Hugh Dancy and Maggie Gyllenhaal Turn It On For Hysteria

No need to blush, so let's just come out with it: Maggie Gyllenhaal and Hugh Dancy have signed on for Hysteria, a Victorian-era indie rom-com about the invention of the vibrator (definitely not your traditional romantic comedy).

Dancy will play a doctor who treats women suffering from an acute case of so-called "hysteria," an affliction of the time marked by "irritability, anger, or unexplained tears." To cure them, he partners up with his best friend (Rupert Everett) to create the device (though some doctors had their own methods of relieving the symptoms). Gyllenhaal costars as the daughter of one of Dancy's colleagues (Jonathan Pryce) and presumably Dancy's love interest. The actress has never been sheepish about tackling a little sexual taboo (hello, Secretary), but with a couple of Brits by her side, this movie sounds like cheeky good fun.

Buzz In: What's Your Favorite Movie Sing-along Scene?

Sigh. Movie sing-alongs. They are so good. When Top Gun was first out, if I wasn't head-over-heels for Tom Cruise already, his belting out of "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" to Kelly McGillis would have sealed the deal.

And come on, who didn't want to run down to their local dive bar, take some shots and belt "Sweet Caroline" after that fantastic scene in Beautiful Girls? Also, I will never tire of the part in My Best Friend's Wedding when that gorgeous man, Rubert Everett, kicks off an all-restaurant sing-along to "Say A Little Prayer for You."

For me, sing-alongs can take a good scene and make it the best scene. They tap into that basic human desire to break into spontaneous song and dance when the mood strikes. OK, maybe that's just my basic desire.

So tell me, what's your favorite sing-along scene of all time?

Does the Media Keep Actors in the Closet?

According to several A-List actors, there is a very obvious bias in Hollywood and they say it’s against hiring homosexuals. In an exclusive interview to be released next week, Alan Cumming - one of the stars of X-Men 2 - said that actors are more timid about coming out because of the way the press portrays homosexuality - they fear the controversy. “I don’t think the people that go see films care that much – the media make it more of a deal and it’s made into controversy. There is a lot of homophobia in the world – but in Hollywood definitely.”

Stephen Fry and Rupert Everett who have both claimed a homosexual preference also complained that they are now pigeonholed. Derek Munn, director of public affairs for Stonewall, a group that promotes equality and justice for gay people said: “The pitifully low number of openly lesbian or gay actors suggests that there is a problem. The film industry needs to think about why it is gay actors choose not to come out.”

This Just In: Rupert Everett Leaves Miami in the (Star)dust

According to Big Time, Rupert Everett has put his two-bedroom, two-bath, 1,350-square-foot pied-à-terre condo in Miami’s South Beach on the market for $1.15 million. The property, which he purchased for $670,000 in Sept. 2004 is on the seventh floor of 200 Ocean Drive, opposite Ocean Beach Park. Word has it, "He doesn't come to Miami that much anymore." Either that, or he couldn't appreciate his picturesque ocean view because his beautiful brown eyes were permanently damaged by his blinding "hunter" orange bedspread. I guess Ricky Martin isn't the only one leavin' la vida Miami.

Some lucky ladies (and a few men) came out in London last night to view the Chanel Métiers d’Art Collection - check out gorgeous photos of the pieces here. Of course, beautiful little Emma Watson was front and center for her favorite fashion house alongside fellow fashionistas Thandie Newton (who will literally not miss a party these days) and Claudia Schiffer among others. From looking pretty adult to looking perfectly age appropriate here, Emma Watson is quickly becoming a favorite starlet. Checking out new Chanel and schmoozing with some of the most respected actresses and models in the world? Not a bad way to spend a chilly December night.

The Ladies Spread Their Stardust In The UK

It was all about the blondes on the green carpet last night at the premiere of Stardust in London. Sienna left her tattoo twin at home, and went with a simple LWD while Michelle continued to wow us by aging backwards in her LBD. Claudia Schiffer may have skipped the LDs entirely, but made it clear that she's still hot in her tight pantsuit. They may have left their men at home, but obviously these ladies have no problem shining all by themselves.

All Eyes On Keira

Keira Knightley looked angelic in her pink dress at the premiere of Atonement at the Venice Film Festival today. Keira's cute co-star James McAvoy also posed on the red carpet beside his on-screen lover, but he claims that she is the one to watch. He said, "I don't mind that Keira will get a lot of attention. She deserves it. She is incredible in the film." Undoubtedly all eyes may be on Keira in Venice now but we have a feeling things might slow down a bit once Brad and George roll into town.

Cammie and JT's European Shrek Reunion Tour Continues

Shrek the Third just keeps on having premieres but the stars still seem to be enjoying one another on the green carpet. They're currently in London and it looks like Cameron and JT are continuing to get cozy. "It's great having him around. We've not been able to sit down and have a chat yet we've been so busy," she said. We're sure they have a lot to catch up on! Still, Jessica Biel can't feel too great about the fact that Justin is traveling around Europe with his ex. The two were together for so long and judging from the way they look at each other, it's clear they're still really close! One thing is for sure, Cameron has been wearing a ton of cute dresses at all of the premiers. Which was your favorite?

Cameron Conveniently Overseas in Paris for Shrek

Cameron was finally joined by some co-stars, like Rupert and Antonio, as she continued her worldwide tour of Shrek the Third premieres. This stop, Paris! Cameron looked gorgeous with her snazzy white shoes, but it was nowhere near as daring as her MTV Movie Awards dress (if you can call it that). I bet she is pretty happy that she's overseas this week, because back in the states maybe/maybe not boyfriend/friend/casual fling, Criss Angel, can't seem to stop running his mouth. How embarrassing.

Hysteria Trailer: Hugh Dancy Invents the Vibrator

Yup, you read that title correctly. In Hysteria, Hugh Dancy plays a Victorian-era doctor who is up to his elbows (um, kind of literally) trying to cure women of "hysteria," which, in this case, seems to be a fancy way of saying aroused and/or sexually frustrated. To make the relief process easier, he and his partner (Rupert Everett) invent the first vibrator with the help of some electricity and a feather duster. Maggie Gyllenhaal also pops up as a sassy love interest.

The trailer looks a little silly, but the fact that it's inspired by true events has me intrigued. Plus, it's hard not to giggle in spite of yourself at loaded one-liners like "Imagine if everyone had one!" To see the trailer, just
