Kiefer Sutherland Talks About Coming Back to TV For New Drama Touch

It's Fox's turn today to show off its new shows at the Winter TCA, and the first panel featured a Fox alum we can't wait to see more of: Kiefer Sutherland. The star is headlining new drama Touch, as a man whose son has the ability to see hidden patterns that connect people all over the world. The mystical-sounding series is from Heroes creator Tim Kring, and he, Sutherland, and the other stars of the series talked about Sutherland's 24 legacy and what we can expect from Touch.

Sutherland insisted that though his new character is very different from Jack Bauer, he didn't choose Touch to distance himself from 24, but did call it a "a nice diversion" from the series. He said that when he first got a call about doing the show, he was performing in a play, and wasn't interested at first because he wanted more time apart from 24. When he read the script, though, "it spoke to me on a really profound level."
Sutherland's character Martin Bohm isn't like Jack Bauer, he says, and the focus is more about Martin being a father to his autistic, gifted son. But Sutherland does see a parallel between Bohm and Bauer: imperfection. "Jack Bauer was asked to save the day and there was always going to be casualties . . . it was never going to the perfect win." Of Bohm, he's "never going to have a perfect relationship with his son."
The other star of the show is David Mazouz, the young actor who plays Martin's son Jake (if you're a fan of The Office, you'll recognize him as Robert California's son). The character, who "sees" patterns through numbers and other sensations, has an acting challenge in that he doesn't actually talk. But Mazouz said, "I don't think Jake needs to speak, because he does communicate through his father, through his numbers." Executive producer Francis Lawrence praised Mazouz for his work on the character, saying, "David really worked on mannerisms, posture, the way he holds himself."
Sutherland assured reporters that his commitment to Touch doesn't preclude him from doing a 24 movie. He didn't have many details on the movie itself, but he did reveal that they'll hopefully begin shooting at the end of April or the beginning of May.

Melancholia Trailer: Kirsten Dunst and Alexander Skarsgard Marry, Worry About the Earth's Destruction

Director Lars von Trier is known for his unusual and visceral aesthetic, like in 2009's Antichrist, and his upcoming film, Melancholia, looks to offer more of the same. Kirsten Dunst stars as Justine, a woman who's already questioning her happiness on her wedding day to her handsome new husband (Alexander Skarsgard). She's also clashing with her sister Claire, played by Charlotte Gainsbourg, while Kiefer Sutherland makes a rare film appearance as Claire's prickly husband. The relationships would be enough for a rich psychological drama, but there's actually an, um, disaster angle.

Another planet has just emerged from behind the Sun and is on an apparent collision course with Earth, making the principal characters understandably anxious. It's a strange combination of genres (think Margot at the Wedding meets Armageddon), but there's no denying that the bit we get to see in the preview is stunningly photographed. Kiefer Sutherland stripped down to a skimpy swimsuit to sunbathe next to his bikini-clad girlfriend, Siobhan Bonnouvrier, in Portofino, Italy over the weekend. The two covered up to hit the town for shopping, but most of the time it was all about their sexy skin. The 24 star took a dip and showed off his shirtless physique; he's too late for this year's bracket, but do you think he'd have a place in the Elite Eight? Kiefer's relaxing vacation comes after he spent the past month elsewhere in Europe filming Meloncholia with Kirsten Dunst and Alexander Skarsgard. Kiefer said goodbye to Jack Bauer earlier this year and it looks like he's taking advantage of his downtime with a romantic vacation alongside his lady.

The afterparty fun following last night's Costume Institute Gala continued on, with even more celebs heading over to the main bash at the Mark hotel. Diane Kruger traded her long-sleeved white Calvin Klein gown for a short red number to attend with Joshua Jackson. She evidently hopes that soon he'll be more than a boyfriend - when a reporter asked if a ring she was wearing signified an engagement, Diane said, "I wish." Anne Hathaway also changed out of her Valentino dress for something more manageable, though Emma Watson kept on her long Burberry. She's out on the social scene despite being in the middle of exams at Brown. Emma said, "I have just had one of my exams. It went pretty well, which is good, two left.” Bar Refaeli, meanwhile, brought her girlfriends and not Leonardo DiCaprio along.

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale stuck together, and Robert Pattinson's Remember Me costar, Emilie de Ravin, was surrounded by pals. Glee's Matthew Morrison headed to the Standard with Emmy Rossum hot on his heels, though once inside he was busy getting down with model Natasha Poly. Alexander Wang stayed close to Zoe Kravitz after they posed together on the red carpet, and Jessica Alba brought her husband Cash Warren. Naomi Campbell was all smiles in her fancy car after her episode on Oprah aired earlier in the day exploring her dark side. Movie Preview: Chace Crawford in Twelve

I finished off my time at this year's Sundance Film Festival with a screening of Joel Schumacher's Twelve. The film, which puts Chace Crawford in his first leading movie role as a teenage drug dealer in NYC, is based on the novel by Nick McDonnell (who was 17 when he wrote it). Basically, the movie plays out like an even more scandalous version of Gossip Girl - tons of pretty young teens with way too much of their parents' money and not enough things to do. Except this time around, Nate Archibald is the drug dealer, Kiefer Sutherland takes on the part of Gossip Girl, and Serena and Blair replaced with equally doe-eyed doppelgangers. Oh yeah, 50 cent is there too.

It definitely wasn't my favorite of the festival - in some ways I felt like it was trying to capture a similar spirit to The Wackness but fell flat. On the other hand, audiences cant get enough of watching rich kids behaving badly. To see for yourself, just
