John Mayer Sings the Blues Over a Vocal Setback

John Mayer arrived at LAX yesterday wearing his favorite hat, ready to board an outbound flight. John was on the West Coast with plans to play at Tony Bennett's 85th birthday celebration, however, late last week he was forced to pull out of the performance, as well as his upcoming gig at the I Heart Radio music festival, due to a medical condition. Taking to his blog, John wholeheartedly apologized to fans and explained he's being treated for granuloma, a growth next to his vocal chords. The release date for John's next album, Born and Raised, has also been pushed back due to his throat condition and is now slated for 2012.

John Mayer threw on a black jacket and headed out for lunch at LA's Madeo yesterday. The singer's been keeping a relatively low profile the past few months with minimal blog posts and public appearances, but all of that is about to change with news that he's one of the many headlining acts expected to rock Las Vegas during September's IHeartRadio music festival. The two-day event will also bring out Coldplay, Lady Gaga, J Lo, Alicia Keys, Carrie Underwood, and Usher. It doesn't seem John will use the occasion to make a return to Twitter. The subject of not tweeting came up during John Mayer's speech at the Berklee College of Music recently. He said, "I realized about a year ago that I couldn't have a complete thought anymore, and I was a tweetaholic . . . I had four million Twitter followers, and I was always writing on it. And I stopped using Twitter as an outlet and I started using Twitter as the instrument to riff on, and it started to make my mind smaller and smaller and smaller. And I couldn't write a song." John ended his talk on a positive note. He told the students, "Anybody who's made it will tell you, you can make it. Anyone who hasn't made it will tell you, you can't."

John Mayer was joined by his pal comedian Jeffrey Ross for a guys' night out in LA last night. The pair dined at Mastro's steakhouse and continued on to the Roosevelt hotel, where they chatted up a pair of lovely ladies at the bar. The evening didn't end there for John and Jeff, who later relocated to Hollywood's Chateau Marmont, where Robert Pattinson was also recently spotted. John's living it up on the West Coast and practicing new tunes before returning to the Big Apple next month, where he's planning to perform at a private show with proceeds going to various charities.

John Mayer carried his own bags and guitar yesterday while arriving at a private recording studio in Santa Monica. The singer made a rather dapper arrival to LA last week and has since adapted to the California casual vibe. In his spare time, John's made a return to blogging and recently hinted that he may start writing new songs, though he hasn't confirmed any plans for his next album. He has, however, nailed down details for his charitable May 16 performance. He'll be playing a private show for 100 fans who ponied up $250 a ticket to attend with all proceeds benefiting the We Are Family Foundation and NCIRE and Fisher House organizations. John's been a longtime supporter of veteran groups, and this is just his latest event organized to benefit a philanthropic cause.

John's now embracing the Spring-cleaning ritual by trying to clear out some highly discounted branded merchandise. He's also back to blogging, although less frequently than he has in the past. His latest entry suggests he may be penning new tunes as well as sticking to his usual gym session.

His latest entry had to do with dog whispering a friend's pet during a dinner party, but once John's ready with the next entry, he'll delete that posting. There seems to be a complicated relationship between John and his ecommunication, just as there is with him and his many rumored love interests. The latest unlikely rumor, in fact, linked John to nearly nude Lancôme model Kate Winslet.
