NPH Readies His Balancing Act For the Emmy Stage

Neil Patrick Harris has a big job on his hands hosting the Primetime Emmys this Sunday - don't forget to fill out your ballots on Buzz! - but the charm that landed him the gig and a nomination shines through in this New York Magazine profile. NPH reveals his passion for magic while also taking us through his unique career. We'll get a double dose of him next week since How I Met Your Mother returns on Monday - ICYMI, get a sneak peek here. In the magazine, NPH also talked about how he's navigated his way from being a young Hollywood star to openly gay in Hollywood. Plus, he has some sweet things to say about his longtime partner David Burtka. Here are highlights:

On his relationship with David: "We yin and yang very well. We’re both Geminis, but I, you can probably tell, I process what the options are, and figure out what to say, and he tends to just say what he is feeling. I’m just bowled over by him. He’s made my life exponentially more livable. He’s just-great. I’m his forever protector, and I’m happiest when he’s happy."
On being a child star: "I was a late bloomer, and when you’re a youngster, and you’re in the public, and people are recognizing you-it’s hard to behave normally. It was like a circus sideshow. You’d wear a hat and walk fast, because if someone recognized you, they’d shout your character’s name. And no one would come up-it was just like everyone was watching you, whatever you did."
On the decision to come out of the closet: "No one was ever old-school Hollywood, with a cigar in their mouth, saying 'You can’t do this, see! It’ll ruin your career, kid.' long as you’re representing yourself well, you’re making good choices for good reasons, all of the circumstantial things will vanish."
On being inspired by Danny from the Real World: New Orleans: "He was a unique entity at that time, as someone who was seemingly so confident in their own skin that they didn’t need to wear their sexuality, uh- Or to flaunt their sexuality? To be more of one thing or another. And I-it’s a personal thing, I suppose, but I personally responded to his lack of overt grandstanding. Again, tricky waters, because if I say something like ‘He didn’t wave flags,’ it sounds like I’m disrespecting people that do, who I think are tremendously important, but there’s more than one way to get into people’s psyches. Oh, he was very sexy, but everyone thought so. One wants to be sexy to everyone...As Barney, I get to make out with all sorts of girls. And I’m allowed to say that women are sexy and not have them say, 'That’s not true!' But I’m now in a really fun position, where I can tell a guy that he’s sexy, and most aren’t put off by that."

A Not Pregnant Kate Moss Strips Down For New York Magazine

Kate Moss stripped down and showed off a healthy looking body for the Spring Fashion Issue of New York Magazine. The interview included Sir Philip Green and confirms the NY Topshop store opening in early April but the timing of the issue also perfectly lines up with even more pregnancy rumors, which she clears up in the interview. In addition, Kate gets candid about loving clothes and her new body, and dishes on how excited she is to host the Met Costume Institute Gala this year. Here are highlights:

On being a designer: "I love clothes. I know how clothes should fit and feel. When I would go to shoots, stylists would say to me, 'You really should do something. You should take it another step.' But it never felt right until I met Philip and the whole atmosphere of Topshop."
On her upcoming lingerie line: "I’ve got a clear idea of what I want for lingerie. I’ve just started wearing bras. It’s a miracle. Not today, but I have been. Great timing for my lingerie collection. I’ve just grown breasts... I am a woman now! It’s true. No, honestly, I’ve never worn a bra in my life. Ever! It’s so awful, even my friends are phoning me up and saying 'Are you pregnant?' And I’m like, 'No! I just put on a couple of pounds, and they went in the right place.' Isn’t that weird? And how perfect for lingerie."

On the Costume Institute Gala: "After the last one, I went with Stella-we’ve been friends for a very, very long time. And the thing is, we stood in line for an hour or something to say hello to the meet and greet in the receiving line. Donatella is in front of us, and Francesco Clemente was behind us with his wife, who I knew from back in the day. And we’re going, I can’t believe this. You can’t smoke. You can’t have a drink. When we got to the receiving line, this lady came up and said, 'We’re sorry, they’ve all gone to their tables.' We were like, What? Tom and Katie just walked right up to the front, and we were like, Who the fuck are they? They’re not even in fashion! And then two days later Anna calls and says, 'I’d like you to host.' And also, it is an honor to be asked by Anna with Marc to host the Met ball and being the first model and all that."

