Keira and Rupert Do Dinner After the Theater

Keira Knightley and Rupert Friend met up for dinner in London on Thursday night after finishing their respective onstage performances. She's in the middle of a run in The Misanthrope, while just a few blocks away Rupert's starring in The Little Dog Laughed. The pair has made their post-show meals a habit despite their demanding schedules. It's good they've worked out a comfortable routine, since Keira's play is set to continue to mid-March and Rupert's until April.

Keira's Schedule Changes but Still Includes Dinner With Rupert

Keira Knightley took the stage in London last night for her evening performance in The Misanthrope. Her boyfriend Rupert Friend was busy just a few blocks away starring in his own show called The Little Dog Laughed, but the couple reunited afterwards for dinner at The Woseley. Keira's finishing up her run in the play and is currently sorting out what films she'll be doing next. She dropped out of the remake of My Fair Lady - who do you think should replace her? Keira is apparently in talks, though, to star in The Talking Cure with Golden Globe winner Christoph Waltz.

Keira and Rupert Work Apart, Dine Together

Keira Knightley and Rupert Friend put aside any rumors of trouble as they smiled and showed a little PDA after dinner at J Sheeky in London yesterday. She's been working late into the night onstage in The Misanthrope, and he actually has been, too - he's currently in previews for his own show called The Little Dog Laughed. Keira's focus will shift from plays back to films in the coming months, when she heads out to promote her film Last Night with Avatar's Sam Worthington before its release in March.

The Young Victoria: A Lush, Royal Romance

When it comes to period films that involve corsets and longing romantic looks, Keira Knightley is usually, er, queen. But in The Young Victoria she gets some stiff competition from Emily Blunt as a teenage version of the 19th century royal.

Blunt is already up for a Golden Globe for her performance in the film, and it's easy to see why. As an 18-year-old woman learning the ways of government and love, Victoria isn't the stuffy version of the queen that you associate with history books. She's sharp, silly, bullheaded, and vulnerable at the same time - all of which Blunt captures adeptly. But Blunt's performance isn't the only element that shines in this film, which, it should be noted, counts Martin Scorsese and Sarah Ferguson as producers. For more of my thoughts,

The film opens by flashing from Victoria's coronation to a year before her reign, as she prepares to take over the throne from her uncle, King William III. She's constantly smothered by her mother (case in point: Victoria is not even allowed to walk down the stairs without an adult holding her hand). Her mother knows that Victoria is her meal ticket, so she fears that if she loosens her leash, she'll lose her fortune.

But in a bumbling, shy Prince Albert (Rupert Friend), Victoria finds a fellow imprisoned soul. As the nephew of King Leopold of Belgium, he's coached by his uncle to woo Victoria so that he may benefit Belgium as her husband. Albert meets Victoria almost out of duty, but he falls in love with her on his own.

Though the film begins with Victoria as she adapts to her role as monarch, the story of her reign takes a backseat once Albert arrives on the scene. The political drama just can't compete with their courtship, and ultimately it's what the film is about.

Friend and Blunt have a slow-burning chemistry that feels palpable - a testament to both their skills. Despite wealth and royal titles, their romance feels just as real and relatable as any in modern day, and they're undoubtedly one of my favorite onscreen couples this year. Without Friend or Blunt, Victoria could have been written off as just another snoozy piece of historical fiction, but thanks to their star turns, it's easy to get swept up.

The happy couple was out soaking up the Summer sun together, just a few days after a late night out toasting a short film they worked on together called The Continuing and Lamentable Saga of the Suicide Brothers. It looks like Keira was making the most of her day off from her current project, London Boulevard, which she's been working on with Colin Farrell for the past few weeks.

Movie Preview: Pfeiffer and Friend in Chéri

Michelle Pfeiffer and Rupert Friend make a lovely, beautifully costumed duo in Chéri, a romantic drama set in the 1920s. From the trailer it doesn't look so much like a drama as it does a sweet, funny little period piece, but apparently the story takes place in Paris "where the son of a courtesan retreats into a fantasy world after being forced to end his relationship with the older woman who educated him in the ways of love." It looks like a nice enough movie, but so far I'm mostly mesmerized by the silks and lace, pearls and hats on display in the trailer.

Keira Knightley looked lovely in her white dress with black accessories at the Young Victoria afterparty in London last night. Keira was at the premiere to support her boyfriend Rupert Friend, who had his costar Emily Blunt on his arm on the red carpet. Keira has a few of her own new movies to look forward to - she'll be playing a cloned girl in Never Let Me Go after costarring with Colin Farrell in London Boulevard.
