Celebs are no strangers to controversy, but a few completely lost their heads this year and found themselves in more trouble than they (or we) ever could have expected. We were absolutely shocked when Mel Gibson was pulled over for drunk driving and proceeded to verbally attack everyone around him with anti-Semitic and sexist remarks. Similarly Michael Richards went on a racist rant on two African American men at an LA nightclub. Both men have since apologized but the damage has been done. Their lovable images are tarnished and it's doubtful either of their careers will ever fully recover.

Julianne Moore charmed critics last night during her Broadway debut in the political drama The Vertical Hour. Hopefully that won't inspire Julia Roberts to give it another try. - People
Michael Richards has also been accused of spewing anti-Semitic insults at hecklers earlier this year. In defense he's said he's Jewish but it turns out he's not. Maybe Michael should just keep his mouth shut for awhile. - R&M

After flopping at the World Music Awards Michael Jackson is turning his attention to Africa. He's planning to travel to Rwanda next June to help out with children's education and health care. Hopefully he can do some good there without adopting any children. - The Scoop
Michael Richards went on Jesse Jackson's radio program to apologize for his racist tirade, yet said that "cool people" in show business use the n-word freely. Never really thought of Michael as cool but still nice to see he is trying to clear things up - AP

Michael Richards Apologizes

Last night on Late Show With David Letterman, Jerry Seinfeld was the guest and he let his good old friend take up a good portion of his interview time to apologize over his rant this weekend. Michael Richards appeared via satellite to say he was sorry for his horrible behavior this weekend. He definitely looked shook up and genuinely sorry. "I lost my temper on stage. I was trying to do my act and I got heckled. I took it badly and went into a rage and said some really nasty things to some Afro-Americans," Richards tells Letterman via satellite. "I'm really busted up over this. I'm really, really sorry.

"I'm concerned about the anger coming through. I'm deeply, deeply sorry. I'm not a racist, that's what so insane about this.... I just have to do personal work. I'm still reeling from this."

Michael Richards Makes Jerry (and us) Sick

After a disgusting, racist, hateful outburst from Michael Richards on stage at the Laugh Factory in LA this weekend, TMZ reports that his former co-star Jerry Seinfeld is speaking out. Jerry said, "I am sick over this. I'm sure Michael is also sick over this horrible, horrible mistake. It is so extremely offensive. I feel terrible for all the people who have been hurt." Still no comment from Michael or his people. We are waiting to hear what Mel has to say. Perhaps he will give him some advice on how to say he's sorry over and over again. Stay tuned.

Jim, Jenny, Ben, Ashton and Mariah Smile at Sundance

The Sundance Film Festival is officially in full swing and big names flocked to Park City to promote their movies. Ben Affleck stopped on his way to DC for "Reporter," which he serves as executive producer. Jim Carrey had his girlfriend Jenny McCarthy to help support his role where Ewan McGregor is his boyfriend in I Love You Philip Morris. Ashton was there to promote his gigolo film, Spread, with his loyal wife Demi by his side. Funny ladies Amy Poehler, Parker Posey and Rachel Dratch posed for a portrait picture, which is a lot more tame than their film Spring Breakdown. Festival favorites like Michael Cera, Zooey Deschanel, and Sam Rockwell all showed off their films while Paris Hilton made sure to hit all the parties. Mariah continues to look elated in every photo with Nick but her movie "Push" is apparently pretty dramatic. Even Anna Wintour hit the festival this year to promote her debut in a The September Issue. The festival is just getting started so expect many more big names all week long posing in cute portrait shots, walking red carpets and attending parties.

Stars Warm Up For the Oscars With a Little Lunch

The 2009 Oscar nominees got to mix and mingle with their competition at the annual luncheon thrown in their honor in Beverly Hills earlier today. Brad and Angelina sat this one out, but Kate Winslet, Penelope Cruz, Robert Downey Jr., and lots of others were happy to come out and pose in front of the the big golden statue. Anne Hathaway revealed that her big date to the event will be her dad, and she is even hoping to score extra tickets for her mother and brother. In just a few weeks this group will be separated into winners and those who are just happy to be nominated, but for now they all seem to be enjoying the honor of being recognized for their hard work.
