After a successful career in the '80s and early '90s, the actor dealt with addiction problems that unfortunately overshadowed his talent. E! More casting gossip making the rounds! According to one website, Guy Ritchie is eyeing Daniel Day-Lewis to play villain Professor Moriarty in the Sherlock Holmes sequel (hmm, I guess this means that Brad Pitt is no longer in the running).

Day-Lewis is a pro at creating chills (see: There Will Be Blood or Gangs of New York), so is it any wonder that he's at the top of Ritchie's list? Of course, he isn't the only one with a penchant for men with a murderous streak. Just think of Willem Dafoe, Mark Strong, or Gary Oldman - all three are often cast as evil types. So, let's brainstorm: which actors or actresses are best when they're playing bad?

An Education

Despite its high profile as an Oscar nominee, An Education was one of the year's most understated dramas. Carey Mulligan stars as Jenny in her breakout role of a 1960s student who tastes a life of sophistication when she's seduced by an older man, played by Peter Sarsgaard.

This captivating, coming-of-age movie was one of my favorites last year, and I plan on renting (OK, buying) this movie now that it's available on DVD. The extras include a commentary track from director Lone Scherfig, Mulligan, and Sarsgaard, eleven deleted scenes, a making-of featurette, and the original trailer.

Sherlock Holmes

Robert Downey Jr. exudes many charms as the title character in Guy Ritchie's slick retelling of Sherlock Holmes. RDJ, who won a Golden Globe for the part, is hot, ripped, and it's not necessarily costar Rachel McAdams he has the most chemistry with - it's his sidekick Watson, played by Jude Law. The bromance was my favorite thing about the movie, but it's also packed to the brim with action, making it a highly entertaining rental. The lone extra is a making-of clip titled "Sherlock Holmes: Reinvented."

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel The musically-inclined CGI rodents star in their own sequel, I mean squeakquel, and this time they have more than just Jason Lee as live-action support - Chuck cutie Zachary Levi also stars. Of course, there's no upstaging Alvin, Simon, and Theodore (voiced by the likes of Justin Long and Amy Poehler) in this kid-friendly flick - just this weekend it won favorite movie at the Kids' Choice Awards. The extras are many, including a collection of the musical moments, a clip of the history of the group and interviews with the creators, as well as a VH1-like spoof on the Chipmunks group. 21%

Box Office: Avatar Leaps Into Its Fifth Week at No. 1

Looks like there is no stopping Avatar! The film had a very good weekend - not only did it take home record-breaking wins at the Critics' Choice Awards and two Golden Globes, it also took the top spot at the box office with $41.3 million. Thanks to the new sales figures, the movie is closing in on the $500 million mark domestically (and getting closer to unseating Titanic as the highest grossing film of all time).

In second place was newcomer The Book of Eli with $31.6 million, followed by The Lovely Bones with $17 million.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel and Sherlock Holmes continued to hold on to their places in the top five, earning $11.5 million for fourth place and $9.8 million for fifth place, respectively.

Jude Hits the City of Love With Sherlock Amid Marriage Rumors

Jude Law hammed it up with Guy Ritchie this morning at a Sherlock Holmes photo call in Paris. Rachel McAdams struck a few poses in her latest pretty look, though Robert Downey Jr. wasn't with the gang following their premieres in both Madrid and Berlin. Jude's all about promoting his holiday blockbuster during their European tour, but his heart apparently is back with Sienna. After their shirtless and bikini fun in Barbados, things are rumored to be getting serious between them again. There's talk that Jude is getting ready to propose, and Sienna's said to be into it despite the fiasco of their first engagement.

Jokester Robert Downey Jr. hammed it up for photographers last night posing with costar Jude Law at the Madrid premiere of Sherlock Holmes. Rachel McAdams went with lovely muted tones, mixing it up after the bold one-shoulder turquoise dress she wore to the Berlin premiere Tuesday night. The trio looked amazing on the red carpet - Jude's still sporting a lovely glow from his recent vacation with Sienna Miller, while Rachel wore her adorable curls pinned up this time. Robert has a lot of travel ahead of him this week if he plans to make it back to LA before Sunday's Golden Globes, where he's nominated in the Best Actor category.

RDJ Is Surrounded by Beautiful Ladies For Sherlock in Berlin

Robert Downey, Jr. and a radiant-in-blue Rachel McAdams hit the red carpet in Berlin last night to premiere Sherlock Holmes. The stars of the film were joined by their dinner companions from the night before, Diane Kruger and January Jones, both of whom looked gorgeous. Diane is back in her home country for work, including an upcoming role alongside January. Both RDJ and January Jones are nominated for Golden Globes this Sunday, and Diane Kruger could join them for the trip back to LA to support Inglourious Basterds' handful of nods.

January Gets to Know Diane and the Sherlock Gang

January Jones scored an invite to a dinner in Berlin last night with some of the Sherlock Holmes team. Diane Kruger, who stylishly touched down at Tegel airport in her home country yesterday afternoon, also got decked out for the meal with Robert Downey Jr., Guy Ritchie, and producer Joel Silver. It's perfect timing for Diane and January to get to know each other better, since the blondes are set to share the screen in the upcoming film Unknown White Male with Liam Neeson, who was also spotted arriving in Germany this week. Guy and his actors are all apparently in Europe for a premiere this afternoon, but it looks like they were able to add a little pleasure into their business trip.
