. I dare say it's good enough to erase those scary junior-high memories.

B&b has set up an extensive promo site for this spray, and while it is essentially a giant commercial, it's also an interesting one. I loved watching the videos to see how regular people were transformed into the cool coiffed models you can see in this gallery.

Luvvies Swarm The Olivier Awards

Only metres away from last night Empire Awards, were theatre's Olivier Awards, at Grosvenor House. As you can imagine there was a lot of intermingling, and you'll spot some of those familiar from the film awards posts amongst the theatre darlings. It feels like yesterday we announced the Hairspray-dominated nominees! James McAvoy's wife Anne Marie Duff looked gorgeous in peach, and newcomer Leanne Jones was beaming after her win for playing Traci Turnblad in the excellent Hairspray.

The revived musical had a great night, scooping four awards including Best New Musical, Best Actor in a Musical (Michael Ball) and Best Performance In A Supporting Role (Tracie Bennett). Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kristin Scott Thomas also won at the ceremony hosted by Richard E Grant. To see more photos as well as a full list of winners, just read more

Daniel's Acting (and Nudity) Is Theatregoers' Choice

I know I shouldn't be surprised that Daniel Radcliffe is an adult male, but I think his role as Harry Potter had solidified him in my mind as a boy wizard. What with his nudity in Equus and his new chiseled-jaw appearance, however, I'm going to have to admit that Dan is in fact a man. And this man has just won two awards at the Theatregoers' Choice ceremony, which took place at the Lyric Theatre in London yesterday.

Any Dream Will Do winner Lee Mead was at the ceremony with his luscious curls. He lost to Michael Ball in the Best Actor in a Musical category, but his show Joseph won Best Musical Revival. Kevin Spacey was also in attendance, smiling with pride at the Old Vic's victory in Best New Play, Best Ensemble and Best Supporting Actress categories. The cast of Hairspray had a lot to grin about too, with a massive seven wins carrying on the show's run of good news (11 Olivier nominations anyone?!).

The biggest smile of the night must have been on Daniel's face though, and not just because of Equus' three gongs: co-host James Corden planted a big kiss on Daniel's lips as the young actor accepted his award! Now that's show business, darling!

Hairspray Says Good Morning, or Evening, Baltimore!

As a fitting finale (hopefully) to their lengthy series of premieres, the young half of the cast of Hairspray spent Wednesday night celebrating in Baltimore, the city that inspired the original John Waters film back in 1988. The awesome Waters himself was there and looked happy to be on the red carpet in his lime green pants. Amanda, Zac, Nikki & Elijah were even gracious enough to show off some moves at the after party. Marsden, on the other hand, just continued to look dreamy. After this lengthy lead up full of fresh faced youngins (and even more fresh faced Pfeiffer), I bet at least some of you are super excited that it's finally out today! Probably sick of the red carpet formality, Zac and Nikki dressed down for a pretaped appearance on TRL this week, but Amanda was more sick of the costume changes and opted to wear the same dress to both this and the NYC premiere later that evening. What can I say, the girl loves her leather mini dress! It's funny to think that of the three of them, Amanda is the oldest at 21-years-old. Even with her blonde Barbie locks she still looks so young. We've been on Hairspray overload, but it's just about over. The movie is out tomorrow so the world can see for itself how they feel about the remake of John Waters' classic. So, anyone still excited?

Hairspray Keeps On Keepin' On

Hairspray sure does seem to be taking the world by storm, and we're even starting to catch a bit of the fever. Yesterday the cast debuted their new line of dolls at Toys"R"Us in NYC, then headed to Newark, NJ for yet another premiere and an onstage performance. The cast all looked great, but Amanda and her blonde hair especially stood out this time. This stop on the tour proved to be very special for Queen Latifah, who was proud to be sharing her movie with her home town. She said, "I feel pretty damn good. It's just nice that everybody gets to come out and enjoy it, and the kids get to see all the stars from the movie, and all the local people get to enjoy what we do."

