The green room backstage at last night's SAG Awards offered some of the presenters a rare moment to take a load off! Kyra Sedgwick and husband Kevin Bacon shared a sweet moment on a couch, then welcomed Michelle Williams over for a hug. Michelle's BFF Busy Philipps was in charge of holding their clutches when Michelle kicked off the show and presented the oustanding male actor in a supporting role to Beginners star Christopher Plummer. Busy also took a moment to say hello to actress Regina King. Owen Wilson hung out there as well, along with a Givenchy haute couture-clad Zoe Saldana and Natalie Portman in Giambattista Valli. The SAG Awards winners were taken from the backstage area over to the press room, while those who announced the awards went out into the audience to reclaim their seats. Owen Wilson Has a Picture-Perfect Park Day With Robert Ford

Owen Wilson was a doting dad yesterday at a Santa Monica park with his young son Robert Ford Wilson. His ex, Jade Duell, also kept an eye on their little one as he tackled the jungle gym and slide. Owen preserved memories of the happy afternoon by snapping photos on his iPad. Owen and Jade welcomed Robert earlier this year in January. Since then, Owen's visited the mother-son duo multiple times at her Hawaiian home.

Owen's jet-setting hasn't stopped there. Last week, he was in St. Barts on a vacation with friends. Owen was seen hanging out at the island's chic Bagatelle, enjoying attention from women on the dance floor. It seems like a perfect time for Owen to celebrate since he recently nabbed a Golden Globe nomination for his role in Midnight in Paris. The Big Year: For the Birds

I have to give The Big Year some credit for straying from the idea that comedies either need to be raunchy, romantic, or dumbed down for kids these days. The film feels more like an old-fashioned comedy, before the genre became overrun with fart jokes and one actor playing every role himself. Though it won't make you roll your eyes, the downside is that The Big Year won't really make you laugh, either.

As three very different birders (that's "bird-watchers" for you amateurs) determined to see the most species in the span of a year - aka, a "big year" - Owen Wilson, Jack Black, and Steve Martin turn in genuine and likable performances. The film has heart and a feel-good message, but watching three dudes check out woodpeckers through their binoculars is about as boring as it sounds.

read more. Wilson, Martin, and Black bring their characters to life with ease, because they're all playing roles you've seen them in before. As Brad (who also serves as the film's narrator), Black is an amiable, happy-go-lucky guy who's looking to get his life back on track after getting a divorce and moving in with his parents. He finds happiness in his new friendship with Stu (Martin), who's going after a big year to justify all the years he spent climbing the corporate ladder instead of doing what he really loves. Both guys are trying to take down the cocky current birding champ, Kenny Bostick (Wilson), whose fear of losing his crown is even more encompassing than his commitment to his wife. The film drifts in and out of each character's personal life, showing how their time spent tracking birds is affecting their loved ones, and more important, their outlook on life as a whole. Brad and Stu are both easy to root for, and even Wilson's Bostick has his moments and one-liners despite some morally reprehensible actions. The problem is that their journeys are all equally anticlimactic. By the time the film reaches December (the end of the year), I wasn't any more invested in the competition than I was at its inception. The Big Year is a family comedy that steers clear of being offensive, but it's more unremarkable than it is amusing.

Steve Martin Does Not Approve of Clooney-Style Pranks

Steve Martin chatted about The Big Year at a recent press day in NYC along with his costars Owen Wilson and Jack Black. The trio, who play birders competing for a world record in the film, have great comic chemistry, and they joked about their antics on set and even confessed to a night of debauchery. The Big Year trailer gives a peek of what's to come when the movie is out on Oct. 14. The three get along great, but Steve in particular was happy their on-set time didn't include any out-there pranks. They said:

What was it like on set – were there any pranks?

Steve Martin: I’m not much of a prankster.

Owen Wilson: Oh come on, April Fool's Day - you wait for that to come around like nobody’s business.

SM: On April Fool’s Day, I change people’s calendar to April 2nd.

OW: It wasn’t really a prank-filled set

SM: When I hear about a prank-filled set, I think, "Ugh, I’m so glad I’m not on that movie."

