Shanna Moakler Dishes on Motherhood, Child Pageants and Travis Barker

Perhaps she is best known as the ex-wife of rocker Travis Barker, or one might connect the blond bombshell to her Playboy past, but to her three children, she is simply mommy. Shanna Moakler entered the spotlight at a young age as a model at age 15 and grew into pageant life, where she was crowned Miss USA in 1995. Now it is her children who are number one in her life. Celebrity Baby Scoop recently sat down with the mama and delved into motherhood, her career, and life with ex-hubby Travis Barker. Here's more:

On how motherhood has changed her and what she finds most rewarding and challenging:

Motherhood changed me in so many ways. I look at the world different. I was a young mother, and a single mother quickly. I am constantly striving to be a better person for my children, for my family. I want to give them the opportunities I didn't have . . . Having three kids, I find the most challenging part is just making sure I take the time to individually nurture their different needs. They actually work very well together and I've made sure that they have a mutual respect for one another and their ages. I really try to make time to sit with each one daily, talk to them, see how they are feeling. Coming from a divorced home, I want my children to know they are loved. I want to breed confidence and I want them to know how to work through life's challenges; alone and together . . . The most rewarding part is seeing them grow and develop into these beautiful personalities and people. There is nothing like when your babies tell you they love you!

On coparenting with ex-husband Travis while living apart:

Travis and I are lucky, we live very close to each other. So, yes, we try very hard to work with each other per our schedules and co-parent [situation]. We are both very hands on and our children come first. Always have . . . Travis is a morning person and loves driving the kids to school. I am a night owl and prefer to take on the bath times and homework, etc.

On the paparazzi and her children:

I make a major point to stay away from paparazzi spots. Sadly, by doing this, I have been criticized as not being a good mother as I am just not 'seen' with them as much as my ex is. I find it sad that being considered a good mother meant I had to parade my children around Robertson and Malibu. I have chosen to pass . . . Sometimes paps do scare my children and other times not. I have allowed the cameras into my home, I let them see me when I go out with friends. They have covered my marriage and I think it ruined my marriage . . . There is one part of my life that I don't share with anyone and that is my family and children. I don't need the public or my ex to tell me I am a good mother. I am a great mother!

On managing her busy career while being a mom to three kids:

Now that all three kids are in school, it gives me much more time in the day to do the meetings and the personal things I need done. I have a lot of help and I just make lists and I prioritize. I figure out the kids' time-frames first, after-school programs, etc., and then I make mine from there. Things come up but we work together.

On wanting her girls to be in beauty pageants:

I have no problem with my daughters doing beauty pageants if they so choose. They may like it, they may hate it. Beauty pageants get a bad rap, but most pageant contestants are some of the most intelligent, driven women I have ever met. They are brave and they want to better themselves and be involved in their communities . . . We need role models and we need systems that are positive for young women. This may not be everyone's ideal, but it works. My experience in pageants have taught me confidence, poise, amazing life skills and I have met friends for life along the way.

On telling her children about her nude modeling days:

My children know and I try to make nudity not a big deal in our home. We have art with nudity as well. I do teach my children self respect and self love and that our bodies are to be honored . . . If my daughters wanted to pose nude, I would support them, but I would also let them know how it has affected my life and in what ways I thought it was going to help and in what ways it has hindered. There are times I wish I hadn't posed and others I am very proud I did. I think honesty and communication and really helping your children learn what is best for dad or I, or Bob and Joe, may not be best for them.

Gerard Butler Spotted Cozy With Travis Barker's Ex, Shanna

Shanna Moakler didn't waste any time getting back out there after her ex-husband, Travis Barker, blogged on his MySpace that they're not back together in the wake of his plane crash. When he was injured, Shanna rushed to be by his side - and made sure everyone knew about it - but now she is back on the party scene, spotted with Gerard Butler last night in LA. Yesterday, Shanna responded to Travis's message on her own MySpace saying, "With great tragedies comes great truths, these truths either bring people together, or tears them apart . . ." Gerard was playing bartender last night before sitting down to cozy up with Shanna. Thankfully, it sounds like Travis is doing well and has lots of support from his friends, though it's pretty incredible that the drama between him and Shanna is still going strong and public after his traumatic experience.

PYTs Pick up Flashy New Sidekicks

Nothing brings out celebrities quite like the lure of a fancy new gadget and last night's launch party for the T-Mobile Sidekick LX was no exception. Nick Cannon was amongst the first in line for the party, which featured the stylings of Steve Aoki and DJ AM along with a performance by Kanye West. Seriously, is there anywhere he won't show up? What's next, his dentist's kid's Bar Mitzvah? Also on the pinkish carpet was Carmen Electra sporting those bangs that are so hot right now (just ask Ty-Ty). Bella wants to know - are you loving or hating Carmen's bangs? Fresh off her audition for the Justice League movie, the gorgeous Minka Kelly from Friday Night Lights flashed a smile while her maybe boyfriend John Mayer celebrated 30 in NYC. Fun times.

Girls Get Leggy At The VMAs

The ladies were showing off their sass on the red carpet at last night's MTV VMAs. Just about the only girl not showing off her legs was Rihanna who certainly wasn't hiding her hot bod. It all looks good for a steamy Vegas night. What did you think about all the red carpet looks and beauty? Jennifer Garner was definitely a little bit of a random addition to the crew, but looked stunning! Ashlee was another highlight - though really she's 100% not the girl from her MTV show. Overall though, the ladies did the MTV red carpet right - keeping it light, fun and funky. Rewind for a sec back to Garner, yowza!
