American Reunion: A Yearbook of Bad Memories

In 1999, a raunchy comedy called American Pie became an instant high school movie classic boasting the tagline "There's something about your first piece." That line feels truer than ever upon the release of American Reunion, the third sequel in the franchise. The film tries to capture the humor and spirit of the original film, but all it does is make you wish the Pie films had quit when they were ahead.

Thirteen years after graduation, we find Jim (Jason Biggs), settled down with former band geek Michelle (Alyson Hannigan). Their once-spicy sex life has dwindled following the birth of their first child, and he's mostly lost touch with his former BFFs Oz (Chris Klein), Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas), and Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas). To remedy the situation, the foursome vows to have a boys' weekend back in their hometown for their high school reunion. Of course, the weekend becomes a disaster complete with binge drinking, surprise sexual encounters, awkward moments with former classmates, and a relentless amount of incredibly obnoxious one-liners from Stifler (Seann William Scott).

Getting caught up with Jim and the gang might have been more fun if there hadn't been two more Pie movies between the original and this one; we already have a good sense of where the characters have been and how they've evolved (or haven't, in most cases). Plus, you can garner what's happened to each of them in the first ten minutes, and after that you're just trying to watch a bunch of 30-somethings relive their glory days. We already saw this movie, and it was called Grown Ups.

The Pie movies have always relied on objectifying women for laughs, but American Reunion takes it to a new level. The guys ogle teenage girls at the lake, where they're wearing thong bikinis and making out with each other in front of their friends, because according to the movie, that's what all high school girls are like now. It's not just the teens either: there's a full-on catfight between two of the female leads, and the weight gain of one of Stifler's former hookups is played for gross-out laughs that's not just unfunny; it's downright mean.

The best part about American Reunion is that it incorporates some awesome '90s hits like "My Own Worst Enemy" and "The Freshman," but even that only happens in the final 20 minutes of the film, when you're already so burned out on sight gags that you barely have enough attention span to notice the soundtrack.

The same goes for all the cameos: it's fun to point out the throwbacks to the original, and I appreciated that John Cho (aka "the MILF guy") has a much bigger role this time around, but it's not enough to justify a film that's overlong and over the top. It made me realize that when it comes to the Pie franchise, I've had my fill.

Last night marked the American Reunion premiere in LA, and the original cast of the franchise turned out to support the latest installment in the series. Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Klein, and Tara Reid were just some of the actors who joined forces on the red carpet at the debut. The new movie picks up 13 years after the American Pie class has graduated from high school, and at a slightly delayed 10-year reunion, the friends reunite for a weekend of reminiscing and, of course, sexual misadventures.

Last evening also prompted one of the original cast members to share some happy news on the red carpet - Seann William Scott is engaged to his Victoria's Secret model girlfriend! The People's Choice Awards took over the Nokia Theatre in LA tonight with major stars from Twilight, The Vampire Diaries, and Hunger Games in attendance. TV stars Lea Michele, Nina Dobrev, and Neil Patrick Harris were just some of the lucky winners who took home beautiful Waterford crystal statues. Maroon 5, Chloe Moretz, and Adam Sandler nabbed further honors.

Robert Pattinson debuted a new hairstyle and accepted a trophy for best dramatic film on behalf of his Water For Elephants cast. He was presented the award by friend and Twilight costar Ashley Greene as well as Chuck's Zachary Levi. Big-screen comedy Bridesmaids got bragging rights for best comedy, though Kristen Wiig missed out on the fun in order to rehearse for this week's SNL. We were there on the red carpet and behind the scenes during the telecast to chat with attendees and winners. American Reunion Trailer: Finding New Ways to Humiliate Yourself in Front of Loved Ones

In American Reunion, the American Pie kids are all grown up with spouses and families, but they still find opportunities for sexy time - with themselves. In this teaser trailer, we get a very similar scene to the first film's unforgettable intro. Jim (Jason Biggs), now married to Michelle (Alyson Hannigan), seizes a few minutes to himself, and gets out his trusty tube sock (though with changing technology, his porn video has been upgraded to a laptop).

