On A Day of Highs and Lows, Sundances On

While the afternoon took a noticeably somber turn as the news of Heath Ledger's tragic death spread over snowy Park City, the morning was for celebrating as Oscar nomination news came to Sundance. While a lot of the celebrities left with the end of MLK day weekend, there was still swag to be scored for some of them. I was lucky enough to stop by the Pure & Natural Celebrity Eco-Retreat and Iconix "Gift Giving For A Cause" Suite benefiting Save the Children to see all the goodies the celebrities have been snatching up as souvenirs. I also ducked into the Wireimage portrait studio thanks to our friends over there and while I didn't get any big celebrity sightings, I was right on the trail of so many of them who have stopped through to pose.

Mischa and Audrina were definitely enjoying the goodies while Diddy was more about pimping his vodka than taking home free stuff. Luke Wilson was looking scruffy, but hopefully his movie luck has turned since BuzzSugar had only good things to say about his movie at the festival, Henry Poole is Here. I'm headed home to slightly warmer SF tonight, but there's a lot more Sundance to come!

Sugar Bits - Princess Diana Is Honored Ten Years Later

The Princes of Wales organized a memorial service held in Buckingham Palace today to mark the 10th anniversary of the death of their mother, Princess Diana. We're happy to see that her life is still celebrated by her friends and family. - People

Despite accusations brought up by Courtney Love, Steve Coogan is denying that he had anything to do with Owen Wilson's suicide attempt. It sounds like Courtney and Steve have some issues of their own to work out. - Page Six

Orlando and Mark, Men of the Year With Lovely Ladies

GQ celebrated its men of the year at the Royal Opera House in London last night ranging from Mark Ronson to Orlando Bloom, both of whom came with their beautiful dates. Mark Ronson had his younger lady model Daisy Lowe while Orlando and Miranda continued to be one of our favorite hot couples. Elizabeth Hurley may have been of the wrong gender to win an award, but as usual she raised the sexy level in her tight little dress. Mark took home the Alfred Dunhill Maverick Award as a “gentleman of independent or non-conformist views or actions” while Steve Coogan won an award for Acting and Gordon Ramsay for being an entrepreneur.

Hollywood Gets Independent and Spirited Before the Oscars

Before we were overcome with Oscar mania, lots of stars headed to the Independent Spirit Awards in LA on Saturday. After the exciting red carpet, the show was full of parodies and dance numbers featuring Teri Hatcher, Christina Applegate and Rainn Wilson goofing it up onstage. The Wrestler was a big winner, taking home honors for Best Film as well as Best Male Lead. Mickey Rourke gave an off-the-cuff acceptance speech, dedicated to his recently deceased dog Loki. Other winners like Penelope Cruz and James Franco celebrated with their trophies in the press room. Mary-Kate Olsen and Ben Kingsley were two of the many famous presenters along with Jessica Alba, Lucy Liu and the newly engaged Claire Danes. Elizabeth Banks and a scruffy Bradley Cooper also took the stage to present. This awards show honored films that cost less than $20 million to make but gave the stars a preview of what was to come on Oscar Sunday.

Tropic Thunder Hit LA, All the Boys Come Out to Play

Tropic Thunder has gathered some boycotters over the past few days, but that didn't keep away Hollywood for last night's big red carpet premiere in LA. Fresh from a weekend of rehearsals in NYC, Katie Holmes popped in on Tom's arm to help celebrate his acclaimed cameo in the movie. Of course, the stars Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr. and Jack Black were all there with their wives. Stiller in particular spent time defending his movie's edgy content, but only this weekend's box office will tell whether or not people are scared away by the controversy. Matthew McConaughey and Tobey Maguire, who both also make appearances in the film looked great out last night with The Office guys too making it quite the little boys club, with a few pretty faces like Katie, Amy Adams and more sprinkled in for good measure.

Let the Denials Begin

We reported that Courtney Love claims to be pregnant with comedian Steve Coogan's baby. She gave some ridiculous interview where she said:

"It was literally non-stop sex. Steve is a f***ing sex addict and has a major substance problem.

"He even asked me to get ten Viagra pills for him so that he could keep going, despite the fact he was past the point of exhaustion.

"When I was with Steve, I did things that I shouldn't have done. I passed the line of what even I think is normal."

I can only imagine what Courtney considers "normal." So as expected, Steve is denying Courtney's claims and a spokesman for him said "He is astonished by this. It's ridiculous."

Now that she is back in rehab we should get a month off from hearing about crazy Courtney, but if this is true, we sure hope she gets off the drugs before bringing another child into the world.

We couldn't believe the awful news when we first heard about Owen's suicide attempt on Sunday, and now stories about his past are popping up all over the place. Apparently Owen has a history of drug usage, and his friendship with co-star Steve Coogan has had a negative influence on his life. His face is all over the media this week, so we want to know - are you shocked by all the news about Owen?
