What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday

All of the new DVD releases hit stores (and Netflix) on Tuesdays. So each week in What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday, I sort through the best of the batch and tell you what to add to your queue. In addition to my selections below you can also take home the fourth season of Entourage, as well as season five of One Tree Hill (you know, the one where they leap ahead in time and everyone owns a business or is a famous writer or something). Also, Morgan Spurlock's documentary Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden? is out on DVD along with another great indie film, Son of Rambow.

What Happens in Vegas
This comedy starring Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz didn't do so hot with critics when it first came out, but I found myself charmed by it, despite how staggeringly absurd it is at times.

Two opposites (Cameron Diaz, Ashton Kutcher) are forced to live together in matrimony so they can collect a large sum of money they accidentally won together in Las Vegas. Not only do the leads have a surprising amount of chemistry (well, I didn't expect any,
so. . .) but two supporting actors, the droll Lake Bell and The Daily Show's Rob Corddry, anchor the ridiculous moments with superb comic timing. All in all, it's a decent choice for your at-home enjoyment.

Special features include commentary from the director and a featurette titled "Sitting Down With Cameron and Ashton."

read more. Heroes: Season Two It's no secret that season two of NBC's Heroes isn't my favorite, due mostly to its slow pacing, cluttered plots, and overabundance of random new superheroes. But as we round the corner toward the long-awaited premiere of season three, you might just find yourself needing a little refresher (also, this season ended ages ago). So here it is, in all its perplexing, sometimes frustrating glory: season two! I live for the special features that come with my favorite TV-on-DVD selections, and this one is no different. There's an alternate ending to the season (cool!), followed by an "inside the alternate ending" feature (even cooler!) titled "What If Peter Didn't Catch the Vial?," a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the third season premiere episode (yes!) and of course audio commentaries with cast and crew. Can you tell I'm excited? Redbelt I had to go see this film when I attended the Tribeca Film Festival this year because it boasts the insane combination of one of my favorite actors ever (Chiwetel Ejiofor) with one of my favorite actresses (Emily Mortimer) and a writer/director who I think of as a visionary (David Mamet). And for the most part, I was not disappointed. In Redbelt, Ejiofor plays the powerful and controlled mixed-martial arts instructor Mike Terry who vows to stay far away from the competitive circuit. But when a series of coincidences occur and Terry finds himself in financial peril, he returns to the ring for one last time. Alice Braga (I Am Legend) beautifully plays Terry's wife, Sondra, and Mortimer plays an anxious stranger who learns important lessons of her own from Terry's MMA instruction. I had a bit of a love/hate relationship with this movie, which is to say, I loved it - up until the end, when I kinda hated it. I still think it's a worthwhile rental, especially for any Mamet fan.

Ashton and Cameron Hit the Red Carpet With Their Fans

Ashton Kutcher had the company of not one but two gorgeous ladies to walk him down the red carpet at the premiere of What Happens in Vegas in Tokyo today. Both his wife Demi and his costar Cameron looked fabulous, but Miss Diaz really stood out in her white dress as she posed with her fans. Even if she wasn't on the arm of her own man Paul Sculfor, Cameron and her bright smile always shine on their own.

What Happens in Vegas Stays in Japan

What Happens in Vegas is out on DVD at the end of the month in the states, but Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher jetted to Tokyo to do a press conference for their romantic comedy today. Both stars cleaned up nicely, with Ashton polished in his button-down and Cameron glowing in her little strapless number. In fact, Cam looks even more radiant than usual - maybe thanks in part to that hot model boyfriend? Cameron had to miss out on the first round of overseas promotion for the movie, but we always welcome a chance to see her endless enviable cocktail dress and hot shoes collections.

Box Office: Indiana Whips the Competition

Traditionally, Memorial Day weekend is very kind to Summer blockbusters, and this year was no exception for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. According to Variety, the return of the Steven Spielberg franchise was his biggest movie opening ever, hauling in an estimated $126 million over the four-day holiday.

While these results are a career high for Spielberg, the film itself did not break any box office records related to this holiday weekend or any other long weekend openings.

Disney's The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian dropped to second place followed by Iron Man. The fourth spot went to What Happens in Vegas, which continues to perform well, followed by Made of Honor at No. 5 and Baby Mama at No. 6.

John Cusack's War Inc. - also starring Hillary Duff - opened in limited release and did not make the top 10.

Picture Perfect Tech: Cell Phones From What Happens in Vegas

I guess you could say I've been on a bit of a movie kick lately, seeing Iron Man and all its tech treats two short weeks ago and then back to the theaters this past weekend for some hilarious What Happens in Vegas action.

This movie features Cameron Diaz who plays Joy, a stockbroker from Manhattan, and the leading man Jack, played by Ashton Kutcher. Both meet in Vegas for a wild night out on the town and find themselves dealing with a lot more than they bargained for once the night is over. For those who haven't seen it, I won't go into great detail and spoil it for you . . . but I absolutely must reveal some of the tech treats this geek had her eye on throughout the movie!

Samsung had some serious pull in this film, hooking up Cameron with a BlackJack II smartphone. This sleek black cell is certainly an all-in-one phone, boasting TeleNav GPS, a camera, Windows Mobile 6, Bluetooth, and a QWERTY keyboard with a front jog wheel (similar to the iPod wheel).

Is there anything hotter than a little Diane von Furstenberg hot-pink mini dress? If you've got the gams and the guts to pull one off, I say do it! What Happens in Vegas may be a fictional story, but when it comes to real life and fashion I say live it up. Cameron Diaz Casually Wants It All

Cameron Diaz has had a busy month promoting What Happens in Vegas, but this California girl looks perfectly relaxed in the June issue of InStyle. In the magazine she talks about her style, what she's looking for in a man and in a bittersweet moment, the love of her parents especially her father. Here are some highlights:

On being sexy: "You have to really enjoy [being sexy]. Not fake anything. Sexy is being in the moment, whether that means being coy or coming on hard. Faking is always lame and it never comes across the way you want it to."
On her love life: "I'm a woman. Of course I'm dating! [..] I trust my judgment. I'm not going to bring some idiot into my world, and if I'm not sure about him, I'm cautious. My list is all about balance. You can have smart but not funny. You can have funny but not very smart. You can have intellectual but not social. But ...I want it all! I love big brains. I love to eat. I love to be outdoors. I love to have conversations! I love to make love. I like live arrrrgh! I don’t do anything half-assed, and I want somebody who can keep up with all that. And I want someone who can show me something, you know?”"

On her style: "I don't like overdone or being too put-together. I like casual chic. Eclectic style. I want to feel like I can go anywhere, whatever I'm wearing. On her parents [interview prior to her father's death]: "They just celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary. They're just really good, cool people. I know I'll never be in a situation where I can't get to somebody for support. [My father] said he'd always back me up if I got in trouble. He is a good man, stand up and loyal."

Cameron maintains a casual-cool, laid-back California girl image even during trying times. Clearly her loving and supportive family played a big role in the woman she has become today and they should be very proud of the superstar actress who is trying to save the world we live in while also having fun.

Narnia's Prince Gallops Away With the Box Office

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian handily won the top stop at the box office over the weekend, though it failed to bring in as much as the first Narnia film did in 2005.

In the "yikes" department, Speed Racer (already struggling at the box office) dropped from third place to fourth, only earning an estimated $7.6 million this weekend. Iron Man continued to set records, holding strong at second place while What Happens in Vegas took third. In fact, Iron Man was the first film to earn over $200 million at the domestic box office this year, according to Variety. Baby Mama closed out the top five.
