Marion Works With Joaquin, Then Hits the Streets With Guillaume and Marcel

Marion Cotillard got to work in NYC on Friday on a new movie with Joaquin Phoenix. The two actors are under the direction of James Gray, who worked with Joaquin and Gwyneth Paltrow on the 2008 film Two Lovers. This picture, which takes place in the 1920s, doesn't yet have a title. Marion stars as an immigrant to the US, who's tricked by Joaquin's character into a life of vaudeville. Jeremy Renner also has a part in the production. This is one of Joaquin's first roles since he took a break from acting following the release of I'm Still Here. He's also starring in Paul Thomas Anderson's pseudo-Scientology movie, The Master.

It seems Marion had yesterday off, though, to spend time out and about with her boyfriend Guillaume Canet and their young son Marcel. The trio bundled up to take a stroll around their temporary home base. The Canet-Cotillard clan was last in Paris, where Marion and Guillaume attended a César event. The Césars, France's most prestigious award show, takes place back in Paris on Feb. 24 with Guillaume serving as host.

Marion Cotillard got fancy in Dior for a dinner last night at Paris's Le Meurice hotel. The evening was organized in support of France's César Awards, their equivalent of the Oscars, and in particular their Most Promising Young Actor category. It was a rare night out for Marion alongside her boyfriend Guillaume Canet, who is the father of her young son Marcel.

Guillaume, who won a César in 2010 for directing Tell No One, will actually host the 2012 ceremony on Feb. 24. He was also crowned Most Promising Young Actor back in 1998. Marion, meanwhile, has two Césars of her own, one for A Very Long Engagement and another for La Vie en Rose, which also earned her an Academy Award.

Marion Cotillard bundled up for a walk around NYC with her son Marcel yesterday. The actress and 5-month-old Marcel checked out the children's store Les Petits Chapelais in SoHo and later met up with a friend. Marion and Marcel landed on the East Coast last week after a stay in France, where the busy mom filmed Rust and Bone. Marion went topless for a dramatic scene in the water and also tried her hand at training killer whales during her stay overseas. It was the second round of production for the actress, who also worked on The Dark Knight Rises this Summer. She reported to the action-packed set just weeks after giving birth to Marcel in May, and we'll get to see her post-baby appearance on the big screen next July.

Once Marion got her little guy settled in the backseat, she helped keep him happy by entertaining him with some of his toys. The mother and son often travel together, and when they're not jetting around, have been spending the bulk of their time in France. She's been busy shooting her latest film, Rust and Bone, in and around Antibes. Marion even went topless during a recent day on the set of the movie, in which she stars a killer-whale trainer. The role is the latest for Marion following her part in the upcoming Dark Knight Rises. She got to work on the action-heavy film just a few short months after welcoming Marcel to the world in May, and was spotted with costars including Christian Bale and Tom Hardy working on a battle scene in Pittsburgh over the Summer.

She went topless to film a scene in the water with her costar Matthias Schoenaerts after the duo prepped on the beach. Marion arrived in the South of France last week and she brought her son, Marcel, along to the location. The 4-month-old stayed behind for a recent day of prep in Antibes, though, where Marion practiced her killer-whale training skills at Marineland. Her son has been traveling with her since his birth in May, and they've stopped in LA and NYC as well as in Marion's hometown of Paris.

Marion Cotillard was in plaid last night to stop by The Daily Show's NYC studios. She's out talking up her new movie after attending Contagion's NYC premiere Wednesday. So far, the Contagion reviews are great, and the Steven Soderbergh picture could give three-weeks-running box office champ The Help some serious competition. As Marion arrived on stage to chat with Jon Stewart, she joked about the germaphobe nature of her movie by not shaking his hand and only offering air kisses. She went on to talk about how making the film made her paranoid about germs, especially because she was pregnant. The conversation took a lighter turn, though, when she revealed her love of comedies and said that Will Ferrell, "is my god!"
