Michelle Williams Brings Spike to Synecdoche, New York

Michelle Williams smiled big at a screening of her new movie Synecdoche, New York in, where else, NYC last night. The screenwriter, director, producer for the film Charlie Kaufman posed next to his stars Michelle and Catherine Keener. Afterward, the group was off to the after party where Michelle and Spike Jonze held hands and cuddled close while chatting with friends, even sneaking a few kisses on their way out. Kaufman's directional debut looks like a visually stunning and thought provoking masterpiece - just the kind of film where Michelle Williams will shine. With another heart wrenching movie coming soon, it looks like we have some amazing performances on the way from Michelle, which will be something to savor if she really takes a deserved break from work.

Michelle Hits Another Red Carpet Before Jetting Out of Cannes

Yesterday Michelle Williams lit up the red carpet at the premiere of Adoration at Cannes and today she was promoting her own film, Synecdoche, New York with co-stars Catherine Keener and Philip Seymour Hoffman by her side. (Buzz has a couple of movie clips here) Michelle went casual for the photocall before slipping into another gown for the big premiere. It's great to see her out at events again, and while she's only in town for a quick two days, she's looking to make a few memories. She said, "[It's] something you can look back on at the end of your life and think, 'That was a cool thing I did when I was 27.'" Considering how much film festival fun the celebrities have been having, we can't argue with Michelle on that one.

Michelle and Penelope Get Award Ready at Gotham Awards

Movie award season kicked off last night in NYC with the 2008 Gotham Awards. We should get used to seeing some of these winners names and some of these familiar faces when the New Year comes along and Award Season really gets rolling, but for now the group took the red carpet to start honoring each other. While Frozen River took home the top honors, Michelle Williams and Penelope Cruz both had reasons to smile. Rachel Weisz came out to support her husband's movie The Wrestler. Michelle's Synecdoche, New York won the Robert Altman Award for best director, casting and ensemble while Vicky Cristina Barcelona also won an award for best ensemble cast. Matilda and Spike Help Michelle Weather the Winter

Michelle Williams sipped a coffee while Matilda munched on a snack as the mother daughter duo took a walk in chilly Brooklyn yesterday. The ladies have Winter ahead of them, but there are plenty of sunny things to look forward to in 2009. Michelle scored a lead actress nomination for an Independent Spirit Award, with Wendy and Lucy and her film Synecdoche, New York earned an ensemble cast nod as well. Last night Michelle got her award season started at the Gotham Awards in NYC, and also made time for her man Spike. Hopefully with a hard year behind her, Michelle can spend the rest of 2008 enjoying Spike and Matilda and preparing for good things to come.

Michelle Opens Up About Heath

Michelle Williams has slowly been stepping back into the spotlight in the past few months, promoting her latest movies Synecdoche, New York and Wendy and Lucy, and she recently talked to Newsweek to help promote her films. The interview is both raw and sincere, with Michelle talking about living under a microscope and how she's handling Heath Ledger's tragic passing. Here's more:

On having her personal life so exposed: "It's such a funny line to walk as an actor," Williams says. "There's some great quote I think Dustin Hoffman gave when he was doing 'The Graduate': 'The more you know about me, the harder my job is'."
On Dawson's Creek: "When I was on 'Dawson's Creek,' I wanted to make work that meant something to people, serious work that made people less alone in the world. And I was thinking about that this morning in the shower-'Dawson's Creek' meant something to people."
On how she's handling Heath's death: "It's so sad. I guess it's always changing. What else can I say? I just wake up each day in a slightly different place-grief is like a moving river, so that's what I mean by 'it's always changing'. It's a strange thing to say because I'm at heart an optimistic person, but I would say in some ways it just gets worse. It's just that the more time that passes, the more you miss someone. In some ways it gets worse. That's what I would say."

The interview must have been a difficult one for Michelle, but the strength and wisdom she's shown over the past year really shine through. Having Matilda and Spike Jonze in her life are hopefully helping Michelle find happiness in both her personal life and her career.

Matilda Ledger Doesn't Need a Holiday to Be a Princess

Michelle Williams looked beautiful and smitten with Spike Jonze at a screening of Synecdoche, New York Wednesday night, but yesterday it was Matilda's turn to get all dressed up. She showed off one her finest princess dresses with her kid-friendly Crocs for a stroll around the neighborhood. Miss Matilda obviously knows the importance of a good costume, so hopefully she's got something special to wear for trick-or-treating around Brooklyn this Halloween.

Michelle and Matilda Spring Into Summer

Michelle Williams is back in NYC after her whirlwind trip to Cannes and already returned to her favorite routine of walks with Matilda. The duo donned their Summer-y outfits for a trip to the Brooklyn Academy of Music with a guy pal, which left Matilda so tuckered out that she napped all the way home. Michelle has lots of new movies heading our way, from Synecdoche, New York, and Adoration to Wendy and Lucy, a road movie about a girl and her dog. She's already getting great reviews for her work in the film, so we're excited for much more Michelle up on the big screen.

Michelle Williams has understandably taken some time off from red carpet events, but last night she was back with a vengeance. She looked happy and gorgeous at the premiere of Adoration in Cannes, a film that stars Scott Speedman and Rachel Blanchard. Michelle herself isn't in the movie, but maybe she just wanted to get a little warm up before the premiere of her Synecdoche, New York at the festival tonight.
