Seann William Scott Slams Bodies in the Goon Trailer

Goon may be a hockey movie, but from the looks of the trailer, it's more about the violence than the goals that take place on the ice. Seann William Scott stars as Doug Glatt, a hockey player whose job isn't to score, but to make as many of the opposing teams' players bleed as possible. Liev Schreiber also stars - with a hilarious-looking handlebar mustache - as Glatt's menacing rival, Ross Rhea.

This is definitely a movie for the guys, complete with beer, violence, and a love interest (Alison Pill), who is only interested in sports and sex. It's a little more testosterone than I think I can handle, but see what you think when you

Cop Out: Comedic Misconduct

It's easy to cast an odd couple in a movie, counting on their unexpected pairing for the initial draw. For Cop Out, that couple is Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan, a seasoned action vet and a live-wire comic. It's an inspired pair, and though there are some laughs in this caper, there's also a lot of laziness that makes this movie . . . wait for it . . . a total cop out.

As Jimmy and Paul, the straight man and goofy screw-up who have been police partners for nine long years, Willis and Morgan induce chuckles just by interacting in the beginning. Where director Kevin Smith goes wrong is relying too much on the sight gag of the polar opposites together.

read more. Working off of a script by Mark and Rob Cullen rather than his own writing, you'd think that Smith's director trademarks would be subdued. You'd be wrong. There are plenty of penis jokes, rivaled only by the amount of poop jokes. I'm not a total stick-in-the-mud; I'll laugh at a poop joke if it's funny, but when it's being invoked repeatedly for shock value, I get bored. These kinds of easy laughs dominate the movie's dialogue, which isn't just mind-numbing, it's a waste of talent - particularly Morgan's. The actor's delivery is spot-on in each episode of 30 Rock, but he comes off as an oafish dummy in this role. Did I mention that the plot of the movie is that Jimmy and Paul are in pursuit of a valuable baseball card? No, I didn't yet because that simple storyline becomes so overstuffed with wacky characters and vignettes that you completely forget the point of the expedition. I will give it up for Seann William Scott as a Parkour-practicing petty criminal who keeps crossing paths with the duo. But, when the funniest scenes in the movie belong to a peripheral character, can that really be a victory? It's par for the course for Cop Out, which manages to be a succession of low comedy mixed with a few good laughs - and too many stumbles.

Bruce and Tracy Are Two Cops Out For a NYC Premiere

Bruce Willis brought his wife Emma Heming to last night's premiere of Cop Out in NYC. Tracy Morgan coordinated his red outfit with the carpet, where the guys were joined by Seann William Scott and Michelle Trachtenberg. Their costar Adam Brody was fresh from LA, though he turned up without his female traveling companion, while Kevin Smith also made it despite his recent airplane difficulties. Tracy was excited to share all about the best part of working on the film, which opens on Friday. "Just to be able to star in a big action movie," he said. "[It was] the biggest thing that I've ever done in my career and it was with Bruce Willis."

Movie Preview: Tracy Morgan and Bruce Willis in Cop Out

There are a lot of things that please me about the preview for Cop Out (formerly known as the less SFW-sounding A Couple of Dicks): a return to form as a tough-talking officer for Bruce Willis, an always hilarious Tracy Morgan, and the fact that the movie is directed by Kevin Smith, but does not look like a Kevin Smith film.

Though I'll always have a soft spot for Mallrats and Clerks, it looks like the Smith-isms have been toned down for this raucous and fun buddy cop flick, instead playing to the actors' strengths rather than the director's. Morgan and Willis together is enough to get me excited, while the promise of Adam Brody's appearance in the movie (though not the trailer, boo) sweetens the pot. Brody's not the only rad actor who's been included, either; Rashida Jones, Jason Lee, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Fred Armisen are all in the cast list.

Role Models: Setting a Good Example For Comedic Movies

For the second time in recent history, I left an R-rated comedy feeling really happy. First Kevin Smith's crass, dirty film about low-budget porn turns out to be rather sweet, and now Role Models. Though full of crude language and nasty jokes, the movie is really a twisted sort of coming-of-age story - for the adult characters more than the kids - that's ultimately heartwarming.

