Taylor To Go on Tour

Taylor Hicks has released his self-titled debut album and he's now going on tour. He kicks off his first show in February in Jacksonville, Florida and while he told MTV that he hopes it will last 10 years, the dates are only scheduled through April 27th in Kansas City. We wonder if he will make any guest appearances on AI this season.

Taylor Says He Didn't Mean to Diss Idol

Taylor Hicks and Vanessa Minnillo had fun together joking around when he stopped by TRL this week to promote his self-titled debut album. Taylor's come a long way in the past year and don't think he doesn't know it. Still, he got a lot of slack back in October when he spoke negatively of American Idol, saying he thought it was fizzling out. He also said that he never watched the show before and only went on the show to further his career. Here's more:

"I want to take that opportunity and exposure: you either come to see me, buy my album or you don't," the Alabama native said. "I'm not trying to meet expectations. If you can say you're a working musician, then you're doing something good."

Responding to cries that he was biting the hand that fed him so heartily, Hicks [attempted to explain himself on LA's KIIS FM recently], saying, "I'm giving up my crown soon. That's what I meant. I'm just now learning about how the media can turn things around.

"I'm very grateful to that show, and we're like one big family. It was taken completely out of context. I will be watching next season on my tour bus."

Taylor's Soul Sounds Coming Soon

Taylor put on quite a show on GMA this week at The Hard Rock in Times Square. But doesn't he always? He sings, he dances, he plays the tambourine. He is his own one man band. Recently we posted a sneak peek to his music from his debut album that comes out on December 12th. Now he's revealing more about his music. Here's more:

Hicks, 30, will sing his versions of the Smokey Robinson classic "Ain't That Peculiar," originally performed by Gaye; "Wherever I Lay My Hat," written by Marvin Gaye, and "Dream Myself Awake," by Rob Thomas. Also included is "The Right Place," written by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance for Ray Charles shortly before his death.

The songs "Soul Thing" and "The Deal" were both written by Hicks and released on his second independent album, Under the Radar, before he auditioned for the FOX talent hunt.

[He says,] "It's my take on modern soul music. My album takes pieces of what I learned from Ray (Charles) and from what I hear in today's music. I like some John Legend, Ambulance LTD. I like some of the modern beats of Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake. I like some John Legend. My musical sensibility goes way beyond the two minutes of Idol."

Who knew he was a fan of JT and Christina? That would be a fun collaboration. Although Taylor looks like he's doing just fine on his own. We can't wait to hear more of Taylor next week. For more pics of the performance just read more
