4 Reasons I Want Justin Long's New Girl Character Over For Thanksgiving Dinner

Justin Long began his three-episode arc on New Girl this week as Paul, the music teacher and co-worker who joins Jess and her roommates for Thanksgiving dinner. Jess also has a huge crush on the guy, and I can't say I blame her; not only is Paul adorable, but he's also an awesome guest who would spice up any real-life Thanksgiving dinner with his quirky but charming ways. Check out the top four reasons I'd like Paul to make a guest appearance at my Thanksgiving dinner.

He provides musical entertainment. Paul not only performs in the Thanksgiving musical (playing the riveting role of a gourd) at the school where he and Jess work, but he also shows up at dinner armed with a violin. He's also willing to sing at the drop of a hat, joining Jess in one of her impromptu songs as soon as he walks through the door. If there's a better way to distract from the inevitable family tensions that arise at the dinner table, I'd like to hear it.
He knows how to hold his liquor. You won't have to worry about Paul overindulging in alcohol and making a drunken fool of himself - or your guests - at your Thanksgiving feast. He cuts himself off after two pumpkin ales, even though he's not even remotely tipsy. (Side note: How cute is it that his drink of choice is pumpkin ale?) Though he'll offer to run out to the store to pick up food for you, he makes the responsible choice of choosing not to get behind the wheel while doing it.
He values family. Jess invites Paul over for Thanksgiving dinner because the woman he usually spends the holiday with - his grandmother - has recently passed away. That doesn't stop Paul from talking about his Nana and how much she meant to him, reminiscing about how they used to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade together, and even pulling up a picture of her on his iPhone. But Paul's not self-centered; he'll take the time to ask you about your grandparents too, like he does with Winston.
He has a contingency plan when dinner is ruined. Jess and her friends have to ditch Thanksgiving dinner after they destroy their turkey by trying to defrost it in the dryer, and then they find an unappetizing surprise at their neighbor's place. But good ol' Paul pulls through by bringing them foot-long turkey subs. Could he be any sweeter?

New Girl is about to get into the holiday spirit, as Jess and the guys gear up for their first Thanksgiving and Christmas together. They won't be the only ones rockin' around the tree either: Justin Long makes an appearance in the Nov. 15 episode as Jess's crush, and the two look adorably cozy together. That said, these cute new pictures also hint that there could be something to Cece's theory about a spark between Nick and Jess. Check 'em out!

Scarlett Johansson Covers Up Following a Night of Music With Justin Long

Scarlett Johansson hustled out to her car last night following an Iron & Wine concert at LA's Wiltern Theater. Her companion for the evening was pal Justin Long, whom she got close to while working on He's Just Not That Into You a couple of years ago. It's another funny guy who's rumored to be keeping Scarlett company lately, as she was supposedly spotted out on a laughter-filled date with SNL's Jason Sudeikis. However, Scarlett's rep dismissed the whispers that she and Jason are more than platonic, and insisted that their hangout was, "just a friendly outing amongst friends." Scarlett has another male buddy in the area as well, since she's due to join Matt Damon on the set of We Bought a Zoo soon.

Movie Preview: James McAvoy in Robert Redford's The Conspirator

Bust out your stovepipe hat, because we're about to journey back to the time of Abraham Lincoln. Robert Redford's The Conspirator centers around the trials following the assassination of our 16th president, and in particular, the lone woman charged with taking part in his murder: Mary Surratt. Robin Wright plays the accused, while James McAvoy steps into the role of her lawyer. But perhaps Surratt was actually innocent? The film's trailer suggests that she was covering up for her guilty son in the ultimate act of motherly love.

Historical dramas often get a bum rap for being boring, but I'm already intrigued by this one. It looks like part courtroom drama, part thriller, with a stellar cast. Redford has pulled together a supporting ensemble featuring everyone under the sun, including Alexis Bledel, Evan Rachel Wood, Justin Long, Tom Wilkinson, and Kevin Kline. My only concern: Long's mustache. I'm sorry, but it's just ridiculous. Give it and the rest of the film a look after the jump.

GQ Toasts Men of the Year Like James, Taylor, Kellan, and More

GQ rounded up some of Hollywood's hottest men in LA last night to celebrate its annual Men of the Year issue. Taylor Lautner broke from hanging with his new lady friend to suit up for the black carpet along with James Franco, who mentioned that his mustache is for a new role. James Marsden looked dapper too, and he stopped to chat with us about how he'd nominate his wife for Babe of the Year. That honor has already gone to Scarlett Johansson, who you think deserves props for her look about as much as her Sexiest Man Alive husband, Ryan Reynolds. Scarlett and Ryan both skipped yesterday's party, but some other honorees from People's latest list turned out. Kellan Lutz covered his abs in a plaid Simon Spurr, and True Blood stud Joe Manganiello was likewise dressed up.

The fun continued inside the Chateau Marmont for some loved-up couples like Anna Faris and Chris Pratt, Channing Tatum and his wife, Jenna Dewan, and the recently married Dave Annable and Odette Yustman. Krysten Ritter celebrated wrapping up work with Kate Bosworth on BFF & Baby by saying hello to Sam Page, of Gossip Girl and Mad Men, while Aziz Ansari could hardly contain his enthusiasm at chilling with Jesse Eisenberg. Twilight's Taylor practiced his flirting with Jaime King, as Boardwalk Empire's Michael Pitt stuck by his costar Steve Buscemi. James Franco spent a minute chatting with Mark Ruffalo, who told us on the way in that he's thankful this year for being employed as a relatively older actor. Ryan Gosling brought a special lady, his mom, Donna, as his date to the second annual Governors Awards in LA on Saturday night. The birthday boy celebrated his 30th at Disneyland on Friday, and while he's had plenty of memorable onstage moments in the past, the evening was all about the honorees like Francis Ford Coppola and Eli Wallach. Sofia Coppola came out to support her dad alongside Natalie Portman in a gorgeous purple Lanvin gown, a Marchesa-wearing Hilary Swank, and Elle Fanning in Valentino. The ladies were joined by guests Stephen Dorff, who recently showed off his shirtless physique, Justin Long, and Josh Brolin, who stuck by his red-hot wife, Diane Lane.

Kristen and Dax's Kissing Cuddly Coffee Date With Justin Long

Dax Shepard squeezed his adorable fiancée, Kristen Bell, while out to coffee with their friend Justin Long in Studio City, CA, yesterday. She has been on location with John Krasinski and Drew Barrymore filming Everybody Loves Whales in Alaska, which may account for Kristen's afternoon of PDA with Dax. She'll be commuting home more in the coming month to promote Burlesque alongside that star-studded cast ahead of its Thanksgiving release. Dax, meanwhile, is more and more endearing every week on Parenthood and is trying to find a distributor for his directorial debut, Brother's Justice. Kristen fans would love to see her back on the small screen as well and are trying to land her a role in the upcoming reboot of The Munsters, though the first tongue-in-cheek scary role on her docket is her cameo in Scream 4.
