chatted about sharing a dress with Kim Cattrall, Miley admitted she's never even heard a Jay-Z song in her life. When asked what song inspired the line,
she said,
"I don't know, I didn't write the song so I have no idea.

How is she a country singer? Majority of her popular songs are pop. I don't believe she has never heard a Jay Z song, he has performed at the same award shows that she has been at.

15The most obnoxious part of that quote is that she calls Jay-Z's music pop. I guess she's never heard of hip-hop/rap either. I think people with music careers should at least be aware of genres. And she's just lying to herself trying to say her music's not pop. She's trying to look harder and act like she does rock, which she attempts to explain in the rest of the annoying interview.

20And I think everyone's being a little harsh on her. Yeah, she shouldn't publicly speak about never hearing one of the most famous hip hop artists songs or calling him pop, but I am not surprised that this young teenager from Nashville has never heard one of his songs.
Something that makes me pissed is that Miley obviously doesn't sing to sing. She sings to be famous and get publicity.

29I live in Nashville. Miley Cyrus doesn't live here! She lives in LA. She is not a Nashvillian. Besides, Nashville is only known outside as a country music city. However, the scene is actually huge for alternative, rock, and folk rock. A ton of musicians like Jack White, Kings of Leon, Ben Folds, Emerson Hart (Tonic), etc etc. We get a ton of the up and comers that play the small venues building their name and they are promoted locally in alternative newspapers.
Sorry, but I just can't believe that Nashville is looked at as some ass-backwards country town that doesn't even know who the eff Jay-Z is. Insult the girl, not the city. The city also votes blue (very liberal area).

36I am 17 (about Miley's age) and I have honestly never heard a Jay-Z song. I have heard songs he has produced, ex. Umbrella but never one of his own. Sure, Miley could have worded it more carefully but shes just being honest which I find refresing. Compared to girls like Selena Gomez who always seem to be reading from a script, Miley always seems to just speak the truth. I don't listen to her music or watch her show, but I repect that.

43I listen to the top 40 station every morning, but I've never heard a Jay-Z song...that I know of. Maybe it's the same for her. She may have heard one but didn't know it was him, or if she's seen him at a show, it may not have stuck with her since it's not her type of music or she was backstage.
I don't get why she doesn't think her music is pop music, but she's a kid so I'll forgive her some stupidity. I like the song though, very catchy. At least she was honest about the song instead of trying to pretend to be what she's not.

The statement about not knowing Jay Z, however, smells of teenage temper tantrum. Maybe she expected Jay Z to send her flowers for mentioning his name in her song or some form of gratitude but he probably cringed when he heard it and only came in off the ledge after realizing it was free advertising. No this sounds like she's hurt...
