It's Official: Madonna Announces Huge New Contract

Madonna continued her non-tracksuit trend yesterday in LA where she was spotted between meetings with pal and co-manager Guy Oseary. Today Madonna made the big announcement that she is officially leaving Warner Brothers for Live Nation, in a deal that will make her over $100 million. She said:

"The paradigm in the music business has shifted and as an artist and a business woman, I have to move with that shift. For the first time in my career, the way that my music can reach my fans is unlimited. I've never wanted to think in a limited way and with this new partnership, the possibilities are endless. Who knows how my albums will be distributed in the future? That's what's exciting about this deal -- everything is possible. Live Nation has offered me a true partnership and after 25 years in the business, I feel that I deserve that."

Madonna definitely knows how to stay ahead of the trends and it's worked pretty well for her so far in music - and business. Well done, Madonna! More of Madonna so read more

Madonna Leaves WB for $120 Mil. Live Nation Deal

Madonna looked typically hyperfit decked out in her tracksuit, vitamin water and Bose headphones leaving the gym in New York yesterday afternoon. While London has been her home for some time, Manhattan will always be quintessentially Madonna and yesterday NYC was the locale for starting a new chapter in her career. Madge is reportedly in the works to leave Warner Brothers, her record label for the past 25 years and sign a ten year $120 million recording/touring/merchandising deal with Live Nation, which up until now primarily promotes live events. Good for Madonna, especially since she's hurting for cash these days, ah, kidding. It's not like Madonna makes many bad career decisions, so hopefully this will just mean more from the queen of pop for years to come.

Angelina Jolie Visits Refugee Camps in Thailand, Issues Plea

After bringing the whole family to Japan last week, Angelina took a detour before heading home. As part of her UNHCR United Nations Human Rights work, she traveled to Thailand to pay a visit to the camps filled with Myanmar refugees, some who have been there for their entire lives. Angelina sat down to talk to refugees, including teenage girls and young women very scared about what their future holds. Today Angelina released a plea to the government of Thailand to allow the refugees the ability to leave camps and move more freely in the area. She said of the people she met,

"I was saddened to meet a 21-year-old woman who was born in a refugee camp, who has never even been out of the camp and is now raising her own child in a camp . . . With no foreseeable chance that these refugees will soon be able to return to Burma (Myanmar), we must find some way to help them work and become self reliant."

There are currently 110,000 registered refugees in the nine camps, and at this point, they are not allowed to leave the camps. This is about as far away as you can get - in so many ways - from the Oscar red carpet she'll be walking in just a few weeks, but from Angelina Jolie we expect nothing less and know her real passion lies in her UN work.
