January Has Got Interview Covered For August

January Jones struck a few moody poses for next month's Interview magazine. The issue coincides perfectly with the return of Mad Men on Aug. 16, and she sat down with none other than Jack Nicholson to chat about her name and success. Here's more:

Discussing with Jack why she picked him to do the interview: "Because after you called me to say that you appreciated my work in the first season of Mad Men, you said that I shouldn’t do too many interviews because the show is going to get bigger. So I thought it was ironic that you agreed to do this one."
On her name: "It’s from a book called Once Is Not Enough by Jacqueline Susann. Bad book. . . They made the book into a TV movie and my dad watched it with [my mother]. My dad liked how January went with Jones. My sisters’ names are Jina and Jacey Jones. . . People think that I changed my name. I could’ve been an actress, a superhero, or a stripper."
On her idea of success: "Well, success for me is to feel happy - 80 percent of the time. That’s been my goal in life. I think that comes from my father. He’s a very optimistic, happy person. I’m not quite sure if I’ll ever feel this, but I want to know how to be happy. I’m happy when I’m at work. I’m happy when I’m with my family or my dog. But, you know, there’s always that feeling of, I’m not satisfied. I have that thing in my stomach where I just need to keep striving for things. In my mind, I want the fairy tale."

Ed's a Rock 'n' Roll and Romance Kind of Guy

Ed Westwick struck a soulful pose for the upcoming issue of Interview. He's been in London during his hiatus from Gossip Girl, taking time to talk about fashion and his guest starring role on Californication. In the magazine, he opened up about his future, his music career, and his many tattoos. Here's more:

On pursuing other roles in movies: "Right now is a crucial time in terms of what decisions I make. I want to pursue other roles; I want to pursue different characters. I’ve been really, really pleased with what’s been happening, but I want to do other things. I’ve learned so much playing this character, but there’s so much more out there. You have to do things that excite you; you have to have a passion for your work. Otherwise you’re just a face on the screen. We’re trying to be raconteurs here - we’re trying to tell stories. . . Being from England, and being a lad, I have to say James Bond. It would be wrong of me to say anything else."
On his band: "It’s just kind of falling apart. It’s very difficult to juggle two careers, unless you’re going to have someone put it all together for you. Because you’re on TV, somebody just gives you a record deal - that’s not how I’d want to get it, because it’s just not real, you know? There’s nothing I can’t stand more than that whole manufactured kind of thing."
On his tattoos: "I’m a rock ’n’ roll guy, really. I’m a big fan of Elvis, man. I got “Heartbreak Hotel” tattooed on my chest. . . I’ve got “21 Grams,” “Love Me Two Times,” the song by The Doors. I have “I Heart Romance” on my forearm and “You Make Me Feel Like the One” across my shoulder. . . I saw ["I Heart Romance"] in a bathroom stall in a bar in Brooklyn. I thought it was cool, so I got it."

Sounds like Ed Westwick is just as interesting as Chuck Bass, though he certainly doesn't know as much about fashion in real life.

Zac Efron Is All Grown Up and Giving Us the Dirt

Zac Efron left his squeaky clean image behind to get down and dirty for the April cover of Interview Magazine. After rolling around in the mud with a very NSFW scantily clad lady (OMG wonder what Vanessa thought of this photo shoot?), Zac chatted with director Gus Van Sant about the sexy photos and his upcoming projects. Here's more:

On the photo shoot: "I think it went pretty cool. There was, like, a giant sandbox in the middle of a studio, and then I just got to roll around in the dirt for a couple of hours. I got pretty dirty by the end of it, so that was fun. It was definitely different from anything I had ever done before. The photographer was really fun to work with."
On what attracted him to 17 Again: "At the time, it was the most unique opportunity that presented itself. There were several roles that I could have done where I would have played essentially another high school student, or they were romances or stories in a high school setting, and there were lots of things that people wanted to turn into musicals. But the whole idea of playing a 37-year-old guy as a 17-year-old was just the most exciting prospect for me. I was really intrigued by the idea. I’ve always been kind of an old man, so to speak."

Zac looks and sounds ready to move on from his High School Musical days, and we're happy to see this teen star moving into manjoyment mode.

