Should Isaiah Washington Stay Out of the Grey's Drama?

Brooke Smith was abruptly let go from the cast of Grey's Anatomy after last week's episode. While the details are sketchy, there are a lot of stories correlating her departure with her on-screen homosexuality. Isaiah Washington, who was fired from the show last year, spoke out about her write-off, calling it "disgusting" and saying that the show could be redeemed by bringing back his character. What do you think - should Isaiah just stay out of all the drama?

With Joel heading off on tour and a babysitter secured for the evening, Nicole looked gorgeous stepping out last night for a screening of Trembled Blossoms presented by Prada in Beverly Hills. She was joined by the newest Gossip Girl on the block, Michelle Trachtenberg, as well as the impeccably dressed Taye Diggs and Rosario Dawson. Budding fashion designer herself, Nicky Hilton was out to enjoy the show with her boyfriend David Katzenberg. All the stars looked great in their designer duds - and they're battling it out over on Fab.

Celebrity Democrats Take Front Seat at the LA Debates

Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton faced off at the Kodak Theater in LA last night at the final Democratic debate before Super Tuesday and some of Hollywood's most famous faces were front and center. Leonardo DiCaprio looked deep in thought deciding between the two Democratic candidates left in the race while Pierce Brosnan and Christina Applegate were happy to pose on the red (blue) carpet. Yes, you read that correctly, there was a red carpet at the debate. Quentin Tarantino and Kerry Washington engaged in a little post-debate schmoozing, no doubt discussing all the issues of the evening. Were you watching last night? Most Shocking Headlines: Isaiah Washington's Grey's Scandal

We've been counting down the most shocking headlines of 2007, and we'll be revealing one more each day through December 21. We hope you enjoy this look back at some of the posts and stories that we certainly weren't expecting to see.

After his infamous feud with Patrick Dempsey last October, we were unsure about what 2007 would hold for Isaiah Washington and Dr. Burke on Grey's Anatomy. The aftermath continued at the Golden Globes when Katherine Heigl jumped to her BFF T.R.'s defense when asked about the situation on the red carpet, while Isaiah denied that he even used a homophobic slur in the first place. However, T.R. Knight finally spoke up for himself for the first time on Ellen a few days later, reiterating that Isaiah had called him an offensive name. GLAAD then demanded another apology from Isaiah, who obliged and even went to a psychological treatment facility for a week. In the end, Isaiah's efforts and apologies were too little too late, and his contract with ABC was terminated in June. Even getting fired didn't stop him from putting his foot in his mouth though, saying that he was mad as hell, sad, and that T.R. should've been fired instead. Isaiah topped it all off with an interview on Larry King Live in July where he basically changed the whole story, but by that time everyone seemed over it. Isaiah moved on with a role on Bionic Woman and just last week we saw him picketing with his ex-castmates. Even if they keep it cordial, we have a feeling that things on the set of Grey's are much calmer and happier this season.

Heigl Talks Golden Globes, Plus WGA-Award Nomination

The stars of Grey's Anatomy were out picketing in support of their writers (or former writers, as the case may be, Isaiah Washington?) yesterday. This morning was a bittersweet one for the show, as it was nominated for two Golden Globes - Best Dramatic Series as well as Heigl for Best Supporting Actress. Naturally, Heigl spoke to Entertainment Tonight about what this means. She said, "I'm not crossing the picket line - not unless I'm contractually obliged to do so - which the Golden Globes I'm not." In brighter Writers Guild news, they just released their nominees for this year's WGA Awards and while Grey's didn't pick up any nods, some great and very deserving shows did. TCA News Roundup: Isaiah, "Singing Bee," "Bionic"

The attention at the TCA press tour shifts to CBS today, but there are still a few great NBC tidbits to share from the network's two days at the press tour:

"Chuck" star Zachary Levi (above), Pop's new favorite person, took first place in a live version of "The Singing Bee" at NBC's all-star party on Tuesday night, beating out Scott Porter of "Friday Night Lights", an Us Weekly writer, and a tone-deaf TV critic. The highlight: Levi's perfect rendition of the chorus from "Breakfast at Tiffany's." Oh, the mid-'90s. Check out Pop for more great pictures of the party.
"Bionic Woman" producers answered several questions about their casting of Isaiah Washington as a guest star for several episodes early this season. The character existed before Washington was brought on board, but the role was changed slightly to fit the number of episodes Washington was signed for. NBC entertainment co-chairman Ben Silverman brought Washington to the producers, rather than the producers going after Washington on their own. And they said they believe in giving Washington a chance to make amends. "Rather than excommunicate someone," executive producer Jason Smilovic said, "we felt that it was better to give him a second chance."

Two more bits, so

The "Bionic" producers also talked a bit about the new role for the main character's little sister, who now will be played by Lucy Hale. To help move the story forward, they've given the sister a background in computer hacking. And the sister is no longer deaf; that, the producers explained, had been a way to get the main character talking in sign language to chimps in a research lab, but when the lab and the chimps were written out of later drafts of the show, there was no reason for the deaf sister to stay.
The "Journeyman" producers shrugged off comparisons between their show and The Time Traveler's Wife, with creator Kevin Falls explaining that he's been writing about time travel for years and knows very little about the book. Star Gretchen Egolf said her friends who loved Time Traveler's Wife actually seem more open to watching the show because of the book.
