Reese Joins Country's Biggest Stars and Taylor Makes History at CMA Awards in Nashville

Reese Witherspoon was pretty in pink as she stepped on stage to present at last night's CMA Awards in Nashville. The movie star was in the company of country music's biggest names, which of course include Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood. For the red carpet Taylor Swift wore a strapless J. Mendel, Carrie Underwood was in Reem Acra, and Ginnifer Goodwin was in Prabal Gurung. Taylor performed her new love song "Ours" during the show, and she also took home the biggest honor of the evening, Entertainer of the Year. Taylor also won that award in 2009, making her the second woman to earn it twice. Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley played cohosts for the third year in a row and once again showed off their funny chemistry on stage.

Reese wasn't the only Oscar-winning actress in the house, since Nicole Kidman was there on the arm of her husband Keith Urban. Faith Hill hit the red carpet in a stunning white Chado Ralph Rucci gown with Tim McGraw by her side. Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Carrie Underwood, and J Lo Celebrate a New American Idol Winner Live

Millions of fans tuned in last night for American Idol's two-hour, star-studded season finale. Ryan Seacrest was decked out in a tux to take in the powerful performances, later announcing 17-year-old Scotty McCreery as this year's champion - do you agree with the season 10 American Idol winner? The top 13 contestants returned to sing and dance throughout the show, as did Beyoncé Knowles, Lady Gaga, and even Idol judge Steven Tyler. Carrie Underwood arrived in a Lorena Sarbu dress then joined finalist Lauren Alaina for a duet of "Before He Cheats," and Scotty teamed up with country legend Tim McGraw on "Live Like You Were Dying." Beyonce took the stage twice, first doing a medley of her own hits like "Crazy in Love" with contestants and then a solo of her new single "One Plus One." Marc Anthony got the crowd on their feet with a Latin beat as Jennifer Lopez shook it in a hot fringed costume. Lady Gaga, U2, Tony Bennett, Jack Black, and Gladys Knight also joined in the fun before Scotty celebrated his accomplishment by belting out his first original track, "I Love You This Big."

Tim McGraw on Drunk Texting

"I only learned how to text because back when I was drinking, I would get in trouble when I would call my wife and she would find out I was drinking. And then I started slurring my texts and I figured hell, I gotta quit drinking. Thank God nobody knew anything about Skype back then - I would've never stayed out of trouble!"

- Tim McGraw says his inability to text straight, along with his wife's disapproval, got him to stop drinking. Drunk dialing or texting is an embarrassing yet efficient wake-up call.

Country Strong: A Crying Shame

To me, a title like Country Strong suggests resilience and perseverance. But if you're expecting an uplifting comeback tale from Gwyneth Paltrow's latest film, let me set you straight right now. The movie is a downer, and an overwrought one at that.

Paltrow stars as Kelly Canter, a country star who leaves rehab to embark on her new tour. Her exit from treatment is premature, but with her husband/manager James (Tim McGraw) nipping at her heels to get back on the road, she risks her rehabilitation for the sake of her fans (and ticket sales). As Kelly tries to suck it up and stay sober, she flounders to the point of perpetual emotional meltdown. It gets tiring to watch, but the film does have its merits. To find out what those are, just

read more. Joining Kelly on tour is Beau Hutton (Garrett Hedlund) and Chiles Stanton (Leighton Meester). Beau is a talented singer whom Kelly romances in rehab (he works there whenever he's not crooning at honky tonk bars), while Chiles is the latest "Country Barbie" with cute features but not much substance at first glance. Chiles only brings out Kelly's insecurity over her career and her marriage, and Kelly can't help but feel washed up next to young Chiles. With her ego in jeopardy, she falls off the wagon almost instantly, and the tears set in - and they don't let up. Somewhere around her 12th sobbing spell I had had enough. None of the actors are to blame for the film's shortcomings. Though Meester's accent seems questionable at first, the entire cast does a nice job, with Hedlund standing out most of all. Hedlund makes Beau seem rough around the edges and romantic at the same time (just wait until you see him generate heat with Meester), which is at least more dimension than what we see from the rest of the characters. As the film progresses, Kelly just seems like more of a sad head case, while James is nothing but a hardened businessman. Pardon the music pun, but they feel like one-note characters. It's really the film's music that deserves the most credit. Country isn't my usual go-to genre, but I got lost in many of the songs. It's just a shame that the tunes (and the cast's impressive voices) often get overshadowed by the messy storyline. On the bright side, at least if the movie bombs, the actors could always focus on their music careers instead.

Gwyneth Paltrow stepped out in a daring white Pucci dress for the premiere of Country Strong in LA last night. The InStyle cover girl was joined by her costars Leighton Meester, who wore a pink Christian Dior mini, Garrett Hedlund, and Tim McGraw, who had wife Faith Hill by his side. Tim and Faith also supported Gwyneth at her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony earlier this week. The musical movie was nominated for a Best Song Golden Globe, after Gwyneth showed off her singing voice at the CMAs and on Glee, and we'll get to see her take the stage on the big screen when the film hits theaters in limited release Dec. 22 and more theaters on Jan. 7. Gwyneth Paltrow Shines Accepting Her Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Gwyneth Paltrow broke out her Winter white this afternoon to unveil her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in LA. Unlike recent honoree Reese Witherspoon, Gwyneth didn't bring her kids, Apple and Moses, out for the event. Instead, the Country Strong star posed with costar Tim McGraw, pal Faith Hill, and a handful of other girlfriends. Gwyneth is out on the West Coast doing a press push for her new movie, which opens on Jan. 7, and spent the weekend at the junket with Tim, Leighton Meester, and Garrett Hedlund. Leighton managed to steal the headlines by announcing her intentions to leave Gossip Girl in 2012, but Gwyneth is renewing her commitment to the small screen. She just confirmed that she'll return to Glee in January but hopefully will avoid fueling any more drama with the Lohans.

Taylor Swift Named Songwriter of the Year in a Sexy LBD

Taylor Swift became the youngest winner ever of Songwriter of the Year at last night's BMI Awards in Nashville. Taylor looked great in her Z Spoke by Zac Posen dress and got choked up on stage talking about a friend who recently passed away. She also took home Song of the Year for "You Belong With Me" making it quite the week for Taylor and that's before tonight's big CMAs where she's up for best Female Vocalist. Taylor just racked up even more nods with two People's Choice nominations, though she can't celebrate immediately with Jake Gyllenhaal who is off dodging questions about their relationship in London. Taylor will reportedly sing "Back to December" during this evening's show and Gwyneth Paltrow will perform her country single for the first time - does that encourage you to tune in? Faith Hill and Tim McGraw were also out yesterday after joining Gwyneth and Leighton Meester for Monday's Tennessee premiere of Country Strong. The whole group will be back together in a few short hours to celebrate what's touted as the genre's biggest event.
