Katie and Tom Have a Memorable DC Weekend

Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and their son Connor were all dressed up to head into the Capital in Washington DC on Memorial Day. The night before, Katie took the stage for a special PBS tribute to American soldiers. The family's weekend of fun also included an exciting trip for Suri and Connor to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. The Cruises are used to exploring various cities by now and they'll have a whole new country to check out when they move to Australia for Katie's movie this Summer.

Katie and Diane Make It a Weekend to Remember

Katie Holmes headed to Washington DC over the weekend to take the stage with Diane Wiest, her All My Sons costar, at a special Memorial Day concert. After a quick run-through on Saturday afternoon in her floral shirt, Katie put on a navy blue top to act out a scene later in the evening. She opened up about her participation in the event, saying, "It's a real gift." Katie also revealed that she's prepping to spend the Summer filming her latest project in Australia, where she'll be joined by Tom and Suri. Her husband and daughter also spent the past few days in the capital and were on hand to cheer her on from the audience.

Jessica Is Thinking About What Daisy Would Have Wanted

Jessica Simpson posed in her LBD at the FFANY Shoes on Sale QVC event in NYC last night. Jessica has filmed PSAs for the line and the event was a fundraiser to raise money as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Jessica is back from her trip to Morocco for The Price of Beauty and she's been keeping her head held high despite what she calls "cruel" stories about her beloved Daisy being found alive. Instead, Jessica is talking about getting through the tough time saying, "I hold her memory very, very close. It was an unfortunate thing what happened. That I don't have her every day... It's a very hard thing to talk about." As for getting another dog, Jess responded, "I haven't really thought about another dog yet, but maybe sometime. [Daisy] would want that."

Nicole Celebrates Memorial Day By Being Obnoxious

Before things got seriously crazy this weekend, two starlets calmly grabbed some coffee in LA. This was before Lindsay DUI-ed and went back to rehab, before Mischa was in and out of the hospital under shady circumstances, but presumably after Nicole Richie sent out an invitation for her Sunday afternoon Memorial Day BBQ, thrown with her friend Masha. Her email invitation somehow leaked and let me just say, the girl knows how to write a completely ridiculous party invite (see the whole thing here). She coaxed people to her friend's place to "glorify this day in your sluttiest tops and your tightest pair of tsubi jeans, even though we have no [bleeping] clue what Memorial Day really means!!" Wow, and that's not the end of it. She added, "There will be a scale at the front door. No girls over 100 pounds allowed in. Start starving yourself now." Here's what her publicist had to say in response:

“This invitation was sent via email to her friends who understand that she was responding in a joking manner to the constant untruths printed about her in the media. Her reference to Memorial Day was in no way meant to offend anyone but was simply an expression of her distaste for the current situation.”

A joke, eh? She's got quite the sense of humor. But really, I sincerely doubt that "mocking the media" was Nicole's original intention, but nice try spinning that one, Nicole's rep! Sarcastic or not, things are clearly teetering on the edge of disaster for the starlet set. I just hope it doesn't take anything scarier than what happened this weekend to snap them out of it.

Mary-Kate Olsen was out and about in LA over the weekend, starting things off with a trip to Maxfield on Sunday. After picking up a few bagfuls of clothes, Mary-Kate headed over to meet pals at the Chateau Marmont. She didn't look too ready for Summer in her flannel and flowy bottoms, but LA life for MK has never been really been about short dresses or tiny tops.
