Leighton Meester Gives Her Vocal Chords a Night Off
Leighton Meester and boyfriend Sebastian Stan were side by side as they arrived together at a benefit for the NYC Public Library last night. The duo doesn't appear in public together often, but we've see a great deal of them both this season on Gossip Girl. Sebastian's character Carter is off the series for now, so he wasn't on last night's WTF moment-filled episode, though it did feature the usual tech, fashion, and beauty fun.
Lo Puts Reading and Drama on the Record
Lo Bosworth made time for a good cause yesterday, stopping by the LA Public Library in leggings for Jumpstart's Read for the Record Program. For lunch she met up with Kristin Cavallari, who traded in her bikini for jean shorts and laughed big while on the set of The Hills. These two are the only Laguna Beach alumni still left on the MTV reality show, but that doesn't mean there's no drama between them.

The stars of Showtime, the CW, and CBS came together at their TCA party in Pasadena last night. The Huntington Library was bursting with celebrities from all three networks who mixed and mingled at the gorgeous venue. Ashlee Simpson-Wentz looked perfectly petite in her sexy dress as she told us about how well-behaved Bronx is these days.
Jen and Violet Put in Some Study Time
Violet Affleck is shaping up to be one very well-rounded little girl. She and Jen did some calisthenics over at Kidnasium earlier in the week, but on Friday it was all about story time. Violet handled the keys while her mom carried their new selections back to the car.
Rachel McAdams Is Just Your Average Bookworm
Rachel McAdams stepped out in NYC yesterday to pick up a few books from the library and grab some breakfast. Last week she had Josh Lucas by her side as the couple strolled the streets, and it looks like Rachel is planning on staying in the city for a bit. With State of Play taking second place at the box office last weekend, Rachel can enjoy a bit of downtime as she waits to see if her film can rake in the same success in week two.
James Franco Gets Buried in His Books
James Franco was in student mode earlier this week as he tackled his graduate school assignments at Columbia University's library in NYC. He's been hard at work on the set of Howl, but as finals time approaches James needs to focus on his academics. It will be Summer soon, and he will be leaving the city to film Your Highness in Ireland and Date Night with Tina Fey and Steve Carell.
Matt Damon Challenged to Bring That Smile to a Debate
After spending the weekend in Miami with his wife and daughters, Matt Damon was back in his original stomping ground, Boston, yesterday. He was there to speak at the Kennedy Presidential Library about his work in Haiti, though it's some other comments of his that have people talking this week. Not only did Matt call Bond a "repulsive" "sociopath" and more, but after recent political comments Damon has also been offered $10,000 to debate former NYT columnist Bill Kristol about the Iraq war.
Britney Gets Sean and Jayden's Seal of Approval
Britney Spears was in the passenger seat yesterday as she and her mom Lynne drove around the town of Calabasas, where her rumored new $8.9 million mansion is located. She's apparently ready for a more suburban life, and her new digs offer just that with a rose garden, home theatre and library. Lynne wasn't the only Spears along for the trip, though, as Brit twittered that, "I just took my babies to our new home and they loved it!
Josh Hartnett Is a Little Richer and Stage-Ready
Josh Hartnett was looking good all buttoned up out with a friend in London last night. He's been in the UK since the Summer performing Rain Man on stage, but lucky for us he might be returning stateside soon — rumor has it that Josh's acting chops may have landed him a spot on Broadway. Even so, Josh will come home with fond memories of his time in London, even more so thanks to the fact that he won his anti-defamation lawsuit against the paper that wrote about his supposed library tryst.
Gwen and Kingston Introduce Zuma to Their Park Play Dates
Gwen Stefani was beaming with her boys at a birthday party in the park in Silverlake yesterday. Gwen shopped at Toys R Us before lunch in Echo Park and heading over to play ring-around-the-rosy and mingle while Kingston enjoyed the bouncy castle. Gavin spent the weekend in Florida at the Chris Evert Pro-Celebrity Tennis Classic, so unfortunately he missed out on the fun.