Last year it was Lindsay Lohan posing naked in New York, but this time, as usual, Kate made it all her own.

Lindsay Lohan Does Her Best (Naked) Marilyn Impression

Lindsay Lohan bares all - no, really - for the cover of New York magazine's Spring fashion issue. Photographer Bert Stern re-created his famous final photoshoot with Marilyn Monroe, making yet another bold comparison between the two actresses. Just like in the original shoot, the blonde bombshell in front of the camera (LL wore a wig) stripped down to nothing. We've got the more safe photos compiled here, but check out the NY mag site for all the NSFW glory. I know that LL loves her body, but I was still a little shocked to wake up and see this. As for why she went along with it, Lindsay said it was a no brainer, "I didn’t have to put much thought into it. I mean, Bert Stern? Doing a Marilyn shoot? When is that ever going to come up? It’s really an honor." Lohan on the Marilyn painting hanging in her house:

"It’s eerie,” Lohan said of the painting, a Christmas gift, “because it’s this picture of her, and it’s kind of cartoony, and there’s a big bottle of pills next to her, and they’ve fallen over.” Lohan called Monroe’s suicide “tragic,” and then added, elliptically, “You know, it’s also tragic what just recently happened to someone else.” I asked whether she was referring to Heath Ledger. She nodded: “They are both prime examples of what this industry can do to someone.” Why some and not others, I asked, since it has often seemed that the thrice-rehabbed Lohan might meet a similar fate. Lohan replied with a flicker of annoyance: “I don’t know. I’m not them. But I sure as hell wouldn’t let it happen to me.”

Lindsay Lohan seems pretty confident in the control she has over herself so fingers crossed all those rumors about her drinking again don't mean she's headed back down a bad path. Let's just hope that LL keeps her Marilyn Monroe imitation to photoshoots, paintings, and racy rumors.

The Future Looks Bright For College-Bound Leighton Meester

Leighton Meester is a splash of color in this weekend's New York Times Magazine. In addition to modeling a range of kaleidoscopic outfits, Leighton sits down for a special Q&A ahead of the spread's appearance in this Sunday's issue. She opens up about what's in store on Gossip Girl (spoiler alert!), her next career moves, and rumors about her family. Here's more:

On doing movies: "Well, first I'm going on a much-deserved vacation. Then I'm starting work on a comedy called Date Night with Steve Carell and Tina Fey. I play the babysitter and they go out for a date one night and everything goes awry. After that I'm starring in this crazy movie called The Roommate, which is directed by Christian Christiansen and is sort of a re-telling of Single White Female. I'm the emotionally detached narcissist, but it's early days and I still don’t know who’s playing the psycho opposite me."
On the rumors that she was born while her parents were in jail: "This is the type of thing that you can't be too sensitive about - it's not like I did anything that's worth talking about. I love my parents very much, but people either continue or break the patterns of what their life should be and I just want to completely break whatever patterns would lead me to the same life choices that they made."

On what happens to Blair next season: "It's yet to be decided, but I'm definitely going to college - to NYU - and not wearing any more school uniforms. Thank god we're not pretending we all get held back and just continue with high school like all those other high school shows. Leighton's schedule is going to be jam-packed now that she also has a new single and an upcoming album to promote, so hopefully she makes the most of her upcoming getaway.

Jennifer Aniston Still Has Fond Feelings For Friends

Last week Jennifer Aniston got sexy for Vogue, but this week we just get a playful head shot for her New York Times Magazine cover. In the article Jen takes a little break from talking about Marley & Me and her personal life, and instead opens up about her other upcoming project and reflects on Friends. Here are highlights:

On her upcoming movie: "I wish it was She's Just Not That Into You! Unfortunately, it's He's Just Not That Into You. The other would be more empowering."
On watching reruns of Friends: "There are times I don’t even remember that particular show. This is horrible to say, but there are times when I laugh my rear end off. And I get in debates with people who are over and say, 'Friends' is not my thing.' Excuse you!"
On whether or not Friends would be a hit show today: "Hard to tell - that was a different time," Aniston says. "Now TV has too much to do with celebrity. We have reality television, where people try to become celebrities...."

