Zachary Quinto Shares His Moving Motivation For Coming Out

Zachary Quinto revealed that he's gay in a recent interview with New York Magazine. The Star Trek and What's Your Number actor, who has also played gay roles, told the magazine that he finds it perplexing that in one year New York has legalized gay marriage, while gay teenagers continue to commit suicide. Getting frank about his sexuality for the first time, Zachary said, "As a gay man I look at that and say there's a hopelessness that surrounds it, but as a human being I look at it and say ‘Why? Where's this disparity coming from, and why can't we as a culture and society dig deeper to examine that?'"

After that conversation, the actor took to his own website to share more about coming out. Last month's suicide of Jamey Rodemeyer, a 14-year-old gay kid who had experienced years of bullying, influenced Zachary's decision. On his site, Zachary wrote that Jamey Rodemeyer's life changed his own, explaining:

when i found out that jamey rodemeyer killed himself - i felt deeply troubled. but when i found out that jamey rodemeyer had made an it gets better video only months before taking his own life - i felt indescribable despair. i also made an it gets better video last year - in the wake of the senseless and tragic gay teen suicides that were sweeping the nation at the time. but in light of jamey's death - it became clear to me in an instant that living a gay life without publicly acknowledging it - is simply not enough to make any significant contribution to the immense work that lies ahead on the road to complete equality."

Zachary said that it is now his intention to live "an authentic life of compassion and integrity and action." Let's hope his brave example helps gay teens like Jamey.

Anna Faris and Chris Evans teamed up for the LA premiere of What's Your Number last night. In-demand Chris has been juggling many roles over the last few weeks. After donning his Captain America suit to finish up shooting The Avengers, he premiered the legal thriller Puncture, which is out in limited release Friday, in NYC last Thursday. His new comedy sees Anna Faris trying to track down all of her ex-boyfriends - check out the What's Your Number trailer. They had the support of costars Zachary Quinto and Blythe Danner for yesterday's festivities, which is out in theaters on Sept. 30.

Real-life events are often the best material for movies, and the film Margin Call has seized the 2008 collapse of Wall Street. The fallout was, and still is, devastating, but the trailer makes it look unabashedly thrilling. After an investment banker (Stanley Tucci) is laid off from a financial firm, he hands off a flash drive to fellow employee (Zachary Quinto) who realizes that it holds an equation that predicts the fall of their firm (and the whole stock market). When the big wigs at the company learn this info, they do what they can to avoid their own destruction in the wake of the economic collapse - no matter what the moral cost.

If the Wall Street drama isn't enough to spark your interest, the star-studded cast should do the trick. Kevin Spacey, Demi Moore, Penn Badgley, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Irons, and Simon Baker make up the roster. Watch the trailer and let me know what you think when you

Andy Samberg and Zachary Quinto to Play Exes to Anna Faris

Remember when I told you about Anna Faris's upcoming project What's Your Number? with future Captain America Chris Evans? We're getting more details about other members of the movie's ensemble, particularly the men who will be stepping in as her old boyfriends.

Andy Samberg has signed on to play one of Faris's past loves, and Zachary Quinto is also in talks. Since the main character's exes in Karyn Bosnak’s book 20 Times a Lady (on which the film is based) are described as "an inmate, a rehab patient, a dog-obsessed Amway salesman and a Muppeteer", I'm psyched to see both of these guys step into such kooky parts. Can't you just picture Samberg as a Muppeteer?! Hilarious. Also, it'll be nice to watch Quinto's funny side - which we didn't exactly get to see behind those pointy ears in Star Trek. What do you make of Quinto doing comedy? And are you happy to see Samberg on the big screen again?

Zachary Quinto to Raise Eyebrows as Leading Man in Whirligig

It seems I wasn't the only one to think that Zachary Quinto's Spock stole the hot man show in Star Trek last Summer. Quinto is attached to the upcoming indie film Whirligig, playing a guy who becomes friends with the adopted son of the woman he's pursuing.

Not only would this be Quinto's first major role post-Star Trek, but he'd be the leading man in a romantic comedy-drama. I make no attempt to hide how smitten I am with Quinto, and can definitely see the tall, sexy actor take on a role that's less of a sci-fi than Star Trek and Heroes. We only got a teeny smidgen of his romantic side when his Spock wooed Uhura - I'd love to see that extended to a couple hours.

Charlize, Sandra, Bradley Kick Off Award Season in Hollywood

The red carpet was brimming with beautiful stars in LA last night at the Hollywood Awards Gala, which is referred to as the first stop of award season. Charlize Theron was fresh off her trip to SF and looking hot, while Kate Beckinsale was also sexy in black. Diane Kruger held down the angelic side in white, and newlywed Zooey Deschanel stuck with her standard cute look. Hilary Swank posed after her Amelia had a disappointing opening weekend, though she took home the Best Hollywood Actress statue for her work in the film.

Inside the event, Sandra Bullock, Morgan Freeman and Zachary Quinto entertained the crowd from onstage. Julianne Moore had a big night, taking home Best Supporting Actress honors for her work in Tom Ford's directorial debut, A Single Man, and Bradley Cooper won the Hollywood Comedy Award. It was just three short years ago that Lindsay Lohan won the breakout actress award at the show, which finishes up the Hollywood Film Festival - pretty interesting. This year, though, the accolade went to Carey Mulligan for her work in An Education. With the announcement of Ricky Gervais as the host of the Golden Globes, award season is underway and we're starting to get a look at whose names will be gracing the nominees' lists.

David Beckham Is Just One of Many Famous U2 Fans

The U2 concert in Pasadena last night brought out many of Hollywood's biggest names. After a weekend with family, David Beckham attended with friends, while Rande Gerber and Cindy Crawford turned up side-by-side. Paris Hilton came with her boyfriend Doug and sister Nicky, and Ashley Greene left the Gossip Girl gang to watch the show alongside fellow Twilighters Kellan Lutz and Cam Gigandet. Ryan Phillippe had a boys' evening out with BFF Breckin Meyer, as Olivia Wilde chatted with Ginnifer Goodwin. Orlando Bloom tried to go a little incognito as he played with a mask in the VIP lounge before the whole famous gang went to see Bono and the guys do their thing on stage.

Lauren, Selena and Kim Turn Out Stylishly in Hollywood

Many pretty young things were out in LA last night to attend the Hollywood Style Awards. Lauren Conrad took a break from thinking about the LA Candy movie to hit the white carpet in a floral dress, present an award and congratulate Young Stylemaker Brody Jenner. Kim was the lone Kardashian at the event and talked about how she's happy to let her sisters have the spotlight these days, though they're still working together on an upcoming line for Bebe. Hayden Panettiere and Selena Gomez posed in their minis and were just a few of the evening's big winners, but you guys seem split when it comes to deciding who was the best dressed.

Noah Carries His Ball While Zachary Quinto Takes the Bags

I know most dogs are super excited for walk time, and Noah's so into it, he's got his toy, too! Can't forget a ball for impromptu fetch games, after all. This cute Irish Wolfhound/Airedale Terrier mix had a standard-sized yellow tennie tucked in his teeth as this twosome strolled around LA over the weekend.

It's nice to see Zachary Quinto modeling good dog ownership with blue poop bags and a holder, but I wonder if they stopped at a park to play or if Noah hasn't worked on drop it yet. Either way, there are more cute piccys to check out below!
