Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise spent a rainy NYC afternoon together yesterday. The mother and daughter held hands as they walked along the city streets and were even spotted breaking out in a playful sprint. When the rain picked up, Suri protected her baby doll from the elements under an umbrella while her mom followed closely behind. Katie and Suri are back in the Big Apple after spending some time in Louisiana recently.

Tom Cruise has been in Baton Rouge filming Oblivion, in which he plays a soldier stuck on Earth following the apocalypse. Audiences will next see the actor take on a more lighthearted role, however, in Rock of Ages. Tom grew out his hair to play an '80s rocker alongside an all-star cast that also includes Mary J. Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise met up with a group of friends in Baton Rouge yesterday. They checked out fun animal statues and played in a park during the sunny afternoon. Katie and Suri are back in Louisiana while Tom Cruise films Oblivion, though he's already started switching gears to promote Rock of Ages. He was shirtless on the cover of W and chatted with the magazine about how Katie and Suri encouraged him to take the musical role. His costar Julianne Hough has begun press as well and was a presenter at last night's Billboard Music Awards. Their movie hits theaters on June 15, kicking off an exciting Summer that also includes the Teen Choice Awards, where Tom is nominated for best actor in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.

Few details about his futuristic drama have been released, but another high-profile project starring Tom is getting lots of press. Recent reports suggest Tom is close to signing up for a Top Gun sequel, though no word on when and where production would begin. Tom's 2012 calendar is already packed with projects, and he'll likely have to hit the road prior to June's Rock of Ages and the holiday release of One Shot.

This year, though, it seems some city fun is in store for Suri. Suri and Katie have been all over the US in recent weeks. They logged some time at their West Coast home base, then visited with Tom Cruise on the Louisiana set of Oblivion. Suri's been a jet-setter since her birth in 2006, and hopefully today she's able to visit some of her favorite Big Apple kid-friendly hot spots like Chelsea Piers, Serendipity, and Alice's Tea Cup.

Katie and Suri have been on the go lately, and visited Tom on location earlier this month. Tom Cruise took a break from filming Oblivion to check out Baton Rouge with family last weekend. He had wife Katie Holmes, son Connor, daughter Suri, and Katie's parents Kathleen and Martin by his side for the afternoon of sightseeing, which included a ride on a streetcar. Suri was dressed up in a pink look and a hat while Katie was on trend in printed pants. Katie changed into stripes that evening, though, as the whole group stepped out for dinner. The fun continued on Sunday, when Katie, Kathleen, Martin, and Suri went shopping at J.Crew. Katie has since returned to LA, where she welcomed Spring in white jeans on a visit to a fabric store.

Tom may be busy with his latest big-screen project, but he'll soon turn his attention to promoting Rock of Ages. He belts out a Bon Jovi song in the Rock of Ages trailer, which comes ahead of the movie's June release.
