Hilary Duff Says Labor and Delivery Were "Very Easy!"

While most birth stories are pages long, fraught with tales of pain and worry, Hilary Duff can sum up giving birth to son Luca in just two little, entirely enviable, words: "Very easy."

Speaking of the "amazing ride" she’s experienced becoming a mother, Hilary Duff said recently of giving birth, "It was very easy. I went into labor at about one in the morning and I very calmly had my bags packed and woke my husband up after about three hours of walking up and down my hallway. Then I'm like, 'Okay, it's time to go, let's go now.' We got in the car and drove to the hospital and that was it."

Hello Mabel Ray Willis! Bruce Willis and Emma Heming welcomed baby Mabel back on April 1, and the couple just shared the first picture of the precious tot via Emma's Twitter account. Hilary Duff's been one busy mama since welcoming son Luca Cruz to the world 5 weeks ago. The new mama's been sharing family photos with her fans, trying to return to her prepregnancy workouts, and getting back into her daily routine. Now Hilary's about to become even busier as she joins Johnson's Baby and Save the Children for the launch of Johnson's Baby CARES, a new initiative to support the basic needs of families during natural disasters. The actress and recording star took some time to answer our questions about the campaign, as well as her initial thoughts on new motherhood.

LilSugar: What's been the most surprising thing about motherhood so far?
Hilary Duff: How much I fell in love with Luca from the moment I saw him; it's so cool to see your child changing every day.

LilSugar: And the most challenging?
HD: Getting Luca on a schedule that works for both of us, it was tough at first, but he is getting better every day.

LilSugar: Who does lil Luca look like?
HD: A lot like me when I was a baby, but he has his daddy's nose!

LilSugar: How did you come up with Luca's name?
HD: Mike [Comrie, Hilary's husband of a year and a half] and I were just bouncing names off each other and Luca just stuck. We both knew when we heard it - it was unique, but not crazy.

LilSugar: Have you and Mike gone out on a postbaby date yet?
HD: Yes, we've had a few dates since Luca's arrival. At first it was nerve-racking, but the second date went a lot better. It's important for Mom and Dad to have time together.

Hilary Duff's son Luca is the center of attention in a new picture she posted on Twitter. The little guy entered the world three weeks ago on March 20, and last week, we saw the first pictures of Luca Cruz Comrie. Hilary has been spending lots of time with her son, but also stepped out not long after his arrival to visit her salon and even the gym. She's shared all sorts of sweet sentiments about motherhood. Last week, she mused, "No better feeling that a peaceful baby sleeping on your chest. . . wonder what he's dreaming about?" The love continued yesterday when Hilary tweeted, "Almost home to feed my little bambino! Nice to get away for an hour to do something good for myself, but I miss his little face when I'm gone."

Hilary spent 20 minutes on the elliptical last week and also went to a gym class. On Tuesday, Hilary released the first picture of baby Luca and then followed it up by tweeting another snap and writing, "Oh no! The flood gates have opened! Proud mamma on the loose! I can't help myself."

Hilary Duff shared the first picture of Luca Cruz Comrie today! She gave birth to the baby boy just two weeks ago, and expressed her excitement over his arrival on Twitter. Hilary also showed off a snap of Luca's little feet yesterday, and this afternoon she gave her fans another sweet peek at her son with Mike Comrie.

Hilary is already getting back to working out after welcoming her first child. On Saturday, she tweeted, "20 minutes on the elliptical seems like an eternity!!!" and yesterday added, "Did a little Pilates today. Felt so good to stretch! Little man had a visit with grandma and did so well! I'm lucky to have my fam so close."

New Mom Hilary Duff Hits the Gym 1.5 Weeks After Giving Birth

Hilary Duff gave birth to Luca Cruz less than two weeks ago, but is already exercising to get her prepregnancy body back. She hit the gym Saturday and tweeted, "20 minutes on the elliptical seems like an eternity!!! What the hell…"

Though many obstetricians recommend holding off on exercise until six weeks postpartum (longer for a C-section), every woman is different. Here are some workout tips for brand-new moms.

Check with your doctor before exercising: How ready you are depends on how well you're healing. Most doctors recommend avoiding exercise until the bleeding stops, but may give the green light for low-intensity workouts, such as short walks or stretching.
Start off slow: Don't expect your body to run 30 minutes straight like it did before you were pregnant. Aside from the stress of the actual birth, lack of sleep and low energy levels associated with nursing offer new moms little get-up-and-go. Start with low-impact exercise like walking, yoga, or swimming. A 10-minute walk around the block every day for a week (or longer) will feel like plenty. Gradually increase the intensity and length of your workouts as your strength and stamina increases.
Invest in some baby gear: If you find it emotionally difficult to leave your baby, exercise with them. There are hundreds of baby carriers out there to enable you to walk with your baby. I'm a huge fan of the Moby Wrap, since it feels the most supportive on a new mom's often-sore back. If you're not into wearing your baby, or a C-section won't allow for it while you're healing, buy a jogging stroller (walk at first and run when you're doctor gives the OK). Postnatal fitness classes are another great option, not only for exercise, but as a way to connect with other new moms.
