Jessica's Major Movie Star Ambition Suffers A Set Back

Jessica Simpson looked stunning on her way to dinner at Angelini in LA this weekend, but good looks are not going to guarantee her a stellar movie career. The wannabe-actress got herself in shape to concentrate on her latest flick, but bad news just surfaced regarding her summer release, Blonde Ambition. Word is the release date has been pushed back again. The Gatecrasher reports:

Sources say her manager dad has pushed back the release date twice because the movie is no good.

"First, the release date was set for Aug. 3, and then it was delayed until the last week of August," says an insider. "Papa Joe then intervened and said he wasn't comfortable with the level of competition from other films that month."

Another source says: "Jessica was not very focused on-set and flubbed her lines often. She always had her dog around, was on the phone with [then-] boyfriend John Mayer or was sitting in a warmed-up SUV."

This is not the kind of press Jessica needs when she wants to be seen as an actress and not just a singer. At least she has her fashion lines, new perfume and who knows what else to attach her name to in order to keep herself relevant.

Jess Still Brunette, But Can't Deny Her Blonde Ambition

Jessica looked ridiculous channeling her inner Rainbow Brite in NYC this week. Thankfully she did lose the unnecessary extensions she wore to the Costume Institute Gala Monday night. Jessica is gearing up to promote her movie Blonde Ambition, but she isn't about to get back to her roots just yet. As we know, she thinks the darker color reflects who she is now. We know Jess can't entirely avoid her blonde reputation especially now that we've seen our first look at her upcoming movie with Luke Wilson. After checking out the trailer we're just wondering whether Luke read the script or not. Seriously, what was he thinking?

Jessica Worried About Carrying Blonde Ambition

Even though Jess seems to love her new dark hair, she had to go back to blonde (this time, a wig) to do some reshoots for Blonde Ambition in NY yesterday. Jessica may be feeling the pressure of her first starring role, but luckily she's been studying some comic greats and was even able to memorize all her lines this time around (well, mostly). Here's Jess on the experience:

"There are so many Lucille Ball moments," Simpson said. "Dane Cook taught me how to do that; he used his body language a lot. And the women who do that, like Goldie Hawn or Meg Ryan, do that so well, and it just makes the comedy so much better. Jim Carrey is obviously the best at it; he does all the different faces. But I have so many different faces in this movie that I never knew I had before."
The hardest thing about 'Blonde Ambition' was that I'm carrying the weight of the movie on my shoulders," she said. "I was in every shot, pretty much, and it was very time-consuming. You don't really understand until a week after you're done shooting, and you're like, 'Oh my gosh, I memorized all those lines! Wow!' "

From what we've seen the film is obviously going to be a little goofier than the original Working Girl, which earned Melanie Griffith an Oscar nomination. Now that Jess is winning back her fans with her more laid back personality and new love John Mayer, it will be interesting to see if this movie becomes a hit.
