Oscar Worthy Gadgets: Cameras in Blood Diamond

In Blood Diamond Academy Award-winner Jennifer Connelly plays Maddy Bowen, an American journalist who gets caught up in the story of two men, played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Djimon Hounsou, in search of a rare pink diamond. The film is set in 1990's Sierra Leone and filled with civil war and conflict, which Connelly's character captures on a fancy Leica camera.

According to camera fans, Connelly's character uses an M6 Classic and a 35mm Summicron. However, the sound director dubbed an SLR sound whenever Connelly took a photo. For more Blood Diamond photos - Leo has an awesome watch!- and another filming goof,

Filming goof: An arrival scene at Cape Town International Airport shows yellow posters in the background advertising 3G video cellphones. 3G technology was not available when the story was set.

My first celebrity crush and Oscar nominee Leo DiCaprio will be rocking the trendy Samsung Black Carbon Phone this Sunday at the awards ceremony, reports People. The Black Carbon cell is part of Samsung’s Ultra Edition line and said to be one of the "thinnest, slimmest sliders in the world."

The Blood Diamond star stopped by Kitson Men on Jan. 29th to pick up the slider phone which retails for $420, says People. We missed Leo, but got some photos of the same event. Love the Black Carbon as much as Leo?

Leonardo DiCaprio was spotted on the New Orleans set of Django Unchained yesterday. He puffed on an electronic cigarette between takes and showed off his grown-out facial hair. He's been filming the Quentin Tarantino project since March and we've already seen pictures of Leonardo in character as Calvin Candie, alongside his costars Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz. Last month, Leo, Jamie, and Christoph joined leading lady Kerry Washington in Cancun for Sony's annual Spring junket to promote the movie. Production kept Leo from another important obligation though, since he was unable to attend the London premiere of Titanic 3D with Kate Winslet. He did, however, make time to play uncle to Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Meyer's daughter Ruby in NYC.

Leonardo DiCaprio headed down to Cancun over the weekend for Sony's annual Spring junket, with this year's version dubbed "Summer of Sony 4 Spring Edition." The company takes advantage of a chance to show off their upcoming crop of films, which includes Leo's Django Unchained from director Quentin Tarantino. Quentin and Leo were side by side for yesterday's photocall, as were DiCaprio's costars Kerry Washington, Jamie Foxx, and Christoph Waltz. Django is a reunion for Christoph and Quentin, who worked together on 2009's Inglourious Basterds. Leo and the gang have been shooting the movie back in America. Production on the picture meant that Leo missed out on promoting his other big-screen project, the rerelease of Titanic in 3D.

Tobey Maguire and His Daughter Have a Date in the Park

Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Meyer held Jennifer's daughter Ruby's hands as they left lunch in NYC yesterday. Tobey Maguire, meanwhile, was nearby running errands. Leo and Tobey have been good friends for years, and recently shot The Great Gatsby together in Australia. They've wrapped filming on the movie adaptation of the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald book, and Leo has since started working on Django Unchained in New Orleans. Leo's latest project kept him away from the London premiere of Titanic 3D with costar and pal Kate Winslet last month. Kate and Leo have had many memorable moments since they first met making the James Cameron film in the '90s, and their big-screen chemistry continued this weekend when Titanic 3D opened with $17.3 million at the box office.
