Major Hunger Games Casting Update: Woody Harrelson Is Haymitch!

We've been soaking up every drop of casting news from the much-anticipated adaptation of Suzanne Collins's best-selling novel, so forgive our excitement about this latest tidbit: Woody Harrelson will play Haymitch in The Hunger Games. Haymitch Abernathy is a former Hunger Games victor who has turned into a surly drunk with time (but still hasn't lost his strategy or survival skills). He's forced to coach Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) through the games, as all three are from the same district in futuristic Panem. I couldn't be more on board with this casting decision; Harrelson should have no trouble playing both the brusque, drunk side of Haymitch as well as the softer layer underneath. Earlier rumors had John C. Reilly in the role, but this is a better fit. Now all we need is our Cinna!

Justin Timberlake and Woody Harrelson Enjoy Some Friendly Competition

Justin Timberlake and Woody Harrelson filmed Friends With Benefits by the water in NYC yesterday, and today's shoot brought them together on a basketball court. JT got back to work after spending his weekend off riding bikes with Jessica Biel, but then she was off to Europe to promote The A-Team. They're used to being long distance, and his schedule isn't slowing down anytime soon with a new job prospect, a possible spot at the American Idol judges' table, and his upcoming movie The Social Network.

George Clooney and Woody Harrelson Match For Their Lake Como Motorcycle Man Date

George Clooney gave Woody Harrelson a two-wheeled tour of Lake Como yesterday. It's Woody's second overseas adventure in the past few weeks after recently competing in the UNICEF fundraiser Soccer Aid in the UK. George frequently plays gracious host to his celebrity friends, including an ex who was spotted out on the lake with his current girlfriend, Elisabetta Canalis, this week. It's coming up on a year anniversary for Elisabetta, who took her first spins with Clooney last Summer. George wrapped up reshoots of The American in time to celebrate the USA's Independence Day with his bikini-loving lady and whichever lucky buddies scored the holiday invite like Woody.

George Joins On- and Offscreen Ladies For a Winning Night

George Clooney clasped hands with Elisabetta Canalis at yet another award show in NYC last night, this time for the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures at Cipriani. George walked away with Best Actor for Up in the Air, which he shared with Morgan Freeman for Invictus. Clooney's film also won Best Picture and adorable Anna Kendrick got a statue for Best Supporting Actress - yay! Both of George's leading ladies in the movie were fantastic and hit the red carpet last night, though once again it looked like he only had eyes for his date, who is also making her name as a lingerie model. George also kept us laughing this week with his onstage Mariah Carey crack as he warms up for some possible upcoming acceptance speeches - don't forget to fill out the Golden Globes ballot!

2012: Apocalyptic Good Times

In terms of end-of-the-world movies, 2012 packs it all - a love story, teary family moments, action-packed adventure, over-the-top-CGI, and a ton of recycled film cliches - in a two and a half hour package. That's lengthy by today's standards, but I wasn't bored for a minute. This is pure escapist entertainment.

The film opens in 2009 as a scientist in India and his American associate Adrian Helmsley (Chiwetel Ejiofor) discover that the Earth's core is overheating. His forecast: Tectonic plates will shift, thereby causing a worldwide catastrophe that will wipe out the human race.

Dun, dun, dun! (Doesn't take long to pull you in, does it?) To hear my full assessment,

read more. The real action goes down three years later in 2012 when, according to the Mayan calendar, the Earth will reach its end. The entire So-Cal coast starts crumbling, so our hero Jackson Curtis (John Cusack) and his family begin a journey to China where the governments around the world have supposedly assembled spaceships to carry select humans to safety. What? You expected this to be plausible? Of course not, but the film does include tons of cool CGI - volcanos, snow storms, giant tsunamis. It's like every disaster movie you've ever watched combined. (That should come as no surprise seeing as how the director is Roland Emmerich who created The Day After Tomorrow, Independence Day, and Godzilla.) As for the characters, we've seen them all stereotyped in other films before, but they're still enjoyable here. (Even though I admittedly winced over a Russian family complete with a fur coat, tiny dog, and an employee named Sasha.) This is thanks to the actors who play their parts with believability, even when the scenes feel ridiculous. Ejiofor portrays a great bleeding heart swept up in a governmental plan that's looking out for No. 1, and Cusack pulls off his father role without being over-the-top or sappy. Also, watch for Woody Harrelson as a nutty conspiracy theorist living in Yellowstone National Park. 2012 is purely meant to be fun, and it succeeds. There's a constant barrage of cliff-hanger moments that never let up, and though you pretty much know where things are headed, it's easy to get sucked in.

Taylor, Johnny, Megan & Vampires Make Scream Awards Sexy

The Spike Scream Awards took over the Greek Theater in LA on Saturday night, bringing together the biggest names in Horror, Fantasy, Comics and Science Fiction. Vampires were of course some of the biggest winners of the night and the stars of The Vampire Diaries and True Blood were all in attendance. Kate Bosworth presented a statue to Alexander Skarsgard, amid rumors that there's something going on between them. Taylor Lautner was the only Twilight representative and debuted the "Behind the Scenes" New Moon footage, which wasn't much though more may come when the show actually airs. There were rumors that Kristen Stewart would make a cameo since she was back in LA, but fans were still satisfied to see sexy Taylor representing and all the shirtless Wolf Pack in the footage from the upcoming film. Johnny Depp accepted a spike for the incomplete Alice in Wonderland as well as presented an award of immortality to Keith Richards. Megan Fox expressed her gratitude to the Transformers franchise while Stephen Moyer had one of the sweetest moments of the night when he thanked the True Blood producers for being "surprising matchmakers."

On the red carpet, one of the night's winners Isabel Lucas chatted about spending last Halloween with Shia LaBeouf, though she admitted that the holiday isn't huge in her native Australia. She looked great in her Chanel dress and Jimmy Choo shoes even without getting a drop of sleep the night before. Eliza Dushku was sexy posing for the cameras and presenting with Dave Navarro - garnering cheers from her fans the whole time. Justin Long was out to support one of the night's big winners Drag Me to Hell and was friendly as he made his way into the awards. Movie Preview: The Messenger

We've all seen 'em: those heart-breaking, suspenseful scenes in war movies, when the family of a missing soldier anxiously waits by the window for an update. From Army Wives and beyond, our sympathy naturally gravitates to the friends and family as they take in the news, but what about the soldiers who have to issue the depressing notices?

In The Messenger, Woody Harrelson and Ben Foster star as two soldiers responsible for informing families that their loved ones aren't coming back from the war. As the younger of the two, Foster's character finds himself faced with a moral dilemma when he extends some extra sympathy to one of the widows he meets along the way.

It's refreshing to see Harrelson back in serious mode for a change, and the premise brings a different aspect of war into focus as we learn more about the inner workings of the seemingly stoic men in uniform at all those front doors. The film hits theaters on Nov. 13, and to see the trailer, just
