Jake Gyllenhaal Suits Up to Start Filming in Canada

Jake Gyllenhaal kicked off the first day of filming on his new project, An Enemy, in Toronto today. He got into character in a disheveled suit and the grown-out facial hair that he's been sporting for the last few months. Over the weekend, Jake was in NYC, where he's been hanging out with friends and family. He shared a walk with his sister Maggie before she welcomed a baby girl in April and was also spotted partying with pals. Jake met up with Jay-Z for a guys' night out at the Standard along with Pharrell Williams. It looks like Jake is turning his focus to business now, though, since he's started working on set in Canada and also has End of Watch hitting theaters this Fall.

End of Watch Trailer: Jake Gyllenhaal Is a Cop With a Target on His Back

In the trailer for End of Watch, Jake Gyllenhaal's closely shaved head is a bit of a distraction, but once you get past it, there's a lot going on. Gyllenhaal stars as Brian Taylor, an LAPD cop who enjoys his day job of busting perps with his friend and partner, played by Michael Peña. It's business as usual out on the streets for the cocky pair, until they happen upon a crime scene that makes them the target of a dangerous drug cartel. That threat is scary enough, but it's made more troubling considering that the men are both starting families.

Between the reality-show-style POV, the electric-guitar riffs that indicate this movie is intense, and all the gunfire, the trailer gave me a headache. Still, it's worth it to see Gyllenhaal in such a tough-guy role - not to mention the brief but funny scene of him busting a move with his new wife (Anna Kendrick) at their wedding. The film comes out Sept. 28, but you can check out the trailer after the jump.

Siblings Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal Bond Over a NYC Stroll

Jake Gyllenhaal took a walk in NYC yesterday with his pregnant sister Maggie Gyllenhaal. The brother and sister duo are hanging around Maggie's home base as she and husband Peter Sarsgaard prep for the arrival of their second child. Pregnant Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter just announced that they're expecting a daughter! The special delivery will make their older child, 5-year-old Ramona Sarsgaard, a big sister. Maggie said of the pregnancy, "I find it difficult to pretend you're not pregnant, which I had to do. I didn't let anyone know until three and a half months this time. I went to film festivals. I'm throwing up in the bathroom and having to keep pretzels in my purse, and having to fit into dresses."

Jake, meanwhile, is between projects. He wrapped up End of Watch at the tail end of 2011, and is looking forward to its release on Sept. 28 of this year. He's also prepping to shoot An Enemy, a thriller from director Denis Villeneuve.

Jake Gyllenhaal arrived at Lincoln Center in NYC last night for a fundraiser, sporting his now-signature scruff and a suit. The charitable evening was in memory of Paul Newman and his efforts for the SeriousFun Foundation and Hole in the Wall Camps, which provide support to seriously ill children and their families. Jake was one of many celebrities in attendance at the benefit, with Jimmy Fallon, Josh Groban, and Tina Fey contributing their varied talents to the show.

Jake is uncle to 5-year-old Ramona, his sister Maggie Gyllenhaal's daughter, and frequently lends his celebrity to good causes geared toward kids. When it comes to his day job, Jake wrapped End of Watch late last year and served as one of the Berlin Film Festival's judges in February. Since then, he's taken advantage of his break from the big screen to try out some new creative projects. He most recently starred in a violent - and decidedly not kid-friendly - music video for French band The Shoes.

Jake Gyllenhaal was spotted out at a gas station in LA yesterday. He's hanging out on the West Coast following a stay overseas in February and a recent visit to NYC. Jake's on a break from shooting after wrapping up his last film, End of Watch, which is due out in September. The cop drama pairs him with Michael Peña and Anna Kendrick, though for his next project, Jake could star opposite himself. Jake's reportedly in talks for An Enemy, the "dark and edgy" story of a history teacher who discovers his exact double exists. On a brighter note, Jake is about to become an uncle again since his sister Maggie is due to give birth to her second child this Spring.

Jake Gyllenhaal joined his fellow 2012 Berlin Film Festival judges like directors Anton Corbijn, Mike Leigh, and Francois Ozon, as well as actress Charlotte Gainsbourg, for their closing ceremony last night. They wrapped up the cinematic fun following a week of screenings, photo ops, and press conferences. Angelina Jolie, with her In the Land of Blood and Honey, and Robert Pattinson, who debuted Bel Ami, were among the stars who trekked to Germany for events - check out all the Berlin Film Festival pictures. Last night, statues were handed out to honor the best work seen at the festival. Jake personally handed off the best actress Silver Bear to Congolese actress Rachel Mwanza for her performance in War Witch. Other honors went to the Danish movie A Royal Affair and Germany's Babara. Jake Gyllenhaal presented his friend Meryl Streep with the Berlin Film Festival's Honorary Golden Bear for lifetime achievement last night during a Valentine's Day presentation. The pair worked together on 2007's Rendition, though Jake joked that he first became acquainted with Meryl as "Hank's mom" when he struck up a grade school friendship with her son, Henry Gummer.

Meryl's in Germany screening The Iron Lady, which earned her a best actress statue at the Golden Globes and, most recently, the BAFTAs. Meryl is also nominated for an Academy Award thanks to her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher; however, our editors think The Help's Viola Davis will win the Oscar. Jake Gyllenhaal, wearing a Salvatore Ferragamo suit, joined his fellow jurors last night at the opening ceremony for the 62nd annual Berlin Film Festival. Jake touched down in Germany earlier this week and got a warm reception from fans and the festival's director, Dieter Kosslick. The competition officially kicked off yesterday with the world premiere of Diane Kruger's Farewell, My Queen. There are 18 films in the running this year with each hoping to take home the Golden Bear trophy for best feature. In addition to Diane's movie, Jake will also have the opportunity to judge Angelina Jolie's In the Land of Blood and Honey, which is scheduled to premiere tomorrow night.
