Ellen DeGeneres announced yesterday that she will be replacing Paula Abdul as the fourth American Idol judge, and this morning she called in to Ryan Seacrest's radio show to chat about her new job. She opened up about why she thinks she's qualified to judge the singers, said she'll be friendly to the contestants, and also expressed her hope that Paula is OK with how everything turned out. It sounds like Ellen's ready to take on Paula's role as the "nice judge," so tell us — are you excited to see Ellen on Idol?

The big news broke last night that Ellen DeGeneres will be replacing Paula Abdul as the fourth judge on American Idol! The talk show host apparently signed a five year contract, but check out what she had to say to Simon Cowell earlier this year about the four-judge system. Ellen is an avid fan of the show, but we'll see whether the Paula fans can learn to love Ellen, too.

American Idol auditions are underway and while we've already seen Victoria Beckham step in as a guest judge in two locations, the producers are looking to fill Paula's shoes with a series of female pop stars. Today Joe Simpson shot down rumors that Jessica was angling for a spot, but it got us thinking about some other ladies we'd like to see in the empty seat. Katy Perry is signed up with promises of more to come but tell us — who would you like to see on American Idol?

David Beckham was on daddy duty carrying Romeo and Cruz on errands in LA while Victoria was in Boston for another round of American Idol auditions on Friday. Posh is temporarily sitting in for Paula, who apparently may be back on AI but is also looking into a possible variety show. Back in LA, David was causing trouble on the soccer field.

Victoria Beckham joined Ryan Seacrest and the rest of the American Idol judges in Boston yesterday for their latest round of auditions. She was also with the gang last week in Denver, though her repeat appearances don't mean she's angling to permanently take over for Paula Abdul. Victoria's rep says she's only a temporary replacement, since Posh is focusing more on her designing career these days.

David Beckham and the LA Galaxy beat the New England Revolution in Foxborough, MA, on Saturday. Becks got into an argument with a player who elbowed him, but he smiled after his team's win. He's also getting pressure from England to come back in December or else he won't qualify for the World Cup.

Victoria Beckham arrived at LAX yesterday amid news that she's set to make an appearance as a guest judge during the next season of American Idol. With Paula Abdul leaving the show, Posh is adding the cameo to her list of special roles — including a possible spot in Sex and the City. We see lots of Victoria Beckham out and about, but it's not as common to see her live and in action.

Paula Abdul arrived at JFK last night ready to talk about how overwhelming it is to leave American Idol and to say Simon Cowell misses her already. The news Paula's leaving the show saddened many of you, and even her fellow judges Ryan Seacrest and Randy Jackson have expressed their shock about her departure. Paula apparently wanted $20 million and, when the Idol execs wouldn't meet her demands, she turned them down via Twitter.