Danny (Paul Rudd) and Wheeler (Seann William Scott) are two energy drink reps who have been with the company for several years now. Danny has grown frustrated with what he sees as a dead-end career, while Wheeler is something of a frat-boyish slacker who rather enjoys his low-commitment lifestyle. One day, however, Danny's aggravation overwhelms him and he and Wheeler end up getting in trouble with the law. They choose to put in 150 hours of service at a mentoring program rather than go to jail, and they meet their charges: Augie (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) and Ronnie (Bobb'e J. Thompson). read more. Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott make a great, well-cast team, but my favorite actor in the whole thing is Jane Lynch, who plays the ex-convict director of the mentoring program. She keeps a watchful (if not slightly twitchy) eye on the two men as they attempt to bond with Augie and Ronnie. These relationships are rocky at first (since the big joke here is that these two schlubs are allowed to be role models at all), but in the end, everyone learns a little something about himself. I have paid attention to director David Wain's career ever since he was a member of MTV's awesome/bizarre sketch show The State, and though I love Wain's Wet Hot American Summer, I understand that it's something of an acquired taste. When his movie The Ten came out last year, though, I was disappointed. Now it seems Wain has struck a good balance: Taking a simple story (two guys who join a mentoring program and struggle to connect with their charges) and infusing it with his weird, sometimes awkward, sometimes crass sense of humor. This way, we're not overloading on the cheesy, mundane stuff of the ordinary mainstream comedy, but it's also not just one long string of bizarre jokes. The message (if one is wont to look for such things), too, is particularly accessible to the 20- and 30-somethings of America. Danny experiences a specific kind of ennui, a sense of despair at not knowing what makes life meaningful. This idea that the key to happiness is community and helping others can been found in countless movies, but here it's coming all wrapped up in sarcasm and sex jokes and the cute, droll Paul Rudd. But then, of course, as soon as we realize that there might be a goopy central theme to all this, someone punches someone else in the crotch and we're back to just having a good time. Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott headed to TRL yesterday to promote their new movie Role Models. Paul rocked his Obama t-shirt for the many photo ops, before his candidate got elected last night. He'll also be taking on hosting duties for SNL next weekend, though lots of you are on the fence about whether or not you'll be tuning in after the election. Either way, the movie opens on Friday and is already getting good reviews - be sure to check back to see what Buzz had to say about Paul and Seann as a comedy team.

Stars Slip Into Their Calvins For CK Party

Not everyone headed West for the 25th anniversary of the VMAs, and those that didn't turned out for Calvin Klein's 40th anniversary party at Along the Highline in NYC last night. Halle Berry and Gabriel got a babysitter for baby Nahla to get all prettied up to celebrate with the designer. Claire Danes, quickly back from TIFF, looked beautiful and was joined by a gorgeously glowing pregnant Naomi Watts. Jessica and Leighton continue to make their mark during Fashion Week, doing their best to attend every event possible. Sexy Eva Mendes wore a low cut green dress, and Brooke and Lindsay laughed in matching black and white. We chatted with Lindsay at the Saks Ruby Slipper event where she revealed she thinks she has the "best wardrobe on TV."

Movie Preview: Role Models

Does the world need another one of these man-child comedies? Old School, Knocked Up, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Drillbit Taylor, Step Brothers . . . it just keeps happening. There's the guy (or usually more than one guy) who's schlubby and immature and thinks behaving like an adult is akin to destroying one's soul. He "hilariously" messes up over and over again until the sensible killjoy female character frowningly sets him on his way down the Right Path. It's kinda been done. A lot.

Role Models finds Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott playing energy drink reps who mess up so much that they're told by sensible killjoy (played by Elizabeth Banks) that they need to become basically Big Brothers to some kids (one of whom is played by Superbad's Christopher Mintz-Plasse, who is pretty funny in the preview).
