Steven Spielberg's War Horse Premiere Brings Out Hot British Stars - and an Olsen!

Steven Spielberg gathered the stars of his War Horse outside NYC's Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center for their premiere yesterday. The cast was fresh off a weekend-long junket to promote the movie, which was based on a play adapted from author Michael Morpurgo's 1982 book. We had a chance to speak with the picture's star, newcomer Jeremy Irvine on Saturday. Jeremy said that Steven surprised him with the role in a unique way - at a follow-up audition, Jeremy read a piece of sample dialogue that said he'd gotten the part! We also caught up with some of the movie's dashing British male stars like Tom Hiddleston, Toby Kebbell, and Patrick Kennedy, so stay tuned for those interviews close to the movie's Dec. 25 release date. Elizabeth Olsen and Ed Westwick, while not in Steven's latest offering, still came out to show their support. She headed inside the theater for the screening, and threw an arm around in-demand Avengers star Tom Hiddleston for a photo op.

In the post, David talked about his recent collaboration with Mariska Hargitay and the team at her Joyful Heart Foundation, in which he designed the décor of the foundation's annual fundraising gala in New York City. When Décor Tells a Real Story

Of course, I am attracted to beauty. I am really thrilled, though, when design is infused with emotion and genuine meaning. Case in point, recently we collaborated with Mariska Hargitay and the whole dream team at her Joyful Heart Foundation to bring the purpose of the foundation’s work to life in the décor of their annual fundraising gala in New York City. That’s not an easy task when the mission of the organization is "to heal, educate and empower survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse and shed lightness into the darkness that surrounds these issues."

How did we do it? We started by crafting a mantra for the night: “How Will You Join The Joyful Revolution” became our drum beat, looking to what each of us has done in the year prior to “collaboratively end the cycle of violence and abuse,” and we created sculptures for each of the dining tables that were poignant metaphors. All stemming from journals on whose pages the horrors, joys, reliefs and anxieties of the victims of abuse were symbolically spelled out, the sculptures walked the line between being sensitively gorgeous and emotionally charged. Within each sculpture, a varying answer to “How Will You Join . . . “ was written in the open diary. With responses like, “I listened,” “I sang a song,” “I spoke up,” “I held her hand,” the visuals became emotionally charged poetry.

One of the pieces I am most proud of, we created a giant, three dimensional heart out of rape kit boxes to shine the spotlight on the horror of the rape kit backlog, an epidemic where untested evidence leaves thousands of rape cases unsolved. On first glance, this is a cool, pixelated heart, but on second glance . . .

That is the line that I always want our decorative work to walk. I want the double take. The beauty draws you in, but it is the meaning that you leave within your mind and heart. Thank you to my friends at the Joyful Heart Foundation for the important work they do and for the opportunity and creative challenge to be part of it. How did we join? We made art.

Mariska Hargitay Steps Out With Her New Baby Girl, Amaya!

Mariska Hargitay and her husband, Peter Hermann, left their NYC apartment building with their son, August, yesterday. They were also joined by the newest member of the family, 1-week-old Amaya Josephine! Mariska and Peter just shared the exciting news about adopting their daughter and the fun they had naming her. Mariska said, "I'm deliriously happy. From the minute she was born, she was just surprisingly alert and so full of love. We all talked about names because everything is a family decision in our house." The Law & Order: SVU actress recently stepped out with Peter at the Mildred Pierce premiere before welcoming their baby girl.

Kate Winslet Happily Leads the Way at Her Mildred Pierce Premiere

Kate Winslet was in a half-sheer Stella McCartney number yesterday for the NYC debut of her new HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce. Other members of the network's family, like Boardwalk Empire's Steve Buscemi and How to Make It in America's Bryan Greenberg, came out to show their support. Kate also had her costars on hand, including her fellow Oscar-winner Melissa Leo, a fresh-from-Michigan Evan Rachel Wood, and Guy Pearce. The two Academy Award honorees worked on their small-screen project before The Fighter actress clinched her prize, and Melissa even said her expletive-laced acceptance speech was inspired by Kate!

Last night, though, there was even more love flowing from the costars to leading lady Kate as many commented on her great attitude on the New York set last year. Evan referred to Kate as "my favorite actress hands down" before revealing the nickname she's been given by her The Ides of March director George Clooney, who apparently calls her Schnoz! Kate, meanwhile, shared her secret to both doing long hours and having a sunny attitude. She said, "You just have to do it! You have to team lead and you have to just plow on through. The thing is as well, when you're playing a character who is so present on the set, everyone sort of leads by example. I knew I had to be a leader in that sense . . . it helps everybody. You all want to enjoy your work and do the best job that you can. When the leading actor is being effervescent and positive, I think it makes a big difference to the atmosphere. But I'm always like that! Or I try to be!"

Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon Join Forces to Honor Alec Baldwin

Tina Fey, Jimmy Fallon, Ben Stiller, and more celebrities were on hand for the Museum of the Moving Image's salute to Alec Baldwin last night in Manhattan. Jimmy shared some of his favorite memories of the 2010 30 Rock star and former Oscars host during the event. Alec's involvement with this year's Academy Awards, though, was limited to a special appearance with emcees Anne Hathaway and James Franco at the start of Sunday's big show. Alec's prerecorded segment meant he could be toasted by his famous, funny friends yesterday in NYC, though James was on a flight east directly after the awards so that he could be on time for his grad school classes this week.

Who Should Win the Emmy For Best Lead Actress, Drama?

You've been weighing in on who should win Emmy honors, and I've been loving your arguments! Now that the lead guys have had their turn in my Emmy breakdowns, it's time to sound off on some of the leading female contenders (Friday Night Lights fans, I'm sure you'll want to chime in!). This year brings in new blood, as Mad Men's January Jones and Friday Night Lights star Connie Britton both enter the competition for the first time. They'll be up against Emmy vets, including Mariska Hargitay of Law & Order: SVU, who is up for her seventh nomination (though she's only won once), and Kyra Sedgwick of The Closer, who is making her fifth attempt. Plus, we've got defending champ from the past two years Glenn Close of Damages. Early predictions name Julianna Margulies as a possible front-runner, and although it's her first nod for The Good Wife, she's no stranger to Emmy, having earned six nominations while on ER.

Mariska Hargitay Keeps It Clean

Here are two awesome reasons to like actress Mariska Hargitay: she's completely happy with her body and is the founder of the Joyful Heart Foundation - an organization that provides support to survivors of sexual assault, child abuse, and domestic violence. Besides her acting gig on Law & Order: SVU, Mariska also has another full-time job as mother to August, her 3-year-old son. Despite a crazy schedule, the star manages to always keep her energy up, which she tells Health magazine is due in part to detoxing.

To stay awake and alert, Mariska follows the program laid out in Clean: The Revolutionary Program to Restore the Body's Natural Ability to Heal Itself. Written by detoxing expert Dr. Alejandro Junger, MD, Clean puts forth the argument that so many of our ailments (including low energy) are due to toxin build-up in our bodies. Dr. Junger's three-week cleanse promises to "reactivate our detoxification system to its fullest capabilities." Besides Mariska, stars like Gwyneth Paltrow have also followed Dr. Junger's program, which comes with a hefty $350 price tag. The cleanse consists of one solid meal comprised of whole, organic foods and two meal-replacement shakes per day, along with a variety of pill supplements.

At the time of the interview, Mariska had just finished the 21-day cleanse with one little hiccup. When her neighbor, chef Ina Garten, invited her to dinner, Mariska went and ate wholeheartedly. While stars like Mariska and Gwyneth are obvious fans of the Clean program, the jury is still out on the validity of cleansing. I for one don't think I want to give up solid food for such a long time. How about you?

The afterparty fun kicked off in LA last night with Vanity Fair's post-Oscars party - make sure to check out the star-studded arrivals! The Sunset Towers hosted celebs who attended the show and those who didn't, like Victoria Beckham and Jessica Simpson, who chatted with Heidi Klum. Sandra Bullock clutched her Academy Award, and her The Blind Side costar Quinton Aaron posed with Rachel McAdams. Kathryn Bigelow and Jeremy Renner looked thrilled to bring out their The Hurt Locker gold, and fellow winner Jeff Bridges smiled alongside fellow Crazy Heart actor Maggie Gyllenhaal. Cameron Diaz changed out of her red carpet dress and into something shorter as she chatted with Jason Segel, and elsewhere Sean Penn shared a drink with Kid Rock.

Kristen Stewart, meanwhile, chatted away alongside Anjelica Huston, as Inglourious Basterds' Eli Roth cuddled up to his apparently new lady, Peaches Geldof. Rachel McAdams' ex Josh Lucas gave some bunny ears to Sam Worthington and Carey Mulligan, while happy couples like Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens and Russell Brand and Katy Perry only had eyes for each other. Natalie Portman stopped to say hi to her Black Swan costar Mila Kunis' boyfriend Macaulay Culkin, following his touching tribute to John Hughes. Lovely ladies like Kate Beckinsale and Anna Kendrick kept the fashionable times going, as the VF bash got a long night of partying in LA under way.
