Ponytails Get Glamorous on the Cannes Red Carpet

The chicest hairstyle to hit the red carpet in Cannes is also one of the simplest. Ponytails are getting glamorous at the film festival, with stars such as Diane Kruger and Freida Pinto showcasing decidedly elegant versions of the classic style. We're guessing a few more posh ponytails will debut before the festival wraps up, but in the meantime, get inspiration for your own next-level style.

Marion Cotillard Talks Rust and Bone and Loving Her Baby Son Marcel

Marion Cotillard is at Cannes this week chatting up her latest movie Rust and Bone. She wore Dior last night for the red carpet premiere of the film, and posed alongside costars Matthias Schoenaerts, young actor Armand Verdure, and director Jacques Audiard. The picture is ready for audiences after Marion and Matthias worked on it together last Fall in the South of France. Marion plays Stéphanie in the film, a killer-whale trainer whose life is changed after a tragic accident. So far, the Rust and Bone reviews are positive.

We caught up with the actress today at a press event this morning. Marion chatted about getting into the mindset to play Stéphanie, as well as about her career. She also touched on how life is different now that she's a mom to 1-year-old Marcel, and whether or not she consults with her husband, director and actor Guillaume Canet, before making a big career decision. Marion also gushed about her Inception and Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan. She said:

On motherhood changing her approach to work: "When I am in the character, it's completely the character. But usually when I work, I create this environment - especially that most of the time I am out of Paris and France - so I can create a new apartment in a new house or a hotel room. I can create a special environment that I need. I will entirely go back to myself when the movie is finished . . . [but during production] someone is sharing my body and is there most of the time. With my son it's impossible to take someone else home . . . There is this human being that I love more than anything, and who needs me."
On consulting with Guillaume before accepting a role: "It's usually all for myself. If I need advice, I will obviously ask the people I love and the people I trust. Usually, I create my own little world and deal with it."
On it being easier to act in French: "To play in French is definitely less demanding than playing in English with Polish accent or Italian or even French accent. Simply because I don't have to think about how I say the words. I don't have to think about, 'Does it sound French?' Because it will obviously sound French! But I love working in English. It's very, very interesting."
On being tough like her character, Stéphanie: "I definitely have strength . . . it would be a long conversation on how strength is manifested in yourself, but there's very few things that - actually I don't think there's one thing I could think about that could put me down."
On working with Christopher Nolan: "I really love this guy. He's so, so smart. He is such an amazing director and author. It's very rare to work with a director in Hollywood, especially on big, big movies like Batman, who not only directs the movie but writes the script. It's very, very unusual . . . It's massive, but it's also very, very intimate. I love this about him. He loves real things, real connections, real feelings."
On using her celebrity to spread awareness about the environment: "If you manage to spread what you think - because you think what you think is right - it's a beautiful thing to meet people who are not aware. Because there are still people who are not aware of what we are going through and what the world is going through. It's a good thing to share, and to change, step by step."

Marion Cotillard and Eva Longoria Hit the Carpet in Cannes

It's only the second day of the Cannes Film Festival, and we've already seen plenty of stars including Diane Kruger, Jessica Chastain, and Alec Baldwin. Today's premiere of Rust and Bone brought out the film's leading lady, Marion Cotillard, as well as castmembers Matthias Schoenaerts and young Armand Verdure. Marion looked glamorous in a black Christian Dior Couture ball gown after stepping out earlier in the afternoon in a pink dress for a photocall. Eva Longoria, who is attending the festival on behalf of L'Oréal, was also on hand this evening in a sexy white Emilio Pucci following a rooftop photo shoot this morning. Jane Fonda and Freida Pinto rounded out the fashionable red carpet, which is just one of many to come. Marion Cotillard Greets Cannes For Rust and Bone

Marion Cotillard stood beside her handsome costar Matthias Schoenaerts at the press conference and photocall for De Rouille et d'Os (Rust and Bone) at the Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France, today. Marion actually filmed the movie, which has her playing a whale trainer, nearby in France. We saw Marion stripped down for intense water scenes for the movie back when they shot it last Fall. Cannes is just the first stop on a crazy Summer ahead for Marion as she promotes The Dark Knight Rises. That promotional tour will kick into high gear soon, but for now she's focusing on this project in the glamorous location. Marion Cotillard Has a City Weekend With Baby Marcel

Marion Cotillard spent Friday with her son Marcel Canet out and about in NYC. She was back to work on Saturday, though, doing a shoot in the West Village neighborhood. Baby Marcel is nearly 1 year old! The little guy turns on May 19, which is sure to be a big day for Marion and her fiancé Guillaume Canet.

