Partner Yoga Pose: The Fountain

Many of the Partner Yoga poses I've posted recently focus on opening up the hamstrings and hips, so let's try one that increases flexibility in your spine. This pose called The Fountain will also challenge your ability to trust your partner.

Music: "Silence" by Delerium

I know this pose doesn't look like much, but once you give it a try, your back will be loving it. To see a detailed description of how to get into this pose with a partner,

Both partners stand facing one another, about five inches apart.
Hold each other's hands securely and at the same time, both partners lean all their weight back. Once it feels comfortable, both partners look back, bring their head between their shoulder blades and arch back.
Stay like this for five or more breaths and at the same time, both partners lift their torsos and come to stand up.

Follow this back bending pose with a relaxing Double Child's Pose.

The Fountain Premiere

Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz came out to celebrate The Fountain's NY premiere, and also the first film of Darren Aronofsky's in six years! You probably remember the last one was Requiem for a Dream. This time around he has written a very ambitious tale based on his own graphic novel. The story spans over 1,000 years and both Hugh and Rachel get to play multiple characters. Sounds pretty interesting. The film opens this holiday weekend.

Fragrance commercials have long been the preserve of creative madness, and the latest (and certainly one of the most frenetic) entry to the bunch is this new spot. It's for Viktor & Rolf's Enchanted Fountain, which is basically a huge tank full of Flowerbomb that lets you refill your flacon in a department store.

I love V&R's sense of whimsy, and they're masters of promotion; they even created a travel kit for KLM that looks just like one of their dapper little bow ties and contains a branded toothbrush, lip balm, face cream, and other travel treats. For dogs, daily walks relieve stiffness and limber up arthritic joints, but be prepared to turn for home when he exhibits signs of fatigue. Keep his reflexes sharp with a game of fetch or catch-the-laser-pointer, but tailor sessions to his mobility and energy limits.

For booking air travel, start yesterday. This year is going to be tough for snagging the choice Christmas flights. With Christmas falling on a Sunday, there's already a scramble for Friday-to-Monday (or Tuesday) trips. Start looking and booking now.
Be as flexible as you can. It's hard during the holidays to be flexible, but if you can depart on Thursday, for example, instead of Friday, you can save $100 per ticket in some markets.
When booking flights with connections, be mindful of the connecting city. Winter weather in popular connecting cities like Chicago or Minneapolis can throw a big wrench in your plans. Though a nonstop flight might cost more, it could be worth it if the only connection options are dicey delay-prone cities.
Don't forget to check nearby airports. Although it can be a hassle to drive an extra 50 or 100 miles to a more distant airport, it can be worth checking. For a family, saving $50 per ticket will more than make up for the extra gas.
Check in at home. Most airlines now allow you to check in via computer or smartphone as well as print your boarding pass. If you don't need to check bags, that means you can head straight for the security screening line.

Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) returns for another adventure at sea in the fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. This time around, Jack is dragged aboard Blackbeard's ship by his former flame, Angelica (Penelope Cruz), and forced to set out with the crew on a quest for the fountain of youth. Despite the onscreen chemistry between Depp and Cruz, the movie drags on with too many action scenes. DVD extras include a blooper reel and audio commentary by director Rob Marshall.

Bad Teacher

Cameron Diaz heads to the classroom as Elizabeth, a foul-mouthed middle school teacher whose main concern is saving up enough money to get a boob job, so that she can lure a new sugar daddy. She eventually sets her eyes on fellow teacher Scott (Justin Timberlake), overlooking the advances of a gym teacher played by Jason Segel. While it's refreshing to see Diaz take on a bad-girl role, the movie's plot is weak and the film is ultimately forgettable. The extras on the DVD include two featurettes and an interactive yearbook.
