Emma Watson Talks About Her Tom Felton Crush, Dating, and Girlfriends in Seventeen

Emma Watson's Seventeen cover showcases her bright smile and short locks. She's currently working on The Perks of Being a Wallflower, but she'll soon be back in the middle of Harry Potter madness when the final film hits theaters on July 15. Emma posed for the August issue of the teen magazine as she gears up for the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, and she touched on dating, relationships, and even her crush on costar Tom Felton. Here's more from Emma in Seventeen:

On which Harry Potter costar she had a crush on: "For the first two movies, I had a huge crush on Tom Felton. He was my first crush. He totally knows. We talked about it - we still laugh about it. We are really good friends now, and that's cool."
On dating: "If I want to see someone, I want to see them, and if I don't, then I don't. My friends are always telling me I have to play hard to get because I'll pretty much say to a guy, 'I like you - let's go hang out.' But my friends are like, 'You can't do that! You have to string this guy along.' And I'm just like, 'No! I won't! I just want to go on the date!' It's a nightmare - I definitely haven't figured it out yet."
On her friendships: "I still have friends from primary school. And my two best girlfriends are from secondary school. I don't have to explain anything to them. I don't have to apologize for anything. They know. There's no judgment in any way."

Oprah's Seventeen Magazine Obsession Explains Her Career

In the January issue of O, Oprah explains that her teen obsession with Seventeen magazine inspired her to create her new network, OWN. She says Seventeen was "a space where I could get some guidance, a space where I could be entertained, a space that was fun for me, where I was allowed to feel most like myself," and describes her complete dedication as such:

"When I was growing up, Seventeen magazine was like my bible. It was 50 cents a copy. I was at the drugstore every month - I knew the date that they were dropped because I never had enough money for a subscription, but I saved my 50 cents and I was there. Whatever Seventeen magazine said, I did."

That sounds a lot like how some treat Oprah: whatever Oprah reads, they read. Whatever Oprah buys, they buy. And people treat her word like the bible, too. At least fictional characters - when asked about her religious beliefs, 30 Rock's Liz Lemon infamously replied: "I pretty much do whatever Oprah tells me to."

Katy Perry Says She Never Feels Pretty

I have seriously mixed feelings about Katy Perry's new Seventeen magazine interview. In it, she raves about her fiancé, Russell Brand, saying that he's taught her a lot about inner beauty and confidence. Yay! Yay for young love. And yet, the following quote is all kinds of sad:

"I don't really feel pretty ever. Without makeup, I feel ugly. And so I would have to sleep with makeup on, or feel ugly and gross. He looks beyond all of that, which is such a win, because I've never felt that with anybody."

It's always good to find someone who doesn't care about what you look like without (or with) makeup. That's how love should be. On the other hand, her "I feel ugly" talk bums me out. I'm all for candor, but it is depressing to hear someone talk about herself so critically - especially because Katy Perry is a very pretty woman. I keep imagining a gawky teenager reading Katy's quote and thinking, "Wow, if she feels ugly, then I must be hideous." And of course, neither Katy nor that girl is ugly. Imagine this simple but radical shift in thinking: what if women, famous or not, stopped being so hard on ourselves? If we stopped putting energy into that and started from a belief that we're fine (and fiiiiiiine) as we are, what we could accomplish would be endless.

Kristen Stewart Talks Twilight and New Moon With Seventeen

Kristen Stewart is on many magazine covers in the runup to New Moon's release next month, from Interview to Allure and now Seventeen. She managed to take a break from working on Eclipse and hanging out with Robert Pattinson to sit down and chat about the whole Twilight phenomenon and what she's learned from her character, Bella. Here's more:

On Twilight's popularity: "I'm used to doing really tiny movies. But then it turned into a big deal. I mean, I know how obsessed the fans are - they love it, but we love it just as much!"
On learning from Bella: "You don't need to give reasons for the things you do - you just have to do what you want. And sometimes the thing that seems messed up to everyone else is what's right for you. You have to do it and not be ashamed of it."

Beyonce Knows Herself Enough to Be With Jay-Z

Beyonce Knowles isn't a teenager anymore, but that didn't stop her from sitting down with Seventeen to chat all about her whirlwind year, which includes her stop by the TRL finale tonight, as well as her upcoming double album. She opened up about her hush-hush wedding to Jay-Z, as well as her competition. Here's more:

On finally settling down with Jay-Z: "I was 18 when we first met, 19 when we first started dating. There was no rush - no one expected me to run off and get married. I really don’t believe that you will love the same thing when you’re 20 as you do at 30. So that was my rule: Before the age of 25, I would never get married. I feel like you have to get to know yourself, know what you want, spend some time by yourself, and be proud of who you are before you can share that with someone else."
On what she's learned from her husband: "I guess probably that we’re all human. I don’t care if you’re picture-perfect on every magazine cover, and you’re the most handsome, successful, coolest guy – you still get sad, and you still get your feelings hurt, and you still get confused and vulnerable and nervous and scared. You have to find a person you can make it through the tough times with."
On competition with other artists: "I feel like I’m my competition. I don’t try to compete with other people. I just try to better myself. I go and watch everything that I’ve done. I have my YouTube days, when I watch every performance, and I listen to my music, and I watch my videos to figure out what I need to do, what I need to fix, and how to become a better singer."

It's rare to get a peek into her relationship with Jay-Z, especially about their vulnerability, but it's part of what keeps her human and able to be her own best motivation.

