Matilda Ledger: Disney Needs Affirmative Action For Princes

OK, the 5-year-old daughter of Michelle Williams and the late Heath Ledger did not say that per se, but she did ask a Disney employee one pointed question during a trip to Disney World. In the February issue of Marie Claire, Michelle tells a sweet story about her daughter, an avid consumer of the controversial princess culture like all little girls.

"I took Matilda to Disney World recently and we saw all the princesses, and then she turned around and said, 'OK, now I'd like to see where all the princes are.' The Disney person said, 'Nobody has ever asked me that before. There aren't any princes here, honey.'"

I never thought of that, yet it seems so obvious. And when you think about it - don't all Disney princes kind of seem like the same generic guy? Disney clearly knows its audience. Next time, Matilda, to really shake things up, ask Disney where the overweight princesses are!

Dawson's Creek costars and best friends Michelle Williams and Busy Philipps brought their daughters, Matilda and Birdie, out for brunch in LA on Saturday. The actresses met on the set of the TV show and have remained close, with Michelle even asking Busy to be Matilda's godmother. Four-year-old Matilda and 2-year-old Birdie are carrying on the tradition already as they playfully swung in the air and climbed around during their trip to pick up flowers at the supermarket. Michelle has been out promoting Blue Valentine, and at an event on Thursday she revealed that Busy was her moral support during difficult parts of filming. Busy also attended Michelle's LA screening hosted by Matilda's other godparent, Jake Gyllenhaal, and the intense role just earned both Williams and Ryan Gosling Critics' Choice Awards nominations. The Cougar Town star still has high hopes that Williams will find a way to guest star on the series, and we'd love to see Michelle show off her comedy skills too.

Michelle Williams broke from working on Take This Waltz in Toronto over the weekend to enjoy downtime with friends. After meeting up with a pal for coffee, she enjoyed a scenic walk with her daughter, Matilda. Yesterday, Michelle reunited with her Blue Valentine costar Ryan Gosling for a photo shoot in his home country. He looked dapper in a leather jacket and tight tee, though Ryan didn't show off his legendary muscles - he did reveal, though, a new tattoo on his upper arm. His stay north of the border didn't last very long, as Ryan was spotted arriving back at LAX last night.

Busy's occupied these days with Cougar Town, but she and Michelle are old friends from from their days on Dawson's Creek. Matilda and Michelle were back in NYC yesterday, scooting around their Brooklyn neighborhood. The girls are home again after holiday travels that brought them to the beach in Hawaii, and hopefully Michelle's rested up for a busy few months of work. Her Shutter Island hits theaters in February, with Blue Valentine not too far behind.

Michelle Slips On a Bikini and Takes Matilda to Hawaii

Michelle Williams and Matilda escaped the big snowstorm in NYC this weekend and instead were spotted in Hawaii enjoying a much more tropical climate. The girls' perfectly timed getaway meant bathing suits and sunshine instead of snow boots and warm coats. Michelle tried out stand up paddle surfing in her cute bikini. This upcoming award season will be a quiet one for Michelle since Shutter Island was pushed to next year, but she is supposedly mulling a possible turn playing Marilyn Monroe, which could mean another busy red carpet schedule. For now, however, it's all about relaxation with her number one girl, Matilda.
