Stars Hit the Bing Bar at Sundance!

Even before Drake hit the stage last night, the Bing Bar was playing host to some of the hottest events of the Sundance Film Festival. The cast of Lay the Favorite, including the always adorable Joshua Jackson, chatted about their film on Saturday afternoon, while upstairs everyone from Elizabeth Olsen to Emily Blunt hit the lounge for interviews. Elizabeth was a breakout star of last year's Sundance, and she's back again with two projects, Red Lights with Cillian Murphy and Liberal Arts which was directed by Josh Radnor. Rosemarie DeWitt actually has movies with both Emily and her husband John Kraskinsi at the festival. John stayed back in LA to promote Big Miracle for the start of the weekend, though he will be joining Emily in snowy Park City today to premiere Nobody Walks.

Joshua Jackson and his Lay the Favorite costar Rebecca Hall filmed on the streets of NYC yesterday with an adorable dog. The actor is on the East Coast following some recent travels around the country. He was in LA two weeks ago for beach parties and Beverly Hills shopping with girlfriend Diane Kruger, then Joshua was spotted shooting solo in New Orleans a few days ago. Diane stayed behind in California instead of joining Josh in Louisiana, preferring to stay at home and wear her Chanel jacket while running errands. The duo are pros at juggling their busy schedules and have been vocal about splitting their time between Europe and the US, though work often takes them to other cities around the globe.

Will Ferrell Plays It Straight in the Everything Must Go Trailer

Will Ferrell has made a name for himself playing outrageously over-the-top characters like Ron Burgundy and Ricky Bobby, but every now and then he reminds us that he's got a flair for more serious characters as well. Such is the case in the upcoming indie comedy Everything Must Go, where Ferrell plays a guy named Nick who hits rock bottom after he's fired (by none other than It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Glen Howerton) and his wife leaves him. To purge himself of reminders of what once was, Nick decides to sell all of his belongings in a yard sale - and manages to make a young friend in the process.

The story of a man who hits rock bottom and tries to rebuild his life with a new outlook has definitely been done before, but it's a treat to see Ferrell taking a break from his usual routine. The trailer is peppered with bits of dry humor and heart, with a cast that includes Rebecca Hall, Laura Dern, and Stephen Root. Have a look after the jump.

Ben Affleck Takes His Oscar Contender Out on the Town in Dublin

Ben Affleck kept his The Town promotional tour going last night with his latest premiere in Dublin following a morning of interviews. He joined costar Rebecca Hall for a screening Sunday in London, and she was once again by his side to show off their finished product. Ben spoke on the red carpet about how much his movie's domestic success means to him, saying, "If it hadn't turned out well, I'd be lying to you and telling you this kind of thing didn't matter but it feels really nice. I've been around long enough and seen the highs and lows to really enjoy this." Ben's sure to be thrilled, then, to hear that Oscar prospects for his second directorial effort are apparently rising fast back in Hollywood.

The Town: A Good Walk on the Wrong Side of the Tracks

In his directorial debut Gone Baby Gone, Ben Affleck gives us a grisly look at Boston's underbelly through the eyes of a detective trying to track down a missing child. He brings us back to his hometown for his second turn behind the camera, but this time we see the story from the other side. In The Town, Affleck plays a thief who's ready to throw in the towel on his life of crime.

Doug's decision to go straight is sparked by a bank robbery gone wrong. In a moment of panic, his right-hand man and best friend James (Jeremy Renner) takes bank manager Claire (Rebecca Hall) hostage when the team flees the scene. After they set her free, Jimmy fears that Claire will remember something and report it to the FBI. Doug promises to take care of the situation himself, but quickly finds himself in hot water when he starts a relationship with Claire. The romance represents hope for a new life, but turning his back on his roots proves to be more complicated than he expected.

The Town takes a look at the two kinds of people co-existing in Charlestown: the tunies (out-of-place yuppies like Claire) and the townies (those that grew up in the Boston slum). The family that Doug surrounds himself with are what give townies a bad name. His father (Chris Cooper) is serving time for murder, Jimmy has a police record a mile long, and his ex (Blake Lively) is a single mother involved with drugs. A recovering addict himself, Doug is no angel either - but by the end of the film you learn that the difference between a townie and a tunie is not always black and white.

So who's running the town? FBI Agent Adam (Jon Hamm) struggles with a war on crime that's often too big for him; he's constantly outsmarted by Doug's team of skilled thieves, and the more they slip through his fingers, the angrier he gets. The adept script shines through about halfway through the film, when you realize that you're rooting for the criminals to win here. Sure, Ben Affleck's charm is part of the draw, but Hamm's character is so callous that the audience is roped into a moral dilemma of their own.

The movie is seamlessly well-made, cementing Affleck's talent as a compelling storyteller. The love scenes are delicate, the action sequences are well-executed, and the acting is spot-on. Renner gives a standout performance as Jimmy grapples with his bad temper and resentment toward Doug's aspirations. The Town may not be an improvement on Gone Baby Gone, but it's a solid second notch in Affleck's directorial belt.

Even historic Fenway Park got red carpet ready for the Boston premiere of Ben Affleck's second directorial project, The Town, on the Red Sox home field last night. Ben had the support of his cast, along with his friend, and fellow Beantown native, Matt Damon. While the stars of the film were dressed up, Matt and pregnant Luciana looked ready for a ballgame in jeans. Blake Lively's boyfriend Penn Badgley joined her for the journey up from NY after Regis and Kelly yesterday morning. Jon Hamm also had his partner Jennifer Westfeldt on his arm, while Jeremy Renner and Rebecca Hall were solo. Ben's wife Jennifer Garner is home in LA with their daughters, though she stopped by TIFF with him last weekend. Ben recently spoke about what it means to make Boston films, saying, "Boston is a place that - and I was the same way, living there - that likes to see itself reflected, likes its own, likes to see a reflection of its values. New York doesn’t so much care about a New York movie. . . But Boston knows. Boston knows if you’re from there. . . It means something to them."

Ben Affleck led the way for the rest of the cast of The Town at the Toronto Film Festival today. He continued to show off his cute chemistry with costars Jeremy Renner and Jon Hamm as the trio of handsome men goofed around together on stage. Blake Lively reunited with the three amigos after their jaunt to Venice while she was busy partying to kick off NYFW and celebrating the Fashion's Night Out she's missing. The movie's red carpet premiere is tomorrow night, when they'll all get even more decked out to show off Ben's second directorial effort. Meanwhile, his brother Casey's first shot behind the lens, I'm Still Here, is out in theaters today, though Buzz wasn't impressed by the twisted Joaquin Phoenix documentary.

Hot Ben Affleck and His Cast Pack Up Their Town and Leave Venice

Ben Affleck said his goodbyes to the Venice Film Festival today as he and the rest of his cast from The Town headed out of the city. Ben, Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, and Rebecca Hall all looked like they had a blast celebrating together at last night's big premiere and photo call earlier in the day. Ben's second directorial project is already getting good buzz from yesterday's screenings, while his brother Casey's movie I'm Still Here has left many critics baffled. Next up, the Affleck brothers are both headed to Canada for the Toronto Film Festival. Blake Lively missed out on the Italian festivities in order to shoot Gossip Girl and stay close to the NYFW action, but perhaps she'll be able to sneak away from Manhattan for a night to join the crew at the TIFF red carpet on Saturday.