Ice Queen Mary-Kate on Humor and Full House

Mary-Kate Olsen is almost unrecognizable with her white-blond hair and icy makeup in the March issue of Interview. She's promoting her clothing lines The Row and Elizabeth and James, which launch men and footwear collections respectively this year. Unfortunately, many of you were turned off by the shoe prices already. The actress spoke about her bicoastal life, her need for privacy, and what it was like growing up on Full House. Here are some highlights:

On people prying into her personal life and Nate: "I definitely don't take any of it personally. You learn how to have a sense of humor pretty quickly. I honestly don't keep up on it unless it's something that would hurt someone else. I can take care of myself, that's not the problem. But it's just not fair to bring anyone else into the picture . . . It's always fun to welcome new people into your life. When dating anyone or becoming friends with anyone who has a different profession, a different life, it opens doors."
On NYC vs LA: "I'm definitely bicoastal, but I have to say, it's easier to live in New York than in LA. I feel like people respect other people's space a bit more here. Everyone has the right to that freedom, right? Everyone has that right. It's freezing in New York right now. In LA, it's sunny. But I would choose freezing over being followed."
On Full House: "We would get little gummy bears - like a gummy bear cut into three pieces. And we'd crawl to the gummy bear or reach for it . . . The outtakes of Full House are pretty funny . . . When we were younger, it was basically who wouldn't cry in front of the camera. As we got older, it would be split up by fun scenes. Like, say there was a cake-eating scene or riding an elephant . . . We'd split it up that way . . . Full House is on all the time. Really. I see that it's on. But last year, Ashley spent the night at my place and I woke up to the theme song at seven in the morning. I was like, 'What are you doing?' [laughs]"

MK's always been known to keep to herself, enjoying her privacy, but it's great to have a peek at her sense of humor too. Full House must seem like forever ago, and it sounds like both Olsens have some nostalgia for the show that started it all.

Lindsay Reveals Her Lessons Learned

Lindsay Lohan posed for a dramatic black and white photo shoot in the newest issue of Interview Magazine. Lauren Hutton played interviewer as the ladies chatted about the downside to being famous. Lindsay revealed her frustrations and what she would change about her life if she could. Here are some highlights:

On the public's perception of her: "The worst part is, in terms of what people see of me, I have become this girl who just loves to be photographed, doesn't know how to focus, doesn't know how to work on set, just loves the attention, knows how to go out at night, knows how to party. And you know what? I was 20 years old. I never went to college. And I lived maybe six months out of my life like that, doing something wrong, and then I stopped. God forbid I should have ever learned my lesson. But at this point it's so hard for people to even believe that there was a lesson to be learned at all, because they just think I'm wrong. "
On what she would change about her life: "You know what's hard? I want to give back. I want to do all the things that will make me feel fulfilled. But whenever I do those things, people think it's a press stunt or something. Because they do find me, and there's really no way of hiding from that. And the second that you complain about it, they say, 'Well, this is what you wanted, so this is what you're going to get.'"

On why she started acting: "I just feel as though it's become a situation where people have manifested this caricature of who I am, and they act as if there's no real person inside of it. I mean, people really have come to believe-directors, producers, agents, whoever it may be-that I started in this because I wanted to be a celebrity. But that was never my intention. I wanted to be a movie star. But movie stars are not what they used to be."
On Lauren's advice to get away from it all: "But it's so impossible for me to actually do that. When I was in Dubai, there was still press lined up around the hotel. So I find it close to impossible to actually do that. I mean, it is what it is. This is what I asked for, and in this day and age that's what actually goes on. But what hurts me the most is that I work just as hard as any other actress around my age, like Scarlett Johansson, but I just don't get the opportunities that they get because people are so distracted by the mess that I created in my life. But that doesn't mean it's going to last forever."

Madonna Is Ready to Come Back Strong

Madonna looks ready to kick some ass in April's Interview! The almost 50-year-old pop icon is showing off her super-toned body while sporting some sexy boxing gear. She is about to hit the promo road for her new album, Hard Candy, and we can't wait to get our hands on it. In the article, M talks about her kids, working with JT, and her thoughts on freedom. Here are highlights:

On working with Justin: "I really enjoy writing with Justin . . . We had psychoanalytic sessions whenever we wrote songs first. We'd sit down and we'd start talking about situations. And then we'd start talking about issues or problems or relationships with people. That was the only way, because you know, writing together with somebody is very intimate . . . that was fun, because he's open and he's got talent. He's a songwriter. I haven't worked with a lot of songwriters where I'm instantly connected and start riffing and playing with the rhythm of the words. He's as interested in the rhythm of the words as the meaning of the words."

On freedom: "Freedom is a funny word because when we think we're free, we're not really. I think freedom is quite illusory . . . When I stop thinking about myself all the time and put other people before me on a regular basis, that's real freedom. When I can love unconditionally . . . then that's real freedom. So it's something to strive for, but I'm not free."

