Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were together in LA last night to celebrate the release of NYT columnist Nicholas Kristof's new book Half the Sky. Nicholas is no stranger to a celebrity endorsement, especially after his work alongside George Clooney. It was a rare evening out for Brad and Angelina, who have been battling their latest rumors of trouble as she gears up for a new role and he tools around on his motorcycle.

Matt Damon brought The People Speak, his upcoming documentary airing on the History Channel, to the Summer TCAs in Pasadena yesterday. Matt co-executive produced the project based on Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States, which also got a famous shout out in Damon's Good Will Hunting. At the panel, Matt talked about reading the Declaration of Independence in the film, calling it an "incredible document" which we should all revisit every year.

Omnipeace's "Stamp Out Violence" event at STK drew a star-studded crowd including BFFs Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, and Sheryl Crow, along with Twilight's Ashley Greene. The women spoke about the charity's fight to end violence against women in the Congo, and a pregnant Nicole Richie said, "I'm all about making people aware and showing them what the problem is. It's impossible to turn your back on something like this."

A very tan and still blonde Matt Damon has been busy filming The Human Factor in South Africa but he took time off to celebrate the grand opening of the luxurious One and Only Resort in Cape Town. While it's rare to see Matt and Mariah Carey at the same event, the crowd was an interesting mix of celebs. Clint Eastwood, who is currently directing Matt, was there along with Thandie Newton, Marisa Tomei and Robert De Niro.

Mandy Moore stood out against a sea of black and white with her red dress and bright smile at the Latisse launch party in LA last night. Brooke Shields, Marisa Tomei, and Angie Harmon — get her look now — all came out to support the event benefiting the Make-A-Wish foundation. Unfortunately, at the party Brooke admitted Lipstick Jungle is really canceled.

After the big show in the Kodak Theater, the first stop for many of the attendees was the Governors Ball. Along with attending this year's Oscars via the red carpet and the press room, we were fortunate enough to have a ticket to the fancy affair. While on the inside we watched the celebrities feast on their Wolfgang Puck meal set in the Asian-themed room decor.

Charlize Theron joined forces with Diane Lane and Josh Brolin in LA on Thursday night for the launch of the BRANDAID Foundation, which will send money to support Haitian artists. Current Oscar nominee Josh struck a few poses with past winner Charlize, while two of the Best Supporting Actress Nominees, Taraji P. Henson and Marisa Tomei, posed for photos and made their way around the room.

Ben Affleck took the stage at the Children Mending Hearts Gala at the House of Blues in LA last night to present the year's humanitarian award to Anderson Cooper. Before handing the mic over to Cooper, Ben spoke about the Congo, a cause close to his heart and about which he wrote for Time magazine this week. When Ben stepped off the stage, he found a special surprise waiting back at his seat — Jennifer Garner snuck in to watch him and give him kisses at the table before ducking out 20 minutes later.

The 2009 Oscar nominees got to mix and mingle with their competition at the annual luncheon thrown in their honor in Beverly Hills earlier today. Brad and Angelina sat this one out, but Kate Winslet, Penelope Cruz, Robert Downey Jr., and lots of others were happy to come out and pose in front of the the big golden statue. Anne Hathaway revealed that her big date to the event will be her dad, and she is even hoping to score extra tickets for her mother and brother.

This weekend award season kept on rolling and this time it was all about the directors. Slumdog Millionaire continued its winning streak as Danny Boyle received the night's top honor for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film at the Directors Guild Awards in LA. This honor helps the movie secure its Oscar worthy odds in a few weeks.
