Jeff Who Lives at Home Trailer: Jason Segel Gets Sort of Serious

In Jeff Who Lives at Home, the latest film from the Duplass brothers (the filmmakers behind The Puffy Chair and Cyrus), Jason Segel stars as Jeff, a philosophizing stoner who (quite literally) lives at home in his mother's (Susan Sarandon) basement. Jeff is constantly looking for signs from the universe, and on one particular day, he bumps into his brother (Ed Helms), who has a very different outlook on life. In a series of unexpected and unfortunate events, the two try their best to make sense of what's happening all around them.

Segel is playing his standard lovable goofball role, but in this case he's got such a strong, and perhaps warped, sense of self-awareness that it's debilitating. We're curious as to how he'll tackle this somewhat darker role. The ladies in the supporting cast, Judy Greer and Sarandon, are also amazing and taking on similarly heartfelt roles, so we can't wait to see where the Duplass brothers go with this one.

Jason Segel and Alyson Hannigan Talk About the Future of How I Met Your Mother

CBS focused on its current shows during the Winter TCA, bringing out comedy How I Met Your Mother, which is currently in its seventh season. Jason Segel and Alyson Hannigan were the only actors present today, but they had plenty to say, along with series creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas. They talked about what's next for Marshall and Lily and their new little family, Robin's recent revelation, and the perennial question about when we'll meet the mother.

Though no one gave us anything concrete about the mother, Bays insisted, "we know what the end game of the series is." Segel piped up to say that he was "so relieved when I found out there was an actual plan," and then joked about it, implying that it might be the apocalypse before we find out: "We have to see if the Mayans are right! It might be Dec. 21, 2012."
Bays and Thomas answered the question of whether Marshall and Lily are really moving permanently to their suburban home by saying that we're all about to find out. Thomas said that we're "going to see them deal with that" in the next few episodes.
Fans weren't the only ones irritated with the show faking us out with Robin's kids. Hannigan recounted, "You should have seen us at the table read. I was like, season pass delete!" But she said she was angry because she cared so much.
On the show's evolution, Thomas mentioned that they couldn't have done storylines like Marshall losing his dad in season one or two. For his part on that arc, Segel said that "it was a real honor" to be given the chance to play out Marshall's grief, and echoed that "it's a real honor when people ask the best of you."

The Five-Year Engagement Trailer: Segel and Blunt Can't Get to the Altar

The trailer for The Five-Year Engagement has so much going for it that I'm almost afraid to jinx it. First, we've got Jason Segel and Emily Blunt as Tom and Violet, an adorable, engaged couple that are continually delaying their wedding date when other life matters (like job relocation) get in the way. Secondly, there's a promising supporting cast that includes Chris Pratt as Tom's BFF and Alison Brie as Violet's little sister. Third, the trailer has plenty of laugh-out-loud moments but still seems like a relatable romantic comedy.

My only complaint is that the trailer may give away too much, but I'm already a fan of the main characters; Tom is a lot like How I Met Your Mother's Marshall (a lovable, fun-loving kinda guy) and it's refreshing to see Blunt letting loose and showing her goofy side. The Muppets: Most Sensational, Inspirational, and Celebrational

It would have been easy to make a new version of The Muppets that relied solely on nostalgia. Just having Kermit and the gang show up to sing some songs would have been fun, but cowriters Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller have done so much more than that. With a story that appeals to a new generation while still summoning up the magic of the classic characters, they've revived the franchise and created a funny, emotionally rich movie. The film follows Segel as Gary, a sweet everyman taking his girlfriend Mary (Amy Adams) and brother Walter (who happens to be a Muppet) on vacation to Los Angeles. Walter and Gary are huge Muppets fans, so they visit the old theater in LA, but they discover that it's a decrepit structure that's about to get torn down by nefarious oil magnate Tex Richman (Chris Cooper).

Walter and Gary want to warn the Muppets about Richman, but there's one big problem: the gang has split up, which means Gary and Walter have to track them down. Things get really fun as we're re-introduced to the Muppets in their new lives; some have important careers, some are down and out, some are in therapy. It's a clever way of bringing the characters up to date while also acknowledging that the Muppets aren't as popular as they once were. That kind of self-awareness is pervasive and very funny, and with so much humor and a ton of celebrity cameos, The Muppets is a wonderfully sweet comedy that's both loyal to Jim Henson's original intent and updated for modern audiences. Jason and Amy Double Date With Kermit and Piggy For The Muppets Premiere!

The Muppets shut down Hollywood Boulevard in LA yesterday for the world premiere of their new movie. Kermit the Frog was joined by his whole crew - Gonzo, Rolf, Animal, Fozzy, and newcomer Walter - arriving in a Jeep to kick off the green-carpet processional of stars and puppets. Miss Piggy followed closely behind in her own convertible, wearing Jeremy Scott and Louboutins, and blew kisses to the crowd. We talked to Piggy and Kermit about their return to the big screen, and the pair joked that this film brought them closer together.

We also spoke with some of the human stars including Amy Adams and Jason Segel. Jason said it was a dream come true to work with the Muppets and he plans on inviting all of them, including his puppet brother Walter, over for Thanksgiving dinner so they can reenact the landing on Plymouth Rock. Many of Jason's How I Met Your Mother costars also stepped out to support his latest venture including Alyson Hannigan, Josh Radnor, and Neil Patrick Harris, who has a small role in the film.
