Matthew's Surfer, Dude Is Worthy of His (Denim) Tuxedo

Matthew McConaughey was out with friends in Santa Monica before getting dressed up in all denim to join Camila Alves and his costars for another premiere of Surfer, Dude. Matthew was hitting the airwaves from all angles yesterday - he also visited LA's NPR station to play a few of his favorite songs as part of their Guest DJ project. Matthew and his familiar drawl are no stranger to voice work since he just recorded some spots for a Baby Longhorns DVD, so Matthew was probably a natural on air.

Movie Preview: Matthew McConaughey's Surfer Dude

"I'm not some ass clown in a green room. I'm a surfer, dude." Hmm. . . some might beg to differ, Mr. McConaughey.

After months of watching Matthew run around the shores of Malibu shirtless in those black and white swim trunks, we now get to see what all that ~~really hard~~ work was all about. The trailer for Surfer Dude prominently features the very tan manjoyment that is Matthew as well as Woody Harrelson (doing his ordinary clueless shtick), Willie Nelson and a bunch of ladies in bikinis.

According to IMDB, the movie is "a wave-twisting tale of a soul-searching surfer experiencing an existential crisis," which sounds almost. . . deep. But let me know if you spot any actual acting going on here because from what I can tell it looks like Matthew and friends just doin' what they do off the clock. To see for yourself,

Oh brah, this just has to be one of the best, like, interviews ever, dude. The news people are like, "wha?" and this surfer's like, "Ye-ah!" Meanwhile, I'm thinking the skin isn't the only part of the body that's damaged by too much exposure to the sun--his brain is officially fried.

Matthew McConaughey's life just makes me giggle. He runs around all day every day "on the set" of Surfer Dude, but really...can you call it acting when he's doing the exact same thing he would be otherwise? He's hanging out with Woody, hitting the waves, not wearing a shirt -- pretty status quo. Only, where'd he get that baby? I have to believe it's in the movie with him, but it just calls to memory some of the celeb dads we've seen around this week. Matthew is so very, very not the father type. He's just livin, L-I-V-I-N. What I want to know is: when will he get back to his biking routine with his Jake & Lance? Now that was nice to watch.

Matthew Shows His Stripes at LAX

Matthew McConaughey took his now too familiar striped board shorts to LAX this week to continue shooting Surfer Dude. So far we've seen his character throw a fit, climb trees and carry a woman caveman style and now he's adding skateboarding through LAX to his repertoire. This film should definitely be entertaining and his ripped body isn't going unnoticed!

Matthew McConaughey, Surfer Dude

Well, Matthew McConaughey may have just found the movie role of his lifetime. According to Variety, the oft-shirtless actor has signed on to star in Surfer Dude, a movie about - hang on to your bongos, people - "a soulful surfer in existential crisis."

Let's all just take a moment to let that sink in.

Despite my general apprehension about movies with "dude" in the title, I think this could be the greatest thing to happen to surf cinema since Point Break. Matthew McConaughey is ridiculous - from his naked bongo playing to his '90s-era neon board shorts - and I love him for it. In fact, I can't wait to see him in this role, so

Surfer Dude, which begins filming in Malibu in May, is the first homegrown project from McConaughey's j.k. livin' production company. Of course, j.k. livin' is shorthand for McConaughey's motto, "Just keep livin'."

Flimsy personal philosophy aside, McConaughey the actor has always been a pleasure to watch, whether he's playing a stunted adult in Dazed and Confused or a defiant Southern lawyer in A Time to Kill. In my opinion, he always accepts roles within his range, and no, I haven't forgotten about Amistad.

Also, McConaughey doesn't pretend to dislike being a sex symbol like so many hot actors do. In fact, he recently told Entertainment Weekly that directors often "gotta work to get me to put on shirts." I particularly love this quote from Adam Shankman, who directed him in The Wedding Planner, about cutting one of MM's shirtless scenes:

"I only cut it because it was a moment when he was supposed to be having a genuine conversation with the bride-to-be and it was a massive distraction. He came to the set in his robe, all oiled up, and he was glistening in the light."

But the main thing I like about Matthew McConaughey is that he always seems to be having fun. After all, isn't that the main perk of being rich and famous? Bongo on, dude.

Matthew McConaughey Steps Out With Sexy Camila on the Eve of Big TV News

Matthew McConaughey had fiancée Camila Alves by his side last night at the Sao Paulo opening of the retailer Le Lis Blanc Noir Boutique flagship store. They're in Camila's home country of Brazil, where Matthew is an international spokesman for the South American chain. Matthew and Camila spent Easter in Texas, relaxing with friends and loved ones. Matthew, Camila, Levi, and Vida relocated to Austin a few months back to be closer to his family.

It sounds like Matthew could be spending more quality time with his best friend, Woody Harrelson, as well. Matthew and Woody may star in True Detective, an eight-part detective series about two officers who embark on a 17-year hunt to catch a serial killer. This isn't the first onscreen collaboration for Matthew and Woody, as they previously collaborated on EdTV and Surfer, Dude.

Meet a new version of Barbie's better half, the Sweet Talking Ken Doll ($19), who pretty much looks like Barbie (same blue eyes and pouty pink lips) but with a surfer-dude shag haircut. Sporting an awfully tight fitting shirt that reads Ultimate Boyfriend in multiple languages, this Ken doll, marketed to tots five and up, has the unique ability to "sweet talk" tots - with their own words.

Lil ones simply press a heart on Ken's shirt to record themselves saying whatever it is they'd like to hear from Ken himself. Kind of a bizarre concept: own your ultimate boyfriend and program him to say exactly what you want. What do you think?