Jack Black: Every time I do a press junket I always regret that I didn’t pull a George Clooney prank, so that I would have a prank to talk about later. We really missed an opportunity there, guys.

SM: We should have hired a writer to come up with some pranks that we could have said we played. We did have fun and we hung out on the set.

The Big Year Trailer: Martin, Black, and Wilson Have a Bird-Watching Bucket List

The best part about The Big Year trailer is the tacked-on intro, courtesy of stars Steve Martin, Jack Black, and Owen Wilson. It's not that the film looks terrible, but the big draw here is the comedy trifecta headlining the film, and there are more laughs when the guys are making fun of each other out of character. In the film, they star as three men who are a bit adrift in life, and so they embark on a year-long journey together to do all the things they've always wanted to do. Somewhere along the way, things get a bit competitive between the buddies.

I have to admit that I'm a bit confused by the trailer - mostly because the book it's based on, The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature and Fowl Obsession, is about bird-watching. The film, on the other hand, merely references a bird-watching hobby, and instead seems more like a coming-of-age story for grown men. Check out the trailer for yourself when you

Owen Wilson Takes a Walk Near the Beach With Robert Ford!

Owen Wilson carried his baby son, Robert Ford Wilson, who wore an adorable "I Love My Auntie" bib, yesterday near Venice Beach. The Wilson boys were joined by Robert's mom, Jade Duell, for the stroll. Despite stories that Owen and Jade had broken up in late June, it seems that they're still on good terms if not back together as a couple. We had a first look at Robert back in April, shortly after his birth on Jan. 14. The little one is now 7 months old and is getting accustomed to his dad's jet-setting lifestyle between visits to his mom's Hawaiian home and Owen's on the West Coast. Owen didn't bring Robert along on his latest press jaunts, though, when he ventured to NYC and even Europe to promote box office champ Midnight in Paris.

Midnight in Paris: A Dreamy Love Letter to the City of Light

You don't need to be a Francophile to appreciate all that Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris has to offer. The film is immersed in gorgeous French scenery, bathed in the kind of soft lighting that just makes you sigh with a sense of satisfaction. It's easy to see why Gil (Owen Wilson) wants to hunker down in Paris's quaint coffee shops to focus on his novel, an idea that his shallow wife Inez (Rachel McAdams) scoffs at. During a trip to France, the couple embodies the two stereotypical sides of spending time abroad: he's filled with appreciation and seeking inspiration while she's seeing the sights but not really experiencing them.

It's obvious from the start that Gil and Inez are incredibly wrong for each other, but it takes a few separate adventures in Paris to illustrate their fundamental differences. Inez is unabashedly attracted to her former professor, Paul (Michael Sheen), whom she and Gil bump into at a restaurant. When she splits off to go dancing, Gil gets the chance to wander the streets alone - and he gets a lot more than he bargained for when a car comes by to pick him up at midnight.

read more. Midnight in Paris is an exposition in nostalgia and self-acceptance. Gil's convinced he was born in the wrong time, and when the buggy that picks him up transports him to the Bohemian '20s, he turns into a kid in a candy shop. Rubbing elbows with the likes of Hemingway and Picasso, Gil is in his own personal heaven of artist worship - but he's blind to how unhappy his new BFFs are (and the fact that they don't share Gil's fascination with their time). I wasn't exactly expecting the film to take a turn into time-traveling, but Allen makes it work. Inez wonders where Gil is disappearing off to at night, but it really requires no realistic explanation; the movie is more of a fairy tale than a romantic comedy. The '20s setting provides plenty of opportunities for more beautiful scenery (and amazing costumes), and an array of historical figures paves the way for an endless amount of dramatic irony. The juxtaposition of Gil's two worlds keeps the story afloat; when Allen veers too far into the '20s, he snaps us back to a reality that's even more interesting now that Gil has a huge secret to keep. Gil's a fish out of water in both of his lives, and Wilson carries his conundrum to naive perfection. The beauty of Midnight in Paris (aside from its obvious aesthetics) is that it's enticing to both dreamers and cynics. It's packed with literary references and art-world jokes that intellectuals will snicker at, but is wrapped in a fantasy that's easy to get swept up in. Like many works of art, sometimes it's best to just enjoy it and not overthink it.
