In this romantic comedy, Ginnifer Goodwin plays Rachel, an unhappily single 30-year-old attorney, who has always been overshadowed by her obnoxious best friend Darcy (Kate Hudson). After one too many birthday drinks, Rachel reveals to Darcy's fiancé Dex (Colin Egglesfield) that she harbored a secret crush on him throughout their law school years, and the pair end up in bed together. In the weeks leading up to the wedding, Rachel and Dex continue their secret relationship. The film feels like a teenage soap opera, but John Krasinski provides some laughs as Rachel's confidante. The DVD extras include a gag reel and deleted scenes.

Jane Eyre

In this adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's classic book, Mia Wasikowska stars as Jane Eyre, a woman who becomes a governess at Thornfield Hall after spending a hard childhood in boarding school. Once at Thornfield, Jane begins to notice mysterious events and catches the eye of its owner, Edward Rochester (Michael Fassbender). The two begin a relationship, but the secrets that emerge prove too much for Jane to handle. The relationship between Jane and Edward could have been developed a bit more, but the film nevertheless manages to capture the novel's gothic vibe. DVD extras include deleted scenes and commentary from the director.

The Conspirator

In this Robert Redford film set in post-Civil War Washington, Frederick Aiken (James McAvoy) plays a lawyer who is charged with defending Mary Surratt (Robin Wright), the only woman accused of participating in the plot to assassinate Lincoln. Aiken, who is initially reluctant to take on the case, soon begins to uncover evidence that suggests his client is not only innocent, but also may be a pawn in a plan to lure the actual conspirator. While the film highlights a little-known historical event, its pacing is pretty slow. The extras on the DVD include segments about Mary Surratt's real trial and deleted scenes.

Buzz Battle: Readers Take Sides on Something Borrowed

Something Borrowed is shaping up to be the year's most divisive romantic comedy - and I'm not talking Team Darcy vs. Team Rachel. After posting our movie review, video review, and poll on whether you want to see the sequel Something Blue, many of you expressed a love for the movie, while a crop of others disliked it. Read on to see the arguments of those who adored the movie, along with those from folks who couldn't get behind the film.

User jannam: "I recommend it!! I saw it already and I LOVED it. I don't understand why it's getting such bad reviews. I thought it was hilarious (mostly due to Krasinski, who is adorable in this movie). Anyone that read the book and liked it, will like this movie!"
User lilkimbo's counterpoint: "I thought the book was OK, so I went into the movie with an open mind. Anyway, I was disappointed. Goodwin and Egglesfield didn't have much chemistry, Rachel came off as unlikable and boring, the clothing was even comically bad. (And yes, multiple people I was with made comments about this.) In the book I was conflicted, but in the movie I really had trouble rooting for Rachel. I actually found myself liking Darcy more. Friends who hadn't read the book were annoyed that it was obvious we were supposed to be rooting for Rachel, but they liked Darcy better. Sure, Darcy is self-centered, but the movie almost made it seem like confidence and assertiveness are reprehensible qualities."

Its the definition of a chick flick so definitely not anything too thought provoking . . . it's going to be easy and breezy. User dreamalittledream: "I didn't read the books, and went to the movie mainly because my friends wanted to see it . . . and I loooved it!!! Mainly because it shakes up the typical rom-com formula. I was rooting for one ending, my friend was rooting for another . . . and neither really happened! It deals with more than just a guy falling for a girl. There are a ton of complicated relationships in the movie and I think they did a pretty good job of balancing them all. I really hope they make a sequel, I'd definitely see it!!!"

Does Something Borrowed Deserve a Film Sequel?

I read Emily Giffin's novel Something Borrowed, as well as its sequel, Something Blue, last Summer, finding both novels to be relatable (though at times frustrating), but enjoyable beach reads. With that said, I was disappointed with the film adaptation, and couldn't hide that in my review for Something Borrowed. However, there were two bright spots in the movie: John Krasinski and Kate Hudson.

Sarcastic Ethan and sassy Darcy easily have the most personality of any of the characters in the film, and their performances were the most fun to watch. With that in mind, I'm actually rooting for Something Blue, the sequel that follows Ethan and Darcy in London, to get the big-screen treatment. The story is more straightforward with fewer side characters, and Krasinski and Hudson could very well have believable comedic chemistry that turns into romance. Whether or not the film will get made is still up in the air, so tell me - do you think Something Borrowed deserves a sequel, even though it isn't soaring at the box office or with critics?

Box Office: Thor Brings Down the Hammer on the Competition

Don't underestimate the strength of Thor! The action film starring Chris Hemsworth muscled its way to the top of the box office in its opening weekend with a haul of $66 million. It beat last week's winner Fast Five, which still zoomed into the second spot with $32.5 million.

The new wedding-themed romantic comedies followed; Jumping the Broom came in third place with 13.7 million, while the Ginnifer Goodwin/Kate Hudson flick Something Borrowed got the fourth spot with $13.2 million. The animated family film Rio rounded out the top five with $8.2 million.

Something Borrowed: More Blue Than New

Something Borrowed presents the kinds of conundrums and moral dilemmas that we've seen on screen a million times before: what do you do when you have the hots for someone who doesn't want you in return? Or what if he does return your feelings, but he's already spoken for? These issues may exist beyond teenage years, but Something Borrowed is so fluffy that the film is more like an extra long episode of Gossip Girl than a realistic portrayal of love and friendship.

At the epicenter of the tangled web is mousy lawyer Rachel (Ginnifer Goodwin), who's spent her life loyally playing second fiddle to her outgoing, obnoxious-but-hot-so-she's-forgiven best friend Darcy (Kate Hudson). Rachel's self-esteem is at an all-time low on her 30th birthday, and after a few drinks she inadvertently admits to Darcy's fiancé Dex (Colin Egglesfield) that she had a crush on him during their law school days together. They end up in the sack, thus inciting a Summer of longing glances across the room, weekend rendezvous, and a whole lot of secret keeping. Though there are plenty of jokes along the way, ultimately there's no way to make light of the fact that we're supposed to be rooting for a relationship dripping with betrayal.

Colin Egglesfield's Surprising Past Role on All My Children

Tom Cruise look-alike Colin Egglefield is on his way to becoming a household name thanks to his role in Something Borrowed (out today), but he's a familiar face to fans of Melrose Place and All My Children. Before the 38-year-old landed a part in the high-profile rom-com, he played one particularly bizarre character on AMC: Erica Kane's aborted fetus. Oh, yes.

In 1973, right after abortion had been legalized in America, the soap opera broke ground when star Erica Kane had an abortion. As a rising model, Erica decided a baby would end her career. The story line was extremely bold and relatable even by today's standards, considering TV shows and movies still avoid portraying women exercising their right to choose, but it took an insanely unrealistic turn three decades later.

In 2005, Erica discovered that a well-known fertility doctor performed her 1973 abortion, but then he implanted her aborted embryo into his own wife using, of course, a revolutionary procedure. Not surprisingly this embryo, now grown man Josh Madden, found his way back to Pine Valley. The gimmicky rewrite upset fans who appreciated the daring portrayal of abortion 30 years before.

From 2005 to 2009, Colin embodied the controversial character Josh Madden. His take on the role? "It's kind of funny because when people ask me who I am on the show, I like to say, 'I'm the abortion of Erica Kane.' Or, technically, I think it's a 'transportion.'" Now you're getting technical?
