Marion Works With Joaquin, Then Hits the Streets With Guillaume and Marcel

Marion Cotillard got to work in NYC on Friday on a new movie with Joaquin Phoenix. The two actors are under the direction of James Gray, who worked with Joaquin and Gwyneth Paltrow on the 2008 film Two Lovers. This picture, which takes place in the 1920s, doesn't yet have a title. Marion stars as an immigrant to the US, who's tricked by Joaquin's character into a life of vaudeville. Jeremy Renner also has a part in the production. This is one of Joaquin's first roles since he took a break from acting following the release of I'm Still Here. He's also starring in Paul Thomas Anderson's pseudo-Scientology movie, The Master.

It seems Marion had yesterday off, though, to spend time out and about with her boyfriend Guillaume Canet and their young son Marcel. The trio bundled up to take a stroll around their temporary home base. The Canet-Cotillard clan was last in Paris, where Marion and Guillaume attended a César event. The Césars, France's most prestigious award show, takes place back in Paris on Feb. 24 with Guillaume serving as host.

2010 Biggest Headline: Joaquin Phoenix Admits to Hoax

It was October 2008 when Oscar-nominated actor Joaquin Phoenix announced his retirement from acting, but it wasn't until September 2010 that we finally learned the method to his madness.

After Phoenix followed-up his initial statement with a decision to try his hand at a career as a rap musician, many of us were left scratching our heads. The plot thickened when we learned that Phoenix's newfound bushy beard and standoffish demeanor were part of a documentary he was making with his brother-in-law, Casey Affleck. The media immediately cried hoax, but Affleck and Phoenix adamantly denied the allegations and continued to film Phoenix's downward spiral, which included awkward live rapping performances and one of the most uncomfortable interviews David Letterman has ever had.

Phoenix kept a low profile for most of 2010, but we grew suspicious when he was caught by the paparazzi looking considerably more clean-cut than he had in awhile. He and Affleck premiered their documentary, I'm Still Here, at the Venice Film Festival, ahead of its September release.

Critics still couldn't decide whether the story was true or not, but luckily we didn't have to wait very long to get an answer. Days after it hit the big screen, Casey Affleck came clean, admitting that the documentary was a two-year experiment and the film was the "performance of his [Phoenix's] career."

Phoenix even appeared as his old self on Letterman, re-affirming that the film was all a ploy to see how much the media would believe. The film earned a scant $400,000 at the box office, and now the real question for 2011 is how quickly Phoenix will return to the big screen. Many of you said that you're ready to give him a second chance, but we'll have to wait and see if Hollywood feels the same way.

Kellan Shows Love For Animals With Joaquin, Lea, and Then Kola

Kellan Lutz joined Jenna Dewan and Kelly Osbourne in LA on Saturday to support PETA at their 30th Anniversary Gala and Humanitarian Awards, which was hosted by 30 Rock's Alec Baldwin. Alec was hilarious in the season premiere of his series last week with funny costar Matt Damon, and he kept his star-studded crowd, which also included I'm Still Here pranksters Casey Affleck and Joaquin Phoenix, laughing throughout the night. Lea Michele and Kellan were among the evening's honorees.

Kellan, though, got a head start on his weekend by going out for a jog near Runyon Canyon on Friday. He stuck with his animal loving theme by bringing along his buddy Kola. Kellan kept his sexy Calvins under wraps but fortunately showed off his toned triceps. He's back in California after a trip to Washington DC, where he volunteered at an event celebrating great communities for young people. The actor has a little more downtime to chill near home and with his girlfriend, AnnaLynne McCord, before starting work on Breaking Dawn soon.