Hairspray Party Still Going Strong

The cast of Hairspray kept the party going long after the film premiered in NYC. The star-studded cast is obviously very excited for their movie to hit the theaters this weekend, and it sounds like they couldn't be more proud of their project. The film had special meaning for its star Nikki Blonsky, who makes her debut in the movie and can't wait to spread the message behind Hairspray. She said,

"This has just been the most incredible dream come true for me. This is everything I've ever wanted and more -- just to get out there and show the world that different is great and uniqueness is beautiful, and that's what it's all about."

Hairspray is a classic and yet we're so looking forward to checking out this remake. Who doesn't get excited for a fun, feel-good musical? To hear more about Nikki's first experience in the movie industry, check out Buzz's exclusive interview here.

Hairspray Can't Stop The Beat In NYC, With Katie Holmes Surprise!

It was the LBD brigade at last night's NYC premiere of Hairspray. Michelle once again looked absolutely phenomenal. What is it about her -- lucky lucky eternally 25! It's always a treat to see the stars of the film, but Holy Katie Holmes! Yowza! She surprised the crowd just by showing up, but seeing her in that skin tight little number is what is more shocking for me. I do love seeing her with little Suri all the time, but youthful happy Katie is awesome to see, too. All the other ladies -- Amanda, Nikki, Queen -- looked outstanding as well, especially little Brittany Snow who looks a whole lot better than last week's too yellow number. Hairspray's Teen Gems Check Out Jewelry

The vibrant young stars of Hairspray checked out the movie's jewelry collection at Kitson in LA this weekend. Amanda Bynes was adorable as ever in polka dots. Elijah Kelley obviously represented the bling with his big chain, while the rest of the teens were a little more conservative with their jewelry. No big surprise that Zac was surrounded by young girls with cameras and it looks like he even left the bronzer at home this time around. Hairspray Lasts All Night Long

Queen Latifah stood out last night at the Hairspray premiere with her bold new look. Bella wants to know if you love or hate Latifah's new blonde do. I am still in shock over Michelle Pfeiffer's ageless beauty. The woman is 49 and looks A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! As for the PYT's I think Amanda Bynes looks adorable. There was a lot of competition among the young Hollywood starlets last night. Which Hairspray PYT do you think looks the most fab? Teen heart throb Zac Efron had a huge smile on his face. Could it be due to his latest movie deal, a remake of Footloose? Guess who he will play? Lots of excitement going on with this group even though the movie doesn't open up until July 20th.

Hairspray Swings Into LA

It was a mix of long time A-Listers and up-and-coming superstars at last night's LA premiere of Hairspray. Even with young blood on the red carpet, Michelle Pfeiffer stole the show! Yowza! Meanwhile, Efron still can't seem to lay off the the tanner, but it's a less dire situation than last week in London, maybe thanks to his precious girlfriend Vanessa? Kelly Preston went over the top and, sigh, John Travolta makes me long for days back when just looking at him didn't make me uncomfortable -- Face/Off anyone? As for Hairspray, I'm wondering whether the kids will be coming out to see their favorite Disney Channel stars in action on the big screen.

Hairspray Babies Hit London

Hairspray showed off its very youthful side -- Zac Efron, Amanda Bynes, Nikki Blonsky & Elijah Kelley, in case they're unfamiliar faces-- at their London premiere yesterday while the veteran cast members like Walken and Travolta stayed home. Looks like heartthrob Zac went a little heavy on the bronzer -- like, whoa. Meanwhile, Amanda looked great in her Kate Moss for Topshop dress. SMG looks like she's still enjoying her time in London; thankfully this time she was joined by cute Freddie Prinze Jr (who probably gave Zac a little glimpse into his future). Not sure if you're ready to see Jon Waters' awesome movie remade? This little clip piqued my curiousity, what about yours?

John Gets Back to his Roots with Hairspray

Last night, the whole Hairspray cast was on hand to show off their film at at ShoWest in Las Vegas. John Travolta, a seriously hot Michelle Pfeiffer, Brittany Snow and newcomer Nicole Blonsky hammed it up on the red carpet in celebration of the remake of John Waters' 1998 classic cult film (and recent Broadway hit). In the movie, Travolta gets back to his musical roots, something he hasn't done for 30 years (the dancing in Pulp Fiction not withstanding), but this role is a far cry from his Saturday Night Fever Days. In case you missed it, John had to gear up in a fat suit and drag for this role. Sounds like a perfectly campy John Waters remake!
