Julia Roberts Goes Barefoot With Her Husband For a Beach Bash

Julia Roberts and Danny Moder were arm in arm at the Jonathan Beach Club in Santa Monica last night. They paired up for Heal the Bay's Bring Back the Bay charity event, which also brought out Amy Smart, Ali Larter, and Julia-Louis Dreyfus. Julia wore a polka-dot Moschino jumpsuit to the fundraising gala, where she and her husband Danny were honored along with Amy for their leadership and environmental accomplishments. Amy's husband Carter Oosterhouse was on hand for support. Julia is coming off a busy few months that included promoting Mirror Mirror with costar Lily Collins and premiering Jesus Henry Christ with Michael Sheen. Julia was able to fit in family time, though, and took a Hawaiian vacation with her kids Hazel, Phinneaus, and Henry.

It was a family affair at the Jesus Henry Christ premiere in Hollywood last night. Coproducers and sisters Julia Roberts and Lisa Roberts Gillan were joined by their brother Eric's daughter, Emma Roberts, as they celebrated the debut of the dark comedy. Julia's husband Danny Moder also served as cinematographer on the project, though he didn't join the ladies for the evening out. The screening was held inside Mann's Chinese Theatre, where castmembers like Michael Sheen walked the carpet. He was without his girlfriend and former Midnight in Paris costar, Rachel McAdams, but looked dapper as he spoke proudly about the film solo. Jesus Henry Christ tells the story of a child prodigy who goes in search of his biological father, played by Michael. Julia was behind the camera this time around in her role as a producer, but she mentioned feeling a little nervous on the night of the film's debut anyway. Julia Roberts Flaunts Her Bikini Body on a Family Vacation

Julia Roberts wore a bikini over the weekend for a swim! She was off on a family vacation with her husband Danny Moder and their three children, Hazel, Phinnaeus, and Henry in Hawaii. The 44-year-old Mirror Mirror star treated herself to the family getaway during her children's Spring break. It also happened to coincide with the conclusion of her press duties for her Snow White picture, which hit theaters on March 30. Over the holiday, the movie came in fifth at the box office with just over $11 million.

There's more film work to come in Julia's future as well. She's signed on to star in A Normal Heart, another project with her Eat Pray Love director Ryan Murphy. Also, Julia will team up with Meryl Streep in the big-screen version of the hit play August: Osage County.

Mirror Mirror: Boring Boring

Mirror Mirror, the candy-colored vision of director Tarsem Singh, is the latest take on a classic fairy tale, with Lily Collins filling the shoes of Snow White and Julia Roberts as her nemesis, the wicked queen. But even with a solid cast and Singh's risk-taking aesthetic, the uneven script and undeveloped characters reduce it to a retread of an old story with a very pretty look. You know how it goes: the queen married Snow White's father, and after he dies, she sets about to get rid of anyone prettier than herself. That makes Snow White target No. 1, and when the girl is run out of the kingdom, she's forced to take shelter with a group of outlaw dwarves in the forest, becoming their caretaker of sorts. In this version, Snow White becomes their vigilante leader, while the perspective is largely from the wicked queen, who's trying to solve her financial problems by marrying rich Prince Alcott (the very dreamy Armie Hammer). While these twists are cute tweaks of the well-known tale, they don't make the story different enough, and the film drags on toward its obvious conclusion.

Singh is known for his bold, arresting aesthetic, like in films The Cell and Immortals, and he definitely has fun reimagining the setting of Snow White and her fairyland. It's clear that he's reining in the weirdness to give the film wider appeal, but some unusual elements sneak in there, like some creepy villainous puppets and a scene with the queen's downright gross beautifying routine. As polarizing as those scenes may be, the movie could have used some more weirdness, if only to give it a clearer angle. Sadly, the creativity is used up on the visuals, and the rest of the film suffers.