Marion and her son have been all over the globe in recent months, as they travel from their home base in Paris for work. Marion went to Pittsburgh and beyond to shoot The Dark Knight Rises with Christopher Nolan and a cast that included Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway - check out the latest Dark Knight Rises trailer ahead of the blockbuster's July 20 release! She spent time during the Winter in Manhattan, working on an untitled project with director James Gray and costar Joaquin Phoenix. Later, Marion and Marcel moved on to Nice, France, for another picture. Marion's current project is Blood Ties, which her Guillaume is directing. Guillaume is behind the lens shooting Marion as well as Mila Kunis, Zoe Saldana, and Clive Owen.

New Trailer For The Dark Knight Rises: 5 Things to Get Excited About

The third (and most likely final) trailer for The Dark Knight Rises is here, and it's just as eerie as the first two. However, there's a lot of new footage here and plenty of new clues about what we're in for when the film hits theaters July 20. Here are the top five reasons we're excited about the latest preview:

Joseph Gordon-Levitt does, in fact, speak in this movie. We're still not entirely sure about JGL's role in this film, other than the fact that he'll play a cop, but at least now we see more of him in action. This is the first time we've heard any of his lines, and it appears that he'll be one of the good guys - and maybe even in cahoots with Anne Hathaway's Selina Kyle. Which brings me to my next point . . .
Catwoman might not be a villain. We've all assumed that Selina would be another nemesis for Batman (Christian Bale), but now it appears that she might be a new sidekick instead. Not only does she seem sympathetic to Bruce Wayne, but she voluntarily gets in the batmobile. Perhaps we were a little too quick to accuse her of grand theft batpod.
The batmobile takes flight. That's right - Batman's ride has always been pretty badass, but now it can actually fly!
Bane (Tom Hardy) might be understandable after all. Granted, he doesn't speak too much in this preview, but I still found him to be a lot easier to understand in this trailer than he's been in the past.
Bruce Wayne and Miranda Tate lock lips. Bye bye Maggie Gyllenhaal, hello Marion Cotillard. Cotillard's Miranda still doesn't have any lines in this preview, but we do see her and Bruce in a pretty serious embrace. I'm grateful for a bit of lightness in the midst of all this terrorism, but it does raise a new question - if Selina isn't a villain, might we have a love triangle on our hands?

Marion Cotillard Heads West With Adorable Baby Marcel

Marion Cotillard returned to LA yesterday with her son Marcel Canet. The duo just logged a few weeks in NYC, where Marion shot a movie with director James Gray and costar Joaquin Phoenix. There is more work planned in the future for Marion and James. Marion will star in Blood Ties, which was written by James and her fiancé Guillaume Canet. Clive Owen, Billy Crudup, Mila Kunis, and Zoe Saldana also have parts in the '70s era crime thriller. Marion has an additional starring role in a new Dior campaign. The Lady Dior ad with Marion Cotillard is out, showing the actress looking gorgeous in a white dress at Paris's Communist Party headquarters.

Marion Cotillard wrapped her son, Marcel, in her coat while walking around NYC yesterday. She got a visit from the little guy on the set of her untitled James Gray project. Marcel has been frequently spotted around the Big Apple, since he and dad Guillaume Canet also stepped out with Marion last month. When Marion isn't hanging with her main men, she's been acting opposite Joaquin Phoenix on the film. It's just one of Marion's many projects this year, including Rust & Bone and her Summer release, The Dark Knight Rises. Before she starts promoting the superhero action movie, though, Marion will have Marcel's first birthday to celebrate in May.

Marion Works With Joaquin, Then Hits the Streets With Guillaume and Marcel

Marion Cotillard got to work in NYC on Friday on a new movie with Joaquin Phoenix. The two actors are under the direction of James Gray, who worked with Joaquin and Gwyneth Paltrow on the 2008 film Two Lovers. This picture, which takes place in the 1920s, doesn't yet have a title. Marion stars as an immigrant to the US, who's tricked by Joaquin's character into a life of vaudeville. Jeremy Renner also has a part in the production. This is one of Joaquin's first roles since he took a break from acting following the release of I'm Still Here. He's also starring in Paul Thomas Anderson's pseudo-Scientology movie, The Master.

It seems Marion had yesterday off, though, to spend time out and about with her boyfriend Guillaume Canet and their young son Marcel. The trio bundled up to take a stroll around their temporary home base. The Canet-Cotillard clan was last in Paris, where Marion and Guillaume attended a César event. The Césars, France's most prestigious award show, takes place back in Paris on Feb. 24 with Guillaume serving as host.

Marion Cotillard got fancy in Dior for a dinner last night at Paris's Le Meurice hotel. The evening was organized in support of France's César Awards, their equivalent of the Oscars, and in particular their Most Promising Young Actor category. It was a rare night out for Marion alongside her boyfriend Guillaume Canet, who is the father of her young son Marcel.

Guillaume, who won a César in 2010 for directing Tell No One, will actually host the 2012 ceremony on Feb. 24. He was also crowned Most Promising Young Actor back in 1998. Marion, meanwhile, has two Césars of her own, one for A Very Long Engagement and another for La Vie en Rose, which also earned her an Academy Award.
