Spice Girls Musical in the Works: Brilliant or Baffling?

Here's a blast from the '90s past: American Idol creator Simon Fuller is working on a Spice Girls musical for the stage, with the working title of "Viva Forever."

Fuller is collaborating with Judy Craymer, who is behind the Mamma Mia musical, so it's being speculated that the show will use Spice Girls music the way Mamma Mia used ABBA's songs (and not star the actual band members). I may or may not have bought several Spice Girls singles back in the day and dressed up with my friends as each member, and 15-year-old me might be excited about this one. But it could also be too early for '90s nostalgia, and the plot could be completely absurd to fit the pop songs. What do you think?

Anne Hathaway and former Spice Girl Emma Bunton were spotted wearing Jasmine di Milo's artistic confection. Sweet Anne kept her look simple, accessorizing with a pair of dangly earrings and hot reptilian pumps. Emma added some spice to her life - pun intended - with a gold necklace and bold bangle. A structured patent bag and matching heels finishes off her look. Note how Anne's makeup is minimal and Emma's is red hot. Both are working the dress, but which look do you prefer?

If former Spice Girl Melanie Brown were starting a dance troupe I'd get it, but starting her own clothing line called Catty Couture? That's scary! The name is cheeky but the leopard-print clothes in the background tell a different story. I can definitely see her wearing them, but that doesn't mean they should be mass produced and distributed to the rest of the world. Oh gosh, I can see it now . . . a bunch of former Spice Girls fans running around in head-to-toe leopard. I'm going with freaky all the way. You?

The Spice Girls Bid Farewell With a Little Help From Cruz

Last night the Spice Girls closed up shop on their reunion tour in Toronto. They put on their sassy costumes one final time, and the lucky audience was treated to yet another performance by adorable Cruz - LilSugar has the cute video right here. The Girls posted an official goodbye message on their Spice Blog, thanking the fans and even incorporating a few lyrics. Here's more:

We have been lucky enough to have shared it with the most loyal fans in the world. Ten years on, you came back still wanting more . . . and it looks like we made some new friends along the way. You have inspired and ignited us with each show, the 47 that we performed, each time was amazing and it is thanks to you.

So we look to the future with hope and imagination and let Girl Power live on through all of you as it will continue in us and the future generations to come.

We hate goodbyes but sadly the time has come to take our final bow so maybe our song says it best:

"Goodbye my friend, it's not the end . . . So glad we made it, time will never ever change it . . . "

We have to admit that it's a little sad to see the Girls going their separate ways again, but we're glad Cruz helped them end their run with a bang.

Cruz Shows the Spice Girls (and NYC) What He Can Do

The Spice Girls are rapidly approaching the end of their tour, and they're pulling out all the stops for their last batch of shows. Last night the Girls were joined by their little ones on stage during a performance of "Mama," and Cruz Beckham decided to steal the spotlight from his own mama. In the middle of the song, he showed off his very best breakdancing moves, much to the delight of the audience at MSG, who went wild with cheers. The Beckhams have pinpointed Romeo as the performer of the family in the past, but it looks like Cruz is ready to give his brother a run for his money.

Time to Spice Down Our Lives

The Spice Girls rolled into the Toronto airport today, and Victoria, Emma, and Geri all had their littlest ones. The rest of the crew probably wasn't far behind - we know how these families like to stay close together while on tour. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end, and in the case of the Spice Girls reunion, the party is getting cut short. Last Friday the Girls announced that they were canceling their tour dates after February 26 so that they can get back to their families and other commitments. Sad for all the fans around the world who won't get the chance to see the group, but the Girls did make an apology video explaining why they had to end their run.

Yesterday's Patriots-Giants game was the most-watched Super Bowl ever with 97.5 million viewers, the Associated Press reports.
Speaking of the Super Bowl, the Arcade Fire apparently didn't give permission for their song to be used in an ad for NFL on Fox, Pitchfork reports.
A Jim Henson biopic titled Henson is now in the works, though casting hasn't yet begun, writes ComingSoon.
E! Online has news that the Spice Girls will wrap their world tour later this month, canceling dates in China, Australia, South Africa and Argentina.
Variety reports that Robert Englund, mostly known as the man who played Freddie Krueger in A Nightmare on Elm Street, will direct The Vij, "a dark gothic fantasy in which Christopher Lee is attached to star."

According to People UK, the Spice Girls are in talks with L'Oreal about
starring in its new series of "Because You're Worth It" hair advertisements.

"The girls like the idea of following in the footsteps of all the big names who've worked for L'Oreal. So it looks like the talks are going to go smoothly."

With multi-million dollar endorsements like this one, as well as the cute commercial they did for UK Superstore Tesco, the Spice Girls are looking at banking some serious bucks. How do you feel about them landing a L'Oreal campaign - do you think they are as "worth it" as pretty predecessors J. Lo, Beyonce, and Kate Moss?
