Jim's Thoughts Give Him Metallic Shoes and That's Okay

I love Jim Carrey, I really do. I love the light Jim Carrey (even though I know he's dark on the inside) and I love the dark Jim Carrey (even though I know he loves potty humor) and I think I maybe love new, adult, hinting at stable Jim Carrey best of all. In preparation for his upcoming movie, The Number 23, Jim has been on quite the press junket and I've been loving every well-coifed minute of it. His most recent interview is no exception. Here are some highlights:

On Fame: "Everyone gets to be the big joke for a year. That's this business," he says. "Last year it was Tom Cruise. I could be the next Kathie Lee Gifford. But you have to say to yourself, 'Wait a minute, dude, that's not you.'"
On his plans to write a children's book and a self help book: "It will be more representative of who I am than anything I've ever done," he says. "I feel like I know something. These thoughts make me feel like I'm wearing gold shoes."..."It's called Cynthia's New Friend. It's about how we hate change. We hate people to change because we're afraid they'll fly away."
On why his upcoming project with Cameron Diaz failed: "I just can't put software out. I can't. I'll have a physical reaction," says Carrey. "I'll be three weeks away from a project, and the universe will take it away from me. That's what happened with Used Guys. My soul didn't want to be there."

I love that Jim seems to understand the fickle nature of the public (and how that affected his friend Tom) while still maintaining his quirkiness (as if he has a choice). What can I say, I'm a sucker for the Carrey. Samsonite? I was way off.

Ok, so we admit this may be the slightest bit cheesy, but TIME Magazine has named you and me and all of us that spend our days, nights and afternoons creating and sharing content online as Person of the Year. In the spirit of cheesiness, I would just like to say that the community that all of you have built here on PopSugar epitomizes what TIME Magazine has so eloquently described in its upcoming Person of the Year issue. We thank you for making this community what it is today and for allowing me to introduce so many additions to the Sugar Network. Hearing your feedback in comments, blog posts and polls makes it so much fun to report on all of my favorite gossip every day. Here's more:

Car companies are running open design contests. Reuters is carrying blog postings alongside its regular news feed. Microsoft is working overtime to fend off user-created Linux. We're looking at an explosion of productivity and innovation, and it's just getting started, as millions of minds that would otherwise have drowned in obscurity get backhauled into the global intellectual economy.

Who are these people? Seriously, who actually sits down after a long day at work and says, I'm not going to watch Lost tonight. I'm going to turn on my computer and make a movie starring my pet iguana? I'm going to mash up 50 Cent's vocals with Queen's instrumentals? I'm going to blog about my state of mind or the state of the nation or the steak-frites at the new bistro down the street? Who has that time and that energy and that passion?

The answer is, you do. And for seizing the reins of the global media, for founding and framing the new digital democracy, for working for nothing and beating the pros at their own game, TIME's Person of the Year for 2006 is you.

The Future Looks Bright For College-Bound Leighton Meester

Leighton Meester is a splash of color in this weekend's New York Times Magazine. In addition to modeling a range of kaleidoscopic outfits, Leighton sits down for a special Q&A ahead of the spread's appearance in this Sunday's issue. She opens up about what's in store on Gossip Girl (spoiler alert!), her next career moves, and rumors about her family. Here's more:

On doing movies: "Well, first I'm going on a much-deserved vacation. Then I'm starting work on a comedy called Date Night with Steve Carell and Tina Fey. I play the babysitter and they go out for a date one night and everything goes awry. After that I'm starring in this crazy movie called The Roommate, which is directed by Christian Christiansen and is sort of a re-telling of Single White Female. I'm the emotionally detached narcissist, but it's early days and I still don’t know who’s playing the psycho opposite me."
On the rumors that she was born while her parents were in jail: "This is the type of thing that you can't be too sensitive about - it's not like I did anything that's worth talking about. I love my parents very much, but people either continue or break the patterns of what their life should be and I just want to completely break whatever patterns would lead me to the same life choices that they made."

On what happens to Blair next season: "It's yet to be decided, but I'm definitely going to college - to NYU - and not wearing any more school uniforms. Thank god we're not pretending we all get held back and just continue with high school like all those other high school shows. I guess I'll wear magnificent clothes every day that don't have anything to do with school."

Leighton's schedule is going to be jam-packed now that she also has a new single and an upcoming album to promote, so hopefully she makes the most of her upcoming getaway.

Jennifer Aniston Still Has Fond Feelings For Friends

Last week Jennifer Aniston got sexy for Vogue, but this week we just get a playful head shot for her New York Times Magazine cover. In the article Jen takes a little break from talking about Marley & Me and her personal life, and instead opens up about her other upcoming project and reflects on Friends. Here are highlights:

On her upcoming movie: "I wish it was She's Just Not That Into You! Unfortunately, it's He's Just Not That Into You. The other would be more empowering."
On watching reruns of Friends: "There are times I don’t even remember that particular show. This is horrible to say, but there are times when I laugh my rear end off. And I get in debates with people who are over and say, 'Friends' is not my thing.' Excuse you!"
On whether or not Friends would be a hit show today: "Hard to tell - that was a different time," Aniston says. "Now TV has too much to do with celebrity. We have reality television, where people try to become celebrities...."

Jen also revealed that she was nervous she'd never get any movie roles after being on a hit sitcom for so long, but with all her success it sounds like she's gone above and beyond her expectations.

The problem is, if they think you’re attractive, you’re either stupid or a whore or a dumb whore. The instinct among girls is to attack the jugular. If I had been a typical starlet and said all the right things, I wouldn’t have escalated to this level." People magazine came out with its annual issue of the hottest guys in Hollywood, and leading the pack is this year's Sexiest Man Alive - Johnny Depp! He spent last night toasting his great friend Tim Burton at a MoMA benefit, but today all eyes are on Johnny due to his latest accolade. This marks the second time Johnny takes home the title, though he shares the distinction with a few other guys. Ryan Reynolds also earned praise from the publication, as did Robert Pattinson, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Bradley Cooper - click here to see the full list of winners.
