Angelina Signs on to Lead In Cornwell Suspense Thriller
Despite frequently talking about slowing down her career, Angelina Jolie just signed onto a deal that has the potential to become a major franchise. Jolie will be playing medical examiner Dr. Kay Scarpetta, who is the lead in a hugely popular 16-book series written by Patricia Cornwell.
Sean Penn Talks Politics in the Press Room
Sean Penn passionately spoke about Milk's importance and message onstage and he continued his heartfelt thanks from the press room. He talked about Obama's need to examine his official stance on gay marriage, since the change will come, and says he hopes that the president's current stance is not a "felt one." He also spoke a bit about what it meant to take part in the project, and about his fellow nominee Mickey Rourke:

Britney Gets Into Giving Back Too
Britney Spears examined her slimmed down and toned up body while enjoying her favorite vice outside her house yesterday afternoon. Brit's been hard at work improving her life and last night she was inspired to change the lives of others too. Apparently, while watching Idol Gives Back she was so saddened by the stories of kids dying of Malaria in Africa that she called and donated $25,000 of her own money (with permission from Jamie).
Heath Ledger's Death Was an Accident
We've tried to stay away from all of the rumors and speculation about the events that led to Heath Ledger's sudden and tragic passing two weeks ago, but the results from the the toxicology report came in today and the New York medical examiner has ruled that his death was an accident. A statement was released saying, "Mr. Heath Ledger died as the result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam, and doxylamine.
Denzel & Russell: Happy to Be American Gangsters
One of the last movies I can't wait to see this year, American Gangster, premiered in Hollywood last night. The film's illustrious stars Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington, along with Mel Gibson and producer Brian Grazer, were all out to celebrate the epic in their finest suits. Both Russell and Denzel are no stranger to the Oscar nominations, so it will be interesting to see if these two can live up to their names and reputation together on screen.

At ABC's TCAs Sex and the City creator Darren Star was asked the obvious over and over again. His new show includes Miranda Otto, Frances O'Connor, Bonnie Somerville and Lucy Liu as his new dream foursome in the mid season guilty pleasure, Cashmere Mafia. Yes, the cast has four beautiful women living in NYC but he promises this show is different than that Sex show we all can't stop talking about.
Nicole Tries to Postpone Courtdate, Is Denied
Nicole Richie kept herself very covered up with a pillow being led into LAX with Joel last night. The two were on their way up to Calgary, Canada, where Joel is scheduled to play a show tonight, the only problem is that Nicole is due in court in LA tomorrow morning. The (sigh) pregnant starlet hoped that she would be able to postpone the date by sending her lawyer in to meet with the commissioner today and ask for continuance until August 5.