On bringing Lourdes to Malawi: "She spent several weeks working in the orphanages, particularly one with newborn children, and most of them were HIV-positive. She so came into her own and was so responsible and stayed for eight hours every day and worked tirelessly. I thought, why am I babying her so much? She's capable of so much more. We don't let kids do anything. We think, Oh, they're kids - they can't take care of other kids; they can't do this; they can't do that. And after you go to Africa, you drop all that silliness."
On adopting David: "He wouldn't have lived if I hadn't taken him. It's not even a possibility."

Sometimes it's still hard to believe that Madonna is both a pop legend and a full-time super-mom. This is one woman who continues to impress us year after year.

Ellen Gets Interviewed by Drew

Ellen Page got to work it as a flirty tomboy for the March issue of Interview magazine. She's definitely been having quite the year since her breakout role in Juno. In addition to being a cover girl, Miss Page will also get to walk the red carpet at the Oscars this Sunday after earning a nomination for best actress. In the magazine, Drew Barrymore (her future director) did the honors of interviewing Ellen, quizzing her on everything from her success to her love life to her favorite color. Here are highlights:

DB: "What's your idea of a perfect day?"
EP: "Lord. I don't know. Maybe wake up, have some delicious coffee, eat some delicious fruit, then go for a bike ride to a lake and bring a good book. And read and swim and read and swim - just something super simple, I guess. Mellow."
Drew Barrymore: "And what about the next five years? What are your aspirations?"
Ellen Page: "I hesitate about having aspirations that are too intense, because I just don't know what's going to happen. As corny as it sounds, I guess the answer would be remaining as honest as possible and having the control to play roles that are fulfilling and challenging to me and that I feel passionate about. And I hope, in the next five years, that's going to be something I'll be able to do consistently."
DB: "What's most surreal about your life?"
EP: "Well, I did Oprah yesterday, and then I went to the NBR [National Board of Review] Awards last night and met Kate Winslet, whom I adore. I was all star-struck and trying to be supercool, but she came over to me!

DB: "You're going through a period where you're getting a lot of accolades for Juno. What do awards mean to you?"
EP: "Well, I'm definitely not an actor in order to receive an award. But at the same time, it's what I love to do. So when you receive that acknowledgment, it's like, 'Wow, maybe I'll be in a couple more movies.' And that's a really exciting thought."
DB: "And what could they [a person with whom you'd been flirting with] say that would make you raise an eyebrow and go, 'Hmm, I'm interested in this person'?"
EP: "Probably just something ridiculously random, just talking and being honest with each other. As corny as it sounds, just being yourself. I'm horrible at flirting, though, so I shouldn't be answering this question."
DB: Ok, my last question: What's your favorite color in the Crayola box?"
EP: Green. I suppose I like earthy colors. They just feel simpler."

Ellen seems like one of Hollywood's more down to earth starlets who we can't seem to take our eyes off of. She's refreshing and we look forward to seeing what's next for this humble actress.

Keira Knightley's Rather Revealing Interview

Keira Knightley, no stranger to a magazine cover, found time between movie premieres to sit down with Interview. She stars in a rather racy photo shoot and discusses her upcoming film Atonement, why she's viewed as old Hollywood, and why she keeps taking her clothes off for magazines. Here's more:

On the characters in Atonement: Everybody has regrets. Everybody feels guilty about something, though hopefully not for something as bad as what happens in the movie. But that’s what is wonderful about the book and the film - you understand where these people are coming from. The situation may be completely different from ones I’ve experienced or that most people have experienced, but the core emotions are the same - that we all make mistakes, and sometimes we’re horrendous to each other. It’s the Robbie character [played by James McAvoy] that I find truly heartbreaking, because at the beginning he’s really Christ-like in his goodness - he’s a selfless, perfect person - and in a funny way I don’t think we can ever handle it when someone is that good, so what we do is destroy them.

On seeming old Hollywood: I think it has more to do with the films I’ve done. If you watch Atonement the look of my character, Cecilia Tallis, is incredibly stylized and sort of movie star-esque for that time. But I think different people have seen me in a different ways. I started out being very much “girl next door,” and now I’ve gone into a bit of Hollywood-glamour phase.
About her photo shoot: We ended by taking my clothes off again. How does that always happen... I don’t know. Because I say yes, I suppose.

Hey, at least she's honest. I read Atonement many years ago and recall the ending making me angry, but otherwise loving it. I can't wait to see how Keira and James translate it onto the big screen.

Sienna Miller and Rhys took their tattoo love fest from the streets of London to the red carpet premiere of Interview at the London Film Festival last night. That said, she wasn't quite ready to pose with him as her date just yet. Sienna looked cute and all smiles with her mom by her side, but we think she could've found something a little more flattering than that LB potato sack. Then again, we're just happy to see her in something other than those crazy hippie outfits.