Blake Lively Spills For Seventeen

From Vanity Fair to Seventeen, Blake Lively is racking up her magazine cover girl credits this Summer. We already know that she vented about being compared to Paris Hilton, but in the article she also opens up about her costars' special talents and staying away from the nightlife, all while playing coy about Penn. Here are highlights:

On getting silly with her co-stars: “Everyone is really funny and has such strange things that they do. Like Leighton does amazing voice impressions, and she can impersonate anyone’s face. Chace does an amazing impression of Scott Stapp from Creed. Ed is always singing. Taylor is just so adorable, I just want to bake her a cupcake. And Penn does these silly dance moves, and he’s very witty and quick, so it’s fun to have sharp banter with him.”
On why she doesn't hit the NYC hot spots: “I don’t drink, so when you’re going out to a really loud place, where you can’t talk to other people, and people are drinking, you can’t really have a conversation. I just never really found too much joy in it. Especially if there’s something else fun to do, like play Guitar Hero.”
On how actors fall for each other off-set: “Maybe when they kiss off the set – because it’s definitely not romantic on the set, that’s for sure. When you’re saying these words that people are making you say to one another, nothing about it is real or genuine. So if two people connect outside their characters, then that’s how they get together.”

We know that Miss Blake spends plenty of time working on her off-screen kissing, but we admit we're curious to see what happens with all the on screen romance between Serena and Dan when season two starts up again. In fact, we have quite a few questions for those kids.

Could You Sign a Body Peace Treaty?

For obvious reasons, I'm not a regular reader of Seventeen, but I'm always psyched to pick up a teen magazine and see stories promoting positive body image. Seventeen is especially great about this, and it's even gone so far as to create a Body Peace Treaty that women of all ages can sign, declaring that they will be more accepting of their bodies.

The pledge, which has been signed by celebs like Miley Cyrus, Hayden Panettiere, Fergie, and Ciara, lists 12 promises women should keep in order to avoid being obsessed with food and weight. To see my favorites from the list,

read more I think these 12 points are great reminders for all of us. The Body Peace Treaty isn't discouraging us from eating well or staying fit, but it does reinforce the fact no one's body is perfect, and so it's pointless to stress so much about our appearances. Here are some of my favorite promises on the list.

Remember that the sun will still rise tomorrow even if I had one too many slices of pizza or an extra scoop of ice cream tonight.
Remind myself that what you see isn't always what you get on TV and in ads - it takes a lot of airbrushing, dieting, money, and work to look like that.
Remember that even the girl who I'd swap bodies with in a minute has something about her looks that she hates.

Rachel Bilson Goes Fresh and '80s in Seventeen

R-Bils covers galore! After the slightly skeevy GQ look and cuter Lucky cover, I think I'm going to say that Rachel Bilson's February Seventeen spread is definitely my favorite. My 12-year-old self feeling all cool reading Seventeen is especially thrilled about it. For the photoshoot Bilson got back to her '80s-baby roots with the look, which I can't help but love. Inside the magazine she got a little bit girly and a little bit candid talking about mom time and boys (yes, even Adam, sigh). Here are highlights:

On having a mom who is a couples' counselor: “You know, as a kid, you’re not as willing to be open with your mother just because you’re younger and not as mature and you don’t realize that it’s actually a good thing to do. Now that I’m older, I talk to her about anything. But I think she’s a little bit more willing to talk to me about things - where I’m still like, ‘Ugh, Mom! Come on!’”
On dating costars: “You know, a lot of people don’t like to date people they work with. But I think that you can’t help who you like - it’s as simple as that. When you’re surrounded by people, it just becomes more of a thing: You’re probably gonna like someone you work with or whatever, because you get to spend more time with that person. You get to know that person - you really can’t help it. I don’t think there are any rules.”
On keeping her relationships private: “With Adam, we tried never to put it in anyone’s face. We never took pictures together, and we never really talked about our relationship until maybe a couple years into it. I think it took a while to talk about it at all. I don’t like to talk about that personal stuff - romantic stuff - it’s just too personal, and a lot of that is so exposed. But you want to keep certain things to yourself. It’s not like I have any secrets: I just choose not to talk about certain things.”

Only a few more weeks until we get to see R-Bils with her boy Hayden in Jumper - I'm so keeping my fingers crossed that it's good. Either way, I gotta believe there's a whole new group of girls just a little too young to remember The OC learning to love Bilson outside of Summer Roberts. Matt Ready for a Comeback With Young Zac

Matthew Perry and Zac Efron got to work on the set of their new movie Seventeen in LA on Friday. These two don't really look all that much alike in everyday life, but we can kind of see the connection when looking at their side-by-side jackets and shades. We have to say that while Zac isn't winning many votes as your favorite rising star or best up-and-comer of 2007, we're interested to see how he does in a non-singing role. As for Matthew, we totally support any chance to see an old Friend back on the big screen.

Hilary's So Over Joel

With all the controversy surrounding Nicole Richie lately, we almost forgot that Joel Madden had another serious girlfriend before he went and knocked up Nicole. However, in this month's issue of Seventeen, Hilary Duff reminds us of the two year relationship she had with Joel - and she's making her feelings about him loud and clear. Here's more:

On the breakup with Joel:
“All of the going out he did after we broke up sort of shocked me. Like, that’s just so out of character for him, and when we were together, he hated stuff like that, so I felt like I just really didn’t know him as well as I thought I did.”

On Joel dating Nicole Richie:
“With the amount of time that we had invested in each other, I felt disrespected that he moved on so quickly…But some people don’t want to deal with how they feel, so they cover it up. Rebound! I shouldn’t say that. You know what, though? Now I don’t care.”

We can't blame Hilary for being shocked and hurt by Joel, but based on recent events, it looks like she got out of that relationship just in time. Besides, between her awesome bikini body and potential new hot man, we'd say that Hilary is doing just fine for herself these days.