Jen also revealed that she was nervous she'd never get any movie roles after being on a hit sitcom for so long, but with all her success it sounds like she's gone above and beyond her expectations.

She also talked about her reputation, saying, "Women tear each other apart. Girls think I’m a slut, and I’ve been in the same relationship since I was 18. The problem is, if they think you’re attractive, you’re either stupid or a whore or a dumb whore. The instinct among girls is to attack the jugular. If I had been a typical starlet and said all the right things, I wouldn’t have escalated to this level." Blake Lively Opens Up About Her Private Lives in Marie Claire

Blake Lively showed off a selection of sexy black bras for December's Marie Claire. It's been a busy year for the star, as she juggled her day job on Gossip Girl with film projects like The Town. Blake opened up to the magazine about her TV show and another of her movies, The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, also sharing a little about her personal style. Here's more:

On her first day on set with Maria Bello: "I was honestly terrified. I hadn't slept that much, and all I wanted that day was for Maria to say, 'Wow, great job.' And when she didn't say anything to me, I thought, Oh, my gosh, I'm terrible. She hates it. She's calling her agent, saying, 'What have you gotten me into?' But once we finished filming, she was so complimentary and sweet. The way Maria worked was very method, and then [costar] Julianne Moore was the complete opposite - between takes, she was a nice, normal mom talking about her kid's baseball games."
On Serena van der Woodsen: "As a character, I get to be this wild, outgoing person that I'm so not. I think it all comes from being the youngest of five. I was always observing my siblings and hearing stories about their lives that turned out to be helpful as an actress."
On her personal style: "Living in New York, I feel stronger and more like a woman than ever before. In high school, it was like, what power do I have - I have long blond hair, you know? But working as hard as I do now, I feel a sense of power and respect, too. And I've learned an incredible amount about fashion on Gossip Girl. Clothes are a personal expression, and my style is as ever-changing as I am: I'm growing, maturing, developing, I'm going through new things in my life, and with that, what I choose to wear changes."

Natalie Portman Talks Sex and Nudity in V Magazine

Natalie Portman rocks a pompadour for a stylized shoot in the Winter's V Magazine, which hits newsstands today. She made her directorial debut this year with New York, I Love You, but in this issue Natalie chats about Brothers, her first on-screen sex scene, and how she hopes to maintain her youthful appearance without going under the knife. Here's more:

On why she waited to do a sex scene: "I was figuring out my own sexual identity, likes and dislikes and all that stuff, and it's weird to be doing stuff on film as you're figuring it out. Also being a sexual object when you're a kid is really uncomfortable. After The Professional, I was already getting creepy letters. It's annoying because online bullsh*t interferes with what I want to do artistically. I'm not opposed to sexuality or nudity in a film, but I'm very opposed to pornography sites and you're pretty much giving them material if you do any of that. It's always a big dilemma for me."
On keeping her personal life personal: "The formative time of my public image happened before there was Facebook, Twitter, all of those gossip sites. I had my own drunken nights and dating a million people, but there wasn't that attention then."
On maintaining beauty: "You see people who were stars five years ago and already they're waning. As actresses approach 40, it starts becoming really, really difficult."
On being successful: "To be successful you need the desire to be successful. Ambition can be a dirty word, but it's pretty much more important than anything."

Lindsay Proves That Sex Still Sells

Fresh off her trip to Milan for Fashion Week, Lindsay Lohan broke out her denim cutoffs to take full advantage of the sunshine in LA yesterday. LL is back to the daily grind after making a splash with her nude photos last week, but the execs over at New York Magazine are probably still patting themselves on the back. The spread was a huge success, drawing 34 million pageviews translating into major online ad sales and Ms Lohan didn't even get paid a dime. Goes to show that Lindsay can still sell magazines - just as long as she's willing to show some skin.

Does Gossip Girl Deserve the Title of Best Show Ever?

The cast of Gossip Girl left the designer clothes at home and stripped down to their undies for the cover of New York magazine. These kids are no strangers to using sex to sell the show, but just as eye-catching as the cover models is the headline that reads "Best. Show. Ever."

Don't get us wrong, we love this show and are counting the minutes to tonight's episode, but this is definitely a bold statement. What do you think - is Gossip Girl the best show ever?