Since Jim no longer lives with his parents, be sure to wait and see just who gets scarred by his actions. This still doesn't give us a lot of plot, but rest assured: there will be masturbation. Watch it when you keep reading.

The American Pie Reunion Starts Lining Up Its Cast - Who Else Should Sign On?

Ready for another helping of pie? Jason Biggs, Sean William Scott, and Eugene Levy have all negotiated deals for a fourth American Pie film titled, American Reunion. We first heard rumblings of a fourquel over a year ago, but with this latest news, it appears the film has gotten the green light. So which other cast members should sign on next?

Universal has reportedly reached out to Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tara Reid, Chris Klein, Mena Suvari, and Jennifer Coolidge, but they're definitely not the only actors I'd like to see return. What about Eddie Kaye Thomas, better known as Finch? Certainly they can't have Stifler's mom without her much younger sex buddy. Alyson Hannigan is also a must (just imagine if Michelle and Jim are parents!). Place your pick for who you'd most like to see reprise their role.

Jason Biggs Cracks American Pie Jokes and Has Mad Love at the TCA

The sitcom is alive and well, especially on CBS, which unveiled its latest comedy, Mad Love at the Winter TCA. The show is an ensemble comedy starring Jason Biggs, Sarah Chalke, Judy Greer, and Tyler Labine as four twenty-something singles falling in love in New York City. The stars and series creator sat down to talk about their rom-com-flavored sitcom and how great the cast gets along.

Biggs fielded questions about why he wanted to do the show, and he replied that he has "been trying to do something with CBS for quite a while." He says it's been a great experience for him, especially since the cast has such great chemistry: "We've been having a blast." And to his credit, he didn't shy away from poking fun at his own career, joking, "I have sex with a sheet cake in the second episode."
Biggs and Chalke play characters who fall for each other in the pilot, and Labine and Greer play their cynical pals. When Labine and Greer were asked how they felt about constantly being cast as sidekicks, neither seemed particularly disappointed by it. It's "less hours and more fun," according to Labine, while Greer shrugged it off, saying, "I love my career . . . I think it's been awesome."
Amid the best-friend talk of Labine and Greer, series creator Matt Tarses took the opportunity to point out that their characters, Larry and Connie, aren't just best friends. Indeed, they hate each other immediately in the pilot, but it's obvious they they may be more: Tarses says that "there's an attraction that'll play out over the course of the show" between them.

Greer was asked about whether she'd been surprised by the cancellation of her previous show, Miss Guided, and Greer said that she "wasn't surprised, but I was super duper bummed." But she seems genuinely excited to be on Mad Love: "I'm onto bigger and better things now, so this is good."
Chalke said that she and Greer, who play best friends, have been friends for years, and had been wishing they could do a show together. Chalke and Labine also go way back, with Biggs being the only person the other costar hadn't met, but she sung his praises: "He's absolutely hysterical and has such incredible timing.

Demi and Kirsten Take a Turn Behind the Camera

Demi Moore recovered from her plane drama in time to appear at the opening night of the Hollyshorts festival on Thursday night in LA. She was there to support her short piece Streak, which also brought out some of her A-list pals at a screening last year. Kirsten Dunst was on hand to present her Welcome, after actually premiering it nearly two years ago. She took another break from acting to make a documentary, though she'll be back as a leading lady when she starts work on Spider-Man 4.

Kate, Dane and Jason Premiere Their Best Friend's Girl

It was all laughs at the LA premiere of My Best Friend's Girl last night. Kate Hudson, Dane Cook and Jason Biggs looked like they kept it light showing off their romantic comedy. Bubbly Kate Hudson rolled solo in her little dress while Dane Cook showed off quite the slicked back 'do. Only newlywed Jason brought a date, his new wife Jenny Mollen. The movie hits theaters this weekend so we'll see if it can wrangle the No. 1 box office spot from Burn After Reading thanks to this funny trio including this famous beautiful blonde.
